Remembering Ruth Cortes, an extraordinary daughter, sister, aunt, friend. We miss you every day, we love you, we will never forget you. 💟✝️

Ruth accomplished a great many things for which she viewed as a blessing and faced adversity through it all with her unwavering Christian faith. She had a passion for helping others, especially using her skills in medicine. She left an indelible mark on all those whom she interacted with and formed friendships. It is a testament to how she lived and gave of herself and is evident in the creation by friends and colleagues at Touro University California of the Lt. Ruth Cortes PA-C Memorial Scholarship where she graduated from their Joint MSPAS/MPH program, and is to be awarded for a Touro student who shares her sense of selflessness and compassion. Help us keep her memory alive by helping a student who demonstrates exceptional perseverance and dedication to becoming a PA. Donations can be made using the link below.

When the Joint MSPAS/MPH Class of 2012 meets for a 10-year reunion in October, one of their classmates will be missing. Although alumna Lt. Ruth Cortes, a Navy and Air Force veteran won't be in attendance, she will still be close in the hearts and minds of her fellow PAs. She put off medical school to help her father take care of her sisters before serving in the Air Force Reserves.

After a six-year stint in the Air Force, Cortes attended the Touro University California Joint MSPAS/MPH program. After graduation in 2012, she completed officer training school with the Navy and worked in both emergency and family medicine in Camp Lejeune.

Joy Moverley, Joint MSPAS/MPH Program Director and former classmate of Ruth echoed the sentiments of others as to Cortes' character.

The PA program will hang a plaque in front of one of the treadmills in the campus fitness center to honor her memory, but Moverley is working with school officials to create a memorial scholarship for a Touro student who shares Cortes' sense of selflessness and compassion.
