Advice to the single men out there….
You may want to sleep with her without spending a dime,
You may know she will never consume your prime time,
You may not want a life-long commitment any time soon,
You may never want to linger in her bed for hours emulating a spoon,
Or on the contrary…
You may want to meet another love of your life,
You may want a forever partner in crime,
You may want to be Prince Charming in her magical fairytale,
You may want to meet her at the end of the sacred aisle and lift her veil,
Either way,
Don’t ever say what your intentions are before you’ve had that first date because you will just creep her out and seal your own fate.

I didn’t expect this but appreciate the recognition! My first novel…I wrote it for so many reasons. It started out to be cathartic and then It took on a life of its own.

Winesday is back already?!? Time goes by way too fast and so does our youth. But just because we are “at that age” doesn’t mean we give up and use getting older as an excuse. So I wrote this silly simple poem.
It’s called Purple Boots
I refuse to wear elastic comfy mom jeans…heck no, I won’t!
I refuse to cut my hair just because I’m 54 years old.
I refuse to stop exercising because I have a pain or two or three.
I refuse to sit on the couch
And watch scripted reality tv.
I refuse to eat like a fool and allow my metabolism to come to a screeching halt.
I refuse to take pills to keep my levels down from eating too much sugar and salt.
I refuse to sit on the sidelines just because I’m a retiring age.
I refuse to watch others do great things as I revel in jealousy rage.
I refuse to allow others to put me down because I live a life that doesn’t imitate theirs.
I refuse to allow negativity in my orbit because my precious hours need to be spared.
But if I have a weak moment where my head says “oh fine just let your self go,” I’ll pull on my purple boots and say hell to the no!

Good news on the book front. My book, Enigma Rose, got a four star review! I am very excited about that. But, there is always a but, I started restructuring it last week by breaking up the first half of the book. I am taking some days off of work to focus on it. Got my Edgar Allen Poe coffee mug to inspire me today! I’m re-energized!!!

This weekend I took a little trip to Richmond, Virginia, where I visited the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. They salvaged many of Poe's personal belongings, like his childhood bed and his table and chair where he wrote. What interests me more was the women who he loved, especially Virginia Poe, who was his first cousin and was only 13 when they married. In my novel, Enigma Rose, which will be published later this summer, I sneak in a little tribute to a very disturbed but brilliant author. Below is a snip it of an exchange between two characters in the book: Joshua and, his s*xual obsession, Rose.
The way she spoke about Poe’s eternal love for Annabelle literally aroused me. It wasn’t what she said but the way she said it. It was hypnotic watching her speak as her eyes rolled up into her head while her annunciations caused the little mole above her lip to dance. I hated literature, I hated Poe, but I fell in love with the way she spoke about literature and about Poe. All her little theories about the writings of a creepy dead guy who hallucinated on bad drugs fascinated me only because they came from her mouth.
“It’s in life that the woman in Poe’s writings is seen as the weaker s*x physically but morally is better than the man. And, she is only there to complete him. That’s it. But in death, the woman is a vampiresque creature that titillates the man physically, and at the same time, wreaks havoc on his soul. I find it a bit ironic when she is dead, he desires her the most. She is more unattainable.
“What do you think, Joshua?”
"I think…um…what you said. That makes sense. Yea, I agree.”
Rose would roll her eyes at my illiterate comments, knowing I hadn’t given it much thought. But what she didn’t know, or maybe she did, was I gave her more thought after the first few minutes of meeting her than I had ever given anything or anyone in my life up to that point. And just like the dead vampire ladies she talked so intently about; somehow, I knew she was made to haunt me for a very long time.

When I met with my web designer the other day who lives in the UK, I told him about the invasion of the cicadas. I sent him a picture of them and told him how they emerge from the ground. He called them the devil bugs. I think that’s how I will start my next book, “It was the summer of the devil bugs...”
