Today, on 2/22, I am stepping up to change the trajectory of women’s heart health and raise as much money as I can for my campaign and the Association. I’m raising funds today on 2/22 because among females 20 years and older, nearly 45% are living with some form of cardiovascular disease and many don’t even know. It’s time for us to change that stat and it starts TODAY.
Each dollar we raise in the fight against heart disease and stroke, is a dollar that can be put towards research and advancements to ensure longer, healthier lives for everyone.
Please consider giving to my campaign via this link [INSERT FUNDRAISING LINK]. With your help, I hope to change the trajectory of women’s health starting TODAY!

In this particularly painful week for women, and one that forecasts the struggles to come for other minority groups, I am excited and humbled to have Dr. Sarah MacCarthy talk to us about the necessity of accurate data in combination with advocacy to advance the rights of the LGBTQIA population. While data collection can seem slow to collect and slower to make an impact, Dr. MacCarthy helps us understand the role it plays and why it is critical to social and political power.
She was recently appointed as the first holder of the Magic City LGBTQ Health Studies Endowed Professorship. This professorship is the first of its kind in the country as well as in the Deep South, a region where LGBTQ individuals are especially limited in their ability to access quality services, despite being vulnerable to a range of health problems.
Please tune in and share. This could not be more important in the days ahead.

When I posted the interview with my mother about growing up racist in South Alabama, many of you expressed an interest in continuing the conversation. I have created a community DREAM THE FUTURE FORWARD (it's like a private Facebook - but with no ads and no algorithms), so we may continue to talk and reflect and learn from each other. I am hosting a zoom conversation through this platform where we can gather and chat. It is Wednesday, May 18 at 1:00 CT. I would like to continue these meetings monthly and include other activities such as reading books together, viewing important movies/documentaries, etc. There is a small fee to join as I have to maintain the platform and facilitate conversation and provide content for us all. Here is the link to join - there is also an app you can download on your phones. Please reach out with questions to [email protected]. Also, if you will share with others who might be interested - I would appreciate it!

When a resident filed a complaint about a book at Spanish Fort Public Library, I reach out to the author.
