👋 I’m Lan (she/her) owner of ScentSmoke. I’ve been pouring candles since 2021 and a candle quote that resonates with me is: “thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” brings me so much joy and I’m grateful to be sharing this passion with you all!

Did you know that I’m also a learning designer by trade? This means I create joy and meaning through learning experiences. I do this full-time at ATB Business and facilitate ScentSmoke candle workshops on evenings and weekends! I may have met you at a private or hosted workshop at The Art of Cake, iava wellness, or Lovella Lifestyle 👋

I love meeting other creatives and supporting local businesses in Alberta, which is where I’m based and live with my partner and cat, Cleo. We have a special community here full of talent and grit - I can’t wait to spread more joy and happiness with ScentSmoke candles this year!

As I’ve grown over the years, a few people have approached me for an in-depth workshop on starting a candle business.

At first, I was really excited about this idea because 1) I have the skill set as a professional learning designer to create this course and 2) there is so much wisdom to share in growing a business from the ground up.

The reason why I’m on the fence is because I am not here to mislead anyone about the realities of starting a candle business and the passion, desire, and resources it can take to turn any of your creativity into a business. Some things must be learned by doing and it’s also not something that happens magically over 2 or 3 days.

But perhaps I can get you started and guide you along the journey 🤍 if anything does come to fruition over time, it will come with the intention of your success and connecting you to the community of amazing artists out there.

There is nothing better than reading your messages about how much you love your candles and the private workshop experience ❤️ because of you, we shoot for the stars✨

We are celebrating fourth birthday next Saturday by turning these beautiful, hand-carved dough bowls into candles. It is truly fitting to host this workshop to honour our special relationship, which has grown naturally since iava’s early days.

It’s amazing what a few years can do when you have a purpose and a passion. From making a candle that I loved (IYKYK the Boreal Bliss Incense Candles) to teaching other creatives how to make their signature candles at our workshops, hand-pouring candles is an art that brings so much light and joy.

🌲Winter smells like cedar, white pine, and oregonia around here 🌲 The pine & fir scent blends well with a citrus or sandalwood to create a rich and layered scent. Save this for your next scent blend!

Is there anything better than getting together and creating ❤️‍🔥 here are a few glimpses from the private team building workshop we did a couple weeks ago for Tiffany and her team!

Not only did they make beautiful creations for themselves, they collectively helped to make two extra candles for the team members who were sick that day! Love to see that dream work. Thank you for having us 🤍🤍🤍

Coming down with something? 🤒 Lavender and eucalyptus essential oils are perfect for calming the nerves and relieving congestion.

We designed a second signature candle with using lavender and eucalyptus and finished it with a crescent of lavender buds, which will also release their oils when floating in the wax. It truly is another classic - have you smelled it yet?
