Demi Chatters for Everett City Council - 2023 Campaign Season Highlight Reel 10/11/2023

Thank you, thank you, thank you to every volunteer and supporter! While the results have not been as we hoped, I am so proud of the campaign we ran, and am incredibly grateful to every single one of you. Campaigns are a lot of hard work, but we still managed to have quite a bit of fun along the way. Together, we centered our most urgent issues in need of public policy solutions. And most importantly, we stood up for working families, and that is ALWAYS the right thing to do.

Last week was International World Peace Day 🌎 observed annually on Sept. 21st. In my role as Vice-Chair of the Snohomish County Human Rights Commission, I had the privilege of emceeing our Resist Hate forum where we heard from community leaders and local experts on how we can act to end violent domestic extremism and bring peace to our region.

And over the weekend, got to do the best kind of doorbelling, which is (of course) doorbelling with friends. Thank you to Elect Cindy Gobel and Megan Dunn for Snohomish County Council for getting out and talking to neighbors with me! It is such a pleasure to be on the campaign trail with these two dedicated, knowledgeable, compassionate leaders ✨️

Last week was full of wonderful opportunities to support and connect with community. I appreciate every person who takes the time to share their experiences with me, whether at their door, at a gathering, or just when we run into each other around town. I carry your stories with me as I work to ensure all of our voices are represented at the council decision-making table. A couple of special shout outs: thank you to Megan Dunn for Snohomish County Council for partnering with me for a great cause at the 2023 STOMP in support of Make-a-Wish of Alaska & Washington and, along with Elect Paula Rhyne, Everett City Council District 2 , Susan Paine for Edmonds City Council position #6 & Elect Cindy Gobel in supporting women and families at the 2023 YWCA Inspire event; and thank you to Elect Judith Martinez for Everett City Council for partnering with me at last week's community meet & greet event

My husband and I bought our first home here in 1998 after being priced out of the city we'd grown up in. But the story of housing in Everett is increasingly becoming the story of socioeconomic imbalance and exclusion. Thank you to the Housing Consortium of Everett & Snohomish County for hosting the Affordable Housing Breakfast Forum this morning, providing a platform for candidates to discuss this critical topic. Everett needs bold leadership on evidence-based solutions and unapologetic advocacy for the working people who make this economy run. I am that leadership and this is the work I am coming to do. Today I had the privilege of attending the ground breaking of the new Family Shelter at Faith Lutheran Church (in partnership with Interfaith Family Shelter) with Megan Dunn for Snohomish County Council, Elect Mary Fosse and Elect Paula Rhyne, Everett City Council District 2. This site will provide emergency housing for up to 8 families, getting them immediately off the street and into a safe place where they can begin rebuilding for themselves and their children. ALL of our children deserve safe homes. "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." -Frederick Douglass

It was a perfect weekend to help out with some of the clean up at the Labor Temple. Working alongside good people always makes the job feel a bit easier.

WSLC continues building a 'Path to Power' 14/04/2023

I recently had the privilege of being part of the Path to Power training organized by the Washington State Labor Council.

You know when you are somewhere and you look around at the incredible people sharing that space and just feel grateful? Well, that was 💯 the vibe for the 3 days I was there. I am grateful to have spent this time learning with and learning from this cohort.

This movement to build power for working families brought us together from across the state of Washington: from Bellingham to Everett to Seattle to Walla Walla to Cheney and beyond. We are out here doing this work, and we are coming to your ballots soon. We need you to be sure that you are registered to vote so you can send us to represent workers and families at every decision-making table.
