Golden Gates Sandbanks
Welcome to our holiday home on the tip of the stunning Sandbanks Peninsula. Renowned for its endless But there’s something very special about this place. Me?
Hi, it’s Donna here, welcome to our family holiday home in sunny Sandbanks. We’ve been coming to this area for years and love everything about it. The sun seems to shine far more than our home town in Cheshire (mind you that isn’t difficult is it?). You feel as if you’ve had a ‘proper’ holiday without setting foot on an aeroplane. And that’s just fine by me! We thought long and hard about where w

Did you know that statistically April is the driest month of the year in the UK, and 15th April is the driest day of the year. Handy that as Good Friday falls on the 15th this year. So forget April showers!
And in the interests of research I have checked past weather on Good Friday in Sandbanks (always fancied myself as a bit of a weather reporter):
2020 - sunny with highs of 21 degrees
2021 - sunny with highs of 12 degrees (but it was 17 degrees the day before).
In fact in 1998 we sat on the beach at Easter in shorts and t-shirts.

Another stunning week in Sandbanks. The weather was more than kind to us; beautiful sunny days and spectacular sunsets every night.
I also watched a group of school children enjoying the sea. What a P.E. lesson!! The benefits of living near the coast. Beats a smelly old leisure centre any day. 😂
The summer season is almost over and it has been pretty terrific. In fact we've been solidly booked since the beginning of May.
Our holiday home has been looked after, and bar a couple of broken glasses (think I've broken more at home), it looks just as good as we left it in Spring.
And this has nothing to do with luck. It's all down to having a great holiday letting agent behind us. Simon and his team at Rumsey of Sandbanks have been brilliant; attracting a top notch clientele, sorting out maintenance issues, operating military style changeover days, providing quality linens and generally going above and beyond for us, the owners and our guests.
I sometimes wonder how they actually get through changeover days on an extremely busy peninsula that is often gridlocked with traffic, with the added pressure this year of a Covid outbreak in the office.
I remember our first meeting with Simon when he said, 'trust me'. We have and he didn't disappoint.
Thanks Rumseys, we might not always say it, but we are ever so grateful. Here's to a great (may be less hectic) winter season. ⭐️
This was trickier than we thought but the view never looked better.

Wow 🤩
Just another Magic Monday...
5 reasons why I need to go back to Sandbanks this autumn:
1) To see the SBS guys in training (think SAS but better 😉).
2) To revisit Corfe Castle.
3) To make silly platters of whatever is going in the fridge.
4) To walk for miles on the stunning (deserted) beaches.
5) To sit and watch the water world go by from the comfort of my sofa.
October and November are fully booked but you can still grab yourself a break in 2021.

June is booked solid, July and August have some availability.
One day we'll change this kitchen (or at least the door fronts) but for now, it makes a cosy place to cook in the evening. We're also told that the warming drawer will actually slow cook a whole chicken. Anyone prepared to have a go? 😲
Can't wait to go back after lockdown.
This just popped up in my memories. Even November is gorgeous here 🌞
Our website is up and running. Please do take a look. All bookings are managed by Rumsey of Sandbanks (who are much better than me!!!). There's a link through to them on the website.

Golden Gates, Sandbanks
Hi, it’s Donna here, welcome to our family holiday home in sunny Sandbanks. We’ve been coming to this area for years and love everything about it. The sun seems to shine far more than our home town in Cheshire (mind you that isn’t difficult is it?). But there’s something very special about this place. We thought long and hard about where we wanted to be on the Peninsula. Actually that’s a lie; it was sea view or nothing according to the other half. And what could be better than the very tip of Sandbanks which is handy for the daily yacht-watch as they set sail for other shores. It’s a spectacle, I can tell you, and all for free!!! The panoramic views of the entrance to Poole Harbour across to Shell Bay and the Purbeck Hills are worth getting up for...every day! Honestly breathtaking. The ferry across to National Trust owned, Studland Bay is a hop, skip and a jump from the front door. You can easily while away the hours strolling over to Harry’s (that’s Rock not Redknapp). Or take a picnic and enjoy a relaxing few hours on the beach.
Mind you, you don’t have to jump on a ferry to enjoy the sand and sea because it’s right on your doorstep. Walk behind the Haven Hotel for a whole 60 seconds and you’ll be greeted with a beautiful little bay. It’s a bit quieter at ‘our’ end. But you could walk all the way to Bournemouth if you’re feeling energetic. Me? I prefer to pick up a Beryl Bike and cycle (think Boris Bike and you’ll get the picture).
Dine out at nearby Rick Stein or Loch Fyne. The next door neighbour, Haven Hotel also dishes up some very fine food. For more casual dining, head to Jazz Cafe on the beach or the aptly named Caff for a decent buttie. Tesco Express is your nearest supermarket, if you prefer to cater for yourselves; it’s one of the better Express’ I hasten to add.
