Congrats to Wilson High School for placing #1 in Berks County! It’s a huge accomplishment for our students, teachers, support staff, and administration! Thank you for all you do!
Wilson High School was the highest-ranked Berks County school in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 high school rankings!
The rankings use six different categories to evaluate and rate schools: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation.
Reading Eagle interviewed each candidate in May for the primary election. My views have not changed! Please see my responses to important questions below.
Brad E. Hart*
Age: 52
Occupation: Retired principal
Question 1: Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Response 1: My background and experiences are an asset to my ability to be an influential board member. I have been involved in education for the past 26 years, serving as a teacher, principal and school board member. I was a principal in the Wilson School District for six years before retiring due to vision loss.
I have also been an active community member and taxpayer within the district. I have other viewpoints through my wife, a current administrator, my youngest son, a special needs student, and my other four children who have graduated from Wilson.
Through my experiences, I represent various interests and understanding from diverse perspectives to help make complex decisions for continued educational excellence in the Wilson School District. I am vested in strengthening the district’s quality and the systematic processes necessary to ensure a comprehensive education and a safe learning environment for all students.
Question 2: What is the most pressing issue facing your school district and how would you address it.
Response 2: School safety and security is one challenge facing the school district, which involves not only the physical environment of the schools but also the safety and security of students and staff. As a school board, staying up to date with safety protocols, resources and best practices is essential to improve the processes necessary for a safe and supportive learning environment.
The school board needs to work with all stakeholders to ensure all facets of safety are identified and addressed within the district, including focusing on potential threats, student mental health, behaviors and discipline. Schools have experienced continued trauma-related problems, bullying and classroom disturbances. As a school board, it is essential to understand the data specific to the needs of students and focus on a comprehensive school mental health system to identify programs for early identification of mental health challenges and implementation of services based on the needs of the students.
Congratulations to all my running mates who will all be on the ballot this fall.

I have decided to run for re-election to help ensure a quality education and safe learning environment for all students. In addition, since retiring early due to vision loss, I am vested in improving the district's quality and systematic processes to give back to the community through service on the board. Through my background experiences in education and involvement in the Wilson community, I represent various interests and understandings from diverse viewpoints to help make complex decisions for educational excellence in the Wilson School District. In addition, as a parent of a special needs student, and an individual with a disability, I have become a more vigorous advocate for all students, especially those with disabilities.
This is a great opportunity to come out and meet the candidates running for school board.

As a current board member, former administrator and parent in the district I am extremely vested in helping to continue to make Wilson School District a place where everyone loves to live, learn, and work. I am married and the proud father of five children. I have a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in school administration from Lehigh University. My experiences as they relate to education include being a teacher, an administrator, father of four Wilson graduates and a special needs student, spouse of a former teacher and current administrator, a taxpayer, a community member, and a board member for the past eight years.
