"Ang mga Istasyon ng Krus o Via Crucis ay isang sinaunang kilos ng debosyon na ginagawa ng mga Kristiyano upang matandaan at kumatawan sa pag-iibigan at kamatayan ni Hesu-Kristo habang patungo sa Kalbaryo. Noong panahong iyon, ipinahayag ni Maria ang awit na ito:

Today, December 18, marks the last Sunday of Advent. The final purple candle represents the last week of Advent as we anticipate the birth of our Savior. This final candle, also known as the “Angel’s Candle,” signifies peace. It reminds us of the angels' message: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men” (Luke 2:14).

This week we are reminded that Jesus came to bring peace to our hearts and to our world!

Kaunting araw nalang ang ating hihintayin para sa kapanganakan ni Hesus. At ngayon nga, sa ating Mabuting Balita, ay makikita natin kung papaanong sumunod sa utos at naging mabuting katiwala ng ating Ama si Jose.

Mabuting Balita: Mateo 1:18-24

Ganito ang pagkapanganak kay Hesukristo. Si Maria na kanyang ina at si Jose na nakatakda nang pakasal. Ngunit bago sila nakasal, si Maria’y natagpuang nagdadalang-tao. Ito’y sa pamamagitan ng Espiritu Santo. Isang taong matuwid itong si Jose na kanyang magiging asawa, ngunit ayaw niyang mapahiya si Maria, kaya ipinasiya niyang hiwalayan ito nang lihim. Did you know that Misa De Gallo is technically the midgnight mass on Christmas Eve?

This is according to the dictionary of the Real Academia Española. Misa de Gallo (meaning "Rooster's Mass") was called as such in several countries, with rooster as the heralder of the good news. Somehow in the Philippines, Misa de Gallo came popularly applied to all simbang gabi at Christmastime. So the next time that your grandparents correct you whenever you tell that Misa de Gallo and Simbang Gabi are the same, do not be surprised. ^_^

IF MISA DE GALLO IS TECHNICALLY THE CHRISTMAS EVE MASS, WHAT IS MISA DE AGUINALDO THEN?

Misa de Aguinaldo (meaning "Gift Mass") is among the most distinctive traditions of Christmas in the Philippines. Churchgoers offer the gift of sacrifice of waking up before the break of dawn for nine consecutive days to attend the dawn masses in thanksgiving, as a form of worship, or for a standing petition. Misas de Aguinaldo (plural of "misa" is "misas) are technically the novena masses we attend. These were introduced for the farmers who wake up very early to work, and; to impress Filipino Christian converts on the significance of Christmas Day.

Misa de Aguinaldo is a privileged votive mass, meaning a mass that does not correspond to the liturgical calendar but has a special intention. It is conducted for a ‘grave or weighty reason’ (pro re gravi) and with massive attendance of the faithful. Instead of the violet that is proper of Advent, the color of the vestments of the priests during the Misa de Aguinaldo is white. Gloria is also sung during this type of celebration.

𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐃 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓 – 𝐉𝐎𝐘

The third candle is ordinarily pink and represents joy. This candle is pink because the rose color represents joy, also known as the “Shepherd’s Candle.” The third Sunday of Advent is meant to remind us of the world's joy at the birth of Jesus and that the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent.

Today's Sunday is also called a "Gaudete Sunday". The term is derived from the Latin opening words of the introit antiphon, “Rejoice (Gaudete) in the Lord always.” The theme of the day expresses the joy of anticipation at the approach of the Christmas celebration.

Today, November 27, 2022, we celebrate the 1st Sunday of Advent. The first purple candle lit today symbolizes hope. Also known as the “Prophecy Candle” in memory of the prophets, particularly Isaiah, who prophesied the birth of Christ. It symbolizes the anticipation felt in awaiting the coming Messiah.

This candle has traditionally been referred to as "Prophet’s Candle" reminding us that Jesus is coming. The theological virtue of HOPE is at the center of the first week of Advent. This is the virtue practiced by the prophets and the entire Jewish race for 4,000 years, as they waited in expectation for the promised Savior. And it is the virtue each Christian must practice throughout his or her lifetime and is so well defined in the Act of Hope: “…I hope to obtain forgiveness of my sins, the help of Thy grace and life everlasting.”
