Brothers of South Carolina:
Thank you for your vote of confidence this past weekend during the District Conference. It is because of you that I was selected to lead our area of this great Fraternity. And it is because of you that we will together make South Carolina a leading District in the Region.
I want to take this time to thank the other candidates, Brother Dr. W. Franklin Evans and Brother Jeffery Hughes. Thank you for the work that you have been doing across this District. I look forward to working with both of you in the near future. Continue to hold the name of Alpha high in all that you do.
Also, I would like to thank Brother Don Weston, our current District Director, for his leadership for the past four years. Brother Weston, you have left us financially solvent and have built a great team of leaders across this District. For this I thank you!

SC Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., will volunteer on Friday, June 12th, during a free community fruit and vegetables giveaway. The event will take place at I. Dequincey Newman United Methodist Church (7801 Wilson Blvd., Columbia, SC). Brothers are asked to arrive by 4:15 p.m. to help unload the truck and prepare the food for distribution. Food giveaway begins at 6 p.m.

We continue to watch America suffer from yet another senseless act of POLICE BRUTALITY. Once again, we are forced to flood our city streets screaming and yelling chants that have become too familiar. “Black Lives Matter,” “No Justice, No Peace,” or one that will never get old: “No Racist Police...” “George Floyd, 46, died after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Footage of the arrest on 25 May, shows a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Mr. Floyd's neck while he was pinned to the ground.Mr. Chauvin, 44, has since been charged with murder.”
Unfortunately, George Floyd’s name joins the list of other African American individuals who have lost their lives to the hands of the people that are here to “Protect Us...”No longer will we stand for a system that doesn’t stand for us. George Floyd’s case sparked over 300 protests nationwide. We ask that you join us as we gather in unity for another one.

Meet Brother Vince Gatling Jr.
Brother Vincent A. Gatling, Jr., currently serves the District as the Deputy District Director. He has also served the District in a number of capacities including District Board member; Advisory Team, Gamma Gamma Chapter; Area II Director; Advisory Team, Gamma Pi; Special Projects Chair; Constitution Committee Member; and the District Conference Career Fair Chair. Southern Region past duties included: Southern Region Constitution Committee; 2012 Southern Region Convention Planning Committee; and Big Brothers Big Sisters Committee Chair. He has served his chapter as chapter representative to the NPHC-Columbia; Historian, Sergeant-at-Arms; Chapter President; Treasurer; Parliamentarian; and Bridging the Gap with Alpha 501(c)(3) Board Member.
Brother Gatling’s community service is vast and includes service through the South Carolina NAACP; City of Columbia’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Foundation; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia; 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia; City of Columbia NPHC; City of Columbia Divine 9 Foundation; Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocate; Brookland Baptist Church Brotherhood, Boy Scouts of America; Northeast Youth Basketball League and Richland County School Resource Officer Community Work Group.
Brother Gatling’s desire to serve as the 11th District Director is a way to continue his service to the Fraternity and community. Serving as the 11th District Director will allow him to maintain and build upon the level of efficiency that the District has achieved while mentoring and strengthening the relationship between the chapters of the District. Additionally, Brother Gatling is interested in improving the comradery that is necessary to grow the mentoring bonds between college and alumni brothers.
Brother Gatling is a member of the Omicron Iota Lambda Chapter seated in Columbia, South Carolina. He is currently employed with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, as a Public Contact Representative in Columbia, South Carolina.
