Today, a former colleague and close friend Kody Leibowitz, is giving me the ultimate gift – a kidney! A life-changing diagnosis of end-stage renal failure or stage five kidney failure in March of 2021 led to several dozen doctor appointments, multiple medical procedures and dialysis. After learning of my diagnosis, Kody decided enough was enough and, through a kidney transplant, decided to gift me one of his kidneys to help me get back to a “normal” life.
On my podcast, "Vital Connections with Allen Vickers", Kody and I discuss why he decided to donate, our journey together from humble beginnings as coworkers at a small tv news station in Maryland, and the power of human connection.
