Cloud cover will steadily increase today ahead of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon with highs near 80. Storms will mostly be non-severe, but they could produce some brief heavy rain. The overnight hours tonight will be mostly dry. Like Sunday, afternoon showers and non severe thunderstorms may be possible Monday and Tuesday. The threat continues into Wednesday however, southern Wisconsin looks to dry out for Thursday through Saturday.

The Severe Weather Outlook for this evening has increased for our area. There is now a moderate risk (level 4/5) for severe weather this evening for areas south of Dane county, with an enhanced risk (level 3/5) for Dane county and areas east & west, and a slight risk (level 2/5) for areas north of Dane County. The biggest risk this evening will be strong winds (possibly up to 80 mph), but embedded tornadoes and hail is also possible.

Today will be warmer more humid. Heat index values may approach the upper-90s by late-afternoon. An isolated strong storm is possible at any point today, but a better chance for storms will come later tonight when a cluster of storms with damaging winds is possible into early Sunday morning. There is a chance that parts of our area miss out on the storms tonight (the most likely locations that will see storms will be areas north of Dane County). However, more storms are in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.

ALERT DAYS are in the forecast through Monday for hot temperatures and possible severe weather. With the storms tonight and tomorrow, there are two possible outcomes. The first outcome would bring storms mostly to the north of Dane County overnight tonight, with areas near the Illinois border missing out on the rain altogether. This will allow more storms to form Sunday evening for most of our area. The second outcome has our entire area experiencing storms tonight (with strong winds likely in this scenario), but that may prevent many storms from forming Sunday evening.

We'll see plenty of sunshine during the afternoon today with warm temperatures peaking in the lower 80s. Tonight will be clear and cooler with lows in the 50s.
