J.Thomas lures
First bass of the year!
I have been so busy with my full time job as a floor fitter, my lures have taken a backseat. I had no time at all to the point where I thought about shutting it down.
I managed to get out fishing for an hour with my little girl and after the excitement of landing a few bass I have decided to try and put more time into the lures.
I currently have some new shape Lignum Minnow bass lures ready for paint and should be ready very soon.
Due to work I don't have time for custom lures but I will be making a lot more lures and a few very special one off lures.
To any customers who have experienced delays I appologise and I will compensate you for the time taken.
I would like to apologise for the huge delay in my current orders. I am working full time in my day job and have had no time to get into the workshop. All delayed orders will receive a free lure.
Almost ready to start making videos!
Heres a big ole surface lure I am experimenting with.
The zombie perch looking good in resin!
Beautiful 🤩
Another late one but it's worth it. 🤩
Here is another custom Lignum Minnow bass lure. I can't take all of the credit from this one as I 'borrowed' 😁 the design from a friend of mine who makes some amazing lures.
His name is Andrejs Melniks and he makes some amazing hand carved lures.
Back in the workshop painting a few customs today. This custom clown fish Lignum Minnow is amazing! I want one! 🤩
In the coming weeks I plan to take J.Thomas lures to the next level by creating videos for facebook and youtube.
I plan to show the building and painting process that goes into making my lures and also make videos of my lures in action.
As soon as I am ready I will post a link to the J.Thomas Lures youtube channel.
I recently made some pike baits with an eratic action so I decided to make an injured looking paint job to match the action. I came up with this zombie perch design. The green should look great with a decent top coat.
I am proud to announce J.Thomas Lures has passed it's first 1000 followers on facebook and instagram!
Thanks to all of my customers and everyone who has followed my pages.
In the coming weeks I will be doing a free giveaway. I will give more details closer to the time.
Tested and ready for paint. With the new hook hangers and slightly larger lip these lures perform better than ever.
Tested a few lignum minnows today. Beautiful action with the slightly larger lip.
The bass lures are looking amazing even without paint!
As the bass season is fast approaching I have been back in the workshop making a few lignum minnow bass lures. I have plenty of pike lures almost ready for paint too.
Due to changes in my personal circumstances I have had a little time away from the lures. I found a bit of time this evening to draw up and start this Bosse wood pike bait. It's quite a big one!
The purple heart lure is looking amazing! It still needs the imperfections rubbed down and a few more topcoats before it is finished. It's been for a test and this one acts like a jerkbait. It is amazing how a different wood can change the action of a lure so much!
Check out this video of one of my lures I sent to DB fishing.

Well done to Patrick Cooke for catching this beauty on his custom J.Thomas Lures slow sinking pike bait.
I am very excited to present the first in my series of lures made from some of the finest wood's the world has to offer!
This lure could possibly my favourite lure I have ever produced!
It is made from Purpleheart wood from Central and South America. It gets it's name from the fact that it is purple in colour.
This lure still needs it's topcoat and it's weight but I just couldn't wait to share it!
I currently have these two lures for sale. For prices check J.Thomas Lures group or message me for more information.
These are the same as the lure I have been using to catch all of my pike but a different colour. These lures stay near the surface making them perfect for shallow waters. A very slow to slow retrieve works really well with these as the water is beginning to get colder. Because they stay near the surface you get to experience watching a big pike follow the lure. There is nothing like watching a pike smash a lure and with these you can do just that!
Number 3 for the perch lure! 9.5lb
Another 5lb on the perch lure.
The perch lure strikes again.
Ready for the exotic woods of the world lures, I have purchased some purpleheart wood fromCentral and South America (from Mexico down to southern Brazil). This should make for an interesting lure.
You may remember me saying I would make a Spitfire lure?
Here it is. A few more bits and it will be ready for topcoat.
I am constantly asked how do you know your lures can hold a big fish? So I have made this video to show everyone exactly how.
This is a tank track from a challenger 1 main battle tank. I weighed it on my fishing scales and it maxed them out at 55lb!!! I estimate it to be around 60lb.
This is a normal hook hanger that I use on all of my lures.
I have a few lures ready for sale. They are available on J.Thomas Lures group
I will be setting up an online shop very soon.
Lee Harvey with his 8lb pike, caught using a J.Thomas Lure.
Well Done mate!
🤩
Here's a preview of one special lure I am working on at the moment. This lure is made from Bosse, Guarea a hardwood from West and Central Africa. This wood starts pale and darkens with age. The Bosse alongside the gold leaf this lure will look amazing!
The oak and sapele lure with a topcoat
To continue the theme of fish coloured lures I will be taking inspiration from some of the worlds most beautiful and amazing fish.
The bright high contrast colours of these fish will be sure to cath the attention of any hungry pike!
Just finished getting this one ready for a test tomorrow.
This is the same as my other pike baits but it has a big lip to get it a bit deeper.
30 lures have their rattles and are ready to be shaped!
