‪You should not think of a rest day as a bad thing! Most people associate rest days with being on the couch and being lazy! But rest is when the benefits of exercise take place!‬

‪Allowing proper rest into your program can help prevent muscle fatigue, reduce the risk of injury, and improve performance!‬

‪I will usually plan to take Saturdays as my rest day. Taking the day to enjoy Muskoka and give myself a needed recharge to get ready for the next week!‬

‪A Pull-Up is an upper body strength training exercise. Considered an advanced exercise, the Pull-Up is more difficult than the Chin-up.‬

‪To perform the Pull-Up you hang from the bar with your arms fully extended. You then pull yourself upward until your chin is above the bar.‬

‪Pull-Ups are great because they are one of the most effective exercises for strengthening the back muscles such as the Latissimus Doris and the Trapezius. While you will also be training your arm and shoulder muscles!‬

‪Pull-Ups are also a great tool for improving fitness and overall health. In your regular life a strong grip is important for performing everyday tasks such as carrying groceries. One of the biggest predictors of overall health is to have good grip strength. Pull-Ups are a great exercise to improve grip strength as you are lifting your entire body weight off the ground!‬

Foam rolling before a workout can increase ROM (range in motion), which will help in decreasing the potential risk of injury!‬

Aleks is a varsity swimmer for Ottawa University. When everything started to shutdown due to COVID, Aleks was worried he would lose all of his progress he had made in his sport!

The main goal Aleks had was to make sure he kept all of his fitness from the previous season as well as gain muscle for the next season. A personalized training program was developed specifically for his sport needs in the water as well as gaining muscle mass.

Welcome to Russell Muscle Fitness! My name is Brett Russell and I am a CSEP - Certified Personal Trainer.

CSEP is recognized as the gold standard in Canada for exercise and physical activity. My goal with Russell Muscle Fitness is to provide professional personal training to individuals who want to get active and help them throughout their fitness journey.

I am going into 4th year at Acadia University where afterwards I will be receiving my degree in Kinesiology with Nutrition. Throughout my time at university I have competed on the varsity swim team for the Acadia Axemen. During my third year at Acadia I was awarded the Academic All-Canadian achievement. This is given to students athletes with a GPA above 3.5.
