Somewhere along the way we were so curious ✨

This poem was written by Rudyard Kipling (author of The Jungle Book) in 1902. It speaks about the curiosity and the capacity one takes to learn.

His honest men he takes with him are questions. He takes them everywhere he goes to question all aspects of his experiences.

He attests to giving proper rest to his curiosity as there is time to focus on work and times to do the necessities of the day.

He compares his use of his serving men to another. One who has a million more serving men who they never give rest to. This could be he is speaking of a child. “From the second she opens her eyes” she is in a constant state of curiosity.

The poem has an important message of curiosity. That it is something we still take with us into our adult life, however, we become forced to limit its use due to our responsibilities. Our capacity to imagine becomes limited.

If you’re going to let people’s opinions get the best of you they will always have the power over you - always. Everyone likes approval, admittedly or not, but it is not something we need.

Needing approval will cause you to be dormant when you don’t have it. Most likely if you are always searching for the approvals of others you’re more often not receiving it. It is the one who care the less about receiving approval is the one who receives the most.

To have approval is to not need it but to appreciate it when it comes. You will not please everyone, but you can certainly always strive to please yourself. The rest will follow in due time.
