Women make vital aids to the agricultural and rural economies in all developing countries.
Rural women in particular are responsible for half of the world's production and produce between 60 - 80 percent of the food in most developing countries.

Their roles vary considerably between and within regions and are changing rapidly in many parts of the world, where economic and social forces are transforming the agricultural sector.

Rural women often manage complex households and pursue multiple
livelihood strategies. Their activities typically include producing agricultural crops, tending
animals, processing and preparing food, working for wages in agricultural or other rural
enterprises, collecting fuel and water, engaging in trade and marketing, caring for family members and maintaining their homes.

Investing in female owned businesses is an opportunity for communities, states and countries to thrive. According to Micheal J.Silverstein in an article that appeared in Harvard Business Review; globally, women control about $20 trillion in annual spending. Supporting women entrepreneurs is really good business. When women owned businesses flourish, the community becomes better.

However, women face various challenges in running businesses. These include lack of funding, lack of mentors, cultural issues, political barriers and the likes.

One of the ways we are solving this is by reaching out to women in low income communities and training them on basic business skills as well as granting them access to funds to boost their businesses. We are doing this and we are seeing women being able to help themselves and their families as their businesses grow. Together we can help more women build sustainable businesses!

You can be part of this by volunteering, partnering, sponsoring a woman in business.

As a startup, there are so many mistakes that can be made, here are few mistakes that you should avoid

1. Unprepared business plan: A business plan will help you set a structure for your business and validated your idea.

2. Not leveraging Technology: With the digital media, technology has changed the way customers purchase their goods and services. Leveraging technology will help boost your business visibility.

3. Not asking for help: it is important you build a network of people that can help you grow your business. They can serve as advisors, mentors or investors. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

4. Rushing through hiring and onboarding process : when funding comes, you might be excited to hire and ease yourself of the work load but be sure you have a clear work description and you take your time to onboard.

5. Being too afraid to fail: One of the biggest mistake you can make is to be afraid of failure. This can keep you on a spot for long and make you not to to try new things.

What other start up mistakes do you think entrepreneurs should avoid? Share with us in the comment section.

Empowerment occurs when women together fight towards an issue rather than fight against each other.

When one raises her voice, it not just about herself, it is also about being the vice of those who are silenced.

We must begin to consciously support one another to see the change we want.
