Community Information & Support Victoria
Here's a quick article from GivingTuesday Australia about why it's important to - this week's theme.
We're all about supporting local initiatives! We represent over 50 community information and support agencies - that's a lot of local communities, and we want to do right by them. That's why we are participating in .
Covid-19 has highlighted and exacerbated existing inequalites:
- Kids learning from home means relying on devices and internet connections, something that many were already struggling to obtain
- Not going to school means parents are having to provide more meals than they previously would - a tricky thing to do when you're already struggling financially
- Families are stressed about extra utilities costs from everyone being home all the time
- Navigating support systems are tricky at the best of times, let alone if you are someone from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
Local community information and support services do their best to help with all these issues! You can help them support the most vulnerable during this time. Reach out to your local agency today and see what they need: https://www.cisvic.org.au/home/find-your-local-agency
Community Information & Support Victoria
Recently we concluded a survey about and the impacts these were having on people accessing emergency relief. In keeping with the theme this week for , we want to extend a big THANK YOU to all the agencies and people involved in conducting this survey. π
Before Covid-19, agencies were reporting a rise in requests related to education costs. We could all see there was an issue, but not how extensive! The information we gathered from the survey is still being processed, but we can already tell it is going to be invaluable.
With children now continuing their education from home, issues such as the cost of devices (more necessary than ever!) are being exacerbated.
Good advocacy needs good data; the more information we have, the better we can help. Thank you again to everyone involved! π

Victoria's Chief Health Officer
The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving and there is a level of fear in the community. Our workforce and our service users are not immune, so our member agencies are doing all they can to keep everyone safe while delivering a service. Some agencies have made a decision to conduct a phone service only, while others work out other ways to continue. Most face-to-face meetings and gatherings have been cancelled, with CISVic implementing a Social Distancing Policy. It is important that we all keep safe and continue to be kind and
look out for each other.
Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Dr Brett Sutton discusses current travel conditions and social distancing.
