Nice bit of bear folklore

Ever wondered where the origin of the phrase "to lick into shape" comes from? Wonder no more!

During the Middle Ages it was believed bear cubs were born as a shapeless and eyeless lump of flesh, which the mother bear shapes into its proper form by licking it. This belief is recorded in a translation of Guillaume de Deguileville's The Pylgremage of the Sowle, written approximately 1413.

In France the phrase "un ours mal léché" which translates as "a poorly licked bear" is used to describe someone uncouth or badly raised.

I wonder if Goldilocks has the same issues with her Social Network as we are having at the moment?

Meta appears to have changed the way our Page works, and I cannot tell if we will get all the facilities back that we have lost. For one, I am unable to thank our followers for their shares - we really appreciate them, but cannot put "Thank You" on them individualy, any more.

While we agree with Harold and say "NO" to wearing fur, he should have gone to SpecSavers!

REHAB MILESTONES at IBBR

It is always a bit sad to watch the kids leave home, but it is wonderful to know that they are back in the wild, where they belong.

The Washington twins - Georgie and Skip - arrived at IBBR in November last year. Those names were both picked in honour of Sally, IBBR's founder, who died in October. George was Sally's beloved horse, her closest companion for many years, her protector. Skip was Sally's nickname since she was a child. Many locals still knew her by that name.
Georgie was slightly bigger than Skip, and was clearly the protector and the explorer. Skip was feisty right off the bat.

Old enough and strong enough, now, to look after themselves, they were released back earlier this month.
