"I do not at all understand the mystery of grace - only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us." - Anne Lamott

The biggest gift you can give yourself in motherhood & parenting is grace, beautiful human.

Grace when you're tired and grumpy.
Grace when you've overcooked the green beans.
Grace when you forgot the laundry in the washer and must wash it for the second or perhaps third time.
Grace when grief rises up unexpected & you can't contain it.
Grace when your toddler has watched 7 straight hours of Kids YouTube shorts.
Grace when you left the one item you really needed at the bottom of the grocery cart.

Offer yourself more grace.
Offer others grace, too.

And maybe, just maybe, life will feel a little bit lighter.

Mothering is not just for mothers, as I've been writing about lately. Sometimes, birth workers show up for my classes and ask what value they can bring to this space having not birthed themselves.

I don't believe you need to be everything to a child in the capacity of mother, father, parent in order to bring necessary good into this space. In fact, I know plenty of folks without children whose value in sacred seasons of pregnancy through postpartum and early parenting is immense.

What they (you!) bring to the table, I cannot some days. And while we aren't watching tots and elementary-aged kids in our home jumping into lava pit pillow piles on the regular anymore (most days), my hands are full every day.

And so, I wrote this yesterday.

Pondering the immense beauty that is mothering in all bodies, always.

If you occupy this precious space, I would love to hear your thoughts on mothering too ❀️

With you.

On this International Day of Peace, we want you to remember that peace is your birthright and that through birthing and/or choosing to raise precious children in this wild world, you have the opportunity of a lifetime. To call that peace back in; and, to empower your children with embodied peace from and through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Have you thought about how responsive, respectful and conscious parenting is the way foward - really, for all of humankind to thrive? With peace as the foundation for your mothering and/or parenting journey, you are making a significant difference.

We thank you for this today and every day.

With you.

P.S. We don't expect your path to be perfect, and we (as parents) can remember the wisdom of choosing peace - reclaiming it - over and over and over again.

Keep lavender in mind for your complete postpartum healing πŸƒ

What remedies can you have on hand for postpartum? Lavender is one of my go-to's for a variety of reasons. Topically, it can reduce pain levels when applied to the hands and feet in a balm, salve or massage oil. And aromatically it can soothe the mind-body!

If you are curating a basket or box of things for your postpartum or for the postpartum of someone you love, consider adding lavender in!

The best part? Lavender is now clinically proven to produce specific results like less anxiety in surgical birth & postpartum.

I always love when science catches up with ancient medicine, friends!

With you,
J. πŸƒπŸ€°πŸŒ»
Your Virtual Doula
The Postpartum Institute

A note to birth workers, you can benefit from lavender too! Manage your mind with this wonderful gift from Mother Nature after a long birth when it's hard to get to sleep, or when you've had a long day full of postpartum people. Your calm will be contagious 🌈

Bonus article for cesarean birthers & access to conversations like these, can be found at thepostpartuminstitute.mn.co. In our free Community Care group (it's an app, not Facebook πŸ₯³) you'll get direct links to articles and research studies, plus receive access to ALL THE TIPS on living your best postpartum & life.

You're worth it.

01/09/2023

You were meant to blossom, bloom & grow in motherhood and parenthood, dear ones. Consider that the words "you've changed" to also mean you have evolved or are evolving πŸƒ

Most of the people we love are not comfortable with change, by the way. This is not a reflection of you, but simply their capacity to step into newness and new life with you.

On this note, over the years, I've found that when one partner says this to another, it can be an invitation to deepen communication. Sometimes the safest container for that will be a quiet time just the two of you & other times you will want to invite a counselor, coach or mediator in to hold space for you both.

No matter what, if you like who you are becoming, please keep becoming.

The world needs more of us who have fully come alive!

Save, share & as always, feel free to share your experience of expansion with us below πŸ₯°

With you,
J. πŸƒπŸ€°πŸŒ»

Maternal-child mental health challenges are messy.

And they'll radically change not only your life, but your relationship with the Lord.

"The invitation into your child's world means a surrender to being STRETCHED beyond recognition.

It means refinement by fire.
It means dying to personal desire.

It does not mean dead, though.
We do not lose life here.
We gain it.

WE GAIN IT.

If you are personally in the fire right now, I want to encourage you. This weekend I sat with my local MFMH family & we spoke just such life into one another.

Even in the hardest seasons, days, moments, there is bread. There is beauty and life and joy that just doesn't make sense.

I can pop a 50-lb child over my shoulder & make a getaway from a painful moment AND be in awe that my physical body is still able to do this 😭 I'm not saying this happened this week. I'm also not saying it didn't.

Even in the hardest seasons, days, and moments, my loves... there is bread. There is beauty and life and joy that just doesn't make sense.

So, if you're being stretched beyond your own recognition...
If you're standing IN THE FIRE...
If you're not even sure what personal desire is anymore...

BREATHE

Look for the beauty

ONE MORE BREATH NOW

Look harder

It's there.
I promise.

Dear ones, some language is for for every stage. So, this goes for if your babe has just come earthside or is presently in the double-digits.

Look harder.
Beauty still exists.
It co-exists.

Do you agree? ❀

I'm exhausted after fighting a migraine & allergic reaction the second half of this week, friends. Yet beauty. Crafting with this fabulous little-big human. Listening to her brother learn the cello. Beauty.

Being real with you is an honor I won't forsake.

Thanks for always being real back."
- Jennifer The Barefoot Preacher

25/08/2021

Reposted from our founder The Barefoot Preacher -

"Why is God so comfortable with allowing us to experience the very outer reaches of our limits? I don’t know." - Andy Squyres

I DON'T KNOW πŸ”₯

It's a valid answer, loves.

A valid answer for when we are in the hole & when we are not.

I remember when I first started referring to myself as a special needs parent...

I felt seen.

Seen because my daughter lives with mostly-invisible special needs, except for when it's highly visible... yet because of her neuro-typical appearance, it's never TRULY visible by anyone who hasn't been here in the land of the messy middle - or isn't God him/herself.

Loves, I don't know when we get to stop falling into the hole 🀷 I don't know why God stretches us, or allows us to be stretched. I don't know why my Abba allows OCD, ADHD, sensory processing disorder to EXIST. I don't even know why s/he allows me to exist.

Yet, here I am. Here I am. Gifted with UNFATHOMABLE compassion for my child, my family, my fellow parents - labeled or not.

So, on days when you feel like no one sees you - that God isn't seeing this - please, please know another human is seeing this. She's with you even if you're thousands of miles apart.

To those who see me/us, I am forever grateful. Beyond words grateful. To my God who sometimes seems absent yet never is, I'm still grateful You exist. And that you allow me to, too.

Even if it's hard sometimes.
Even if.

If you need a reading for today visit Romans 12, loves ❀ it gives me light on dim days.

With you.
Always, always.
J. 🌻

Would you stand in the fire for this God who is with you and within you? Do you TRULY know who's you are?

This Saturday is our live conversation on your real identity, Mom.

Get a sneak peak TODAY at 9 am PST by joining founder Jennifer Magnano and Shanicka House of on IG LIVE!

About Shanicka: Shanicka Vail House is the wife of Virginia native, and worship artist, Chris House, and the mother of two beautiful girls Raegan Leigh (5) and Rhian Elise (3), and also the Angel MOM to Justice River and JaKob Bean.

Having always been passionate about serving, Shanicka was able to really share her love for assisting others as she traveled the world serving Motown Recording Artist, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, as personal assistant for about five (5) years. This was key in helping to grow and prepare Shanicka to walk in the ministry God would give her.

My TransParent (MOM)ents, LLC, a ministry, a brand, and a business where she connects with, encourages, and shares her life with other MOMs online and in real life, as well as through apparel in the MTM online store.

Gifted to serve and assist in many different capacities (a wife, mother, author, and entrepreneur,) Shanicka is most grateful for God’s continued faithfulness to honor her heart to serve.

16/08/2021

At our core, we are a community to explore a mothers truest identity at the intersection of faith, motherhood, and mental health. So many mothers have bought into the lie that the ONLY identity that matters is MOM.

I was one of them.

In 11 years of soul searching, I have found over and over again that the title, role, and label of MOM are invaluable to my journey! And also, I am so much more than MOM. So are you.

This month we are tackling one of our biggest conversations yet for our More Than Mom series with Shanicka House of My Transparent MOMents.

Do you know yourself?
Do you know WHOSE you are?
Do you have faith that STANDS FIRM in the face of what looks like certain death?

Lean into Shanicka's story with us on August 21st. Even if life has brought doubt and dysfunction and dismay into the picture, we aren't walking this long road home alone dearest one.

As you grow in knowing whose you are, we think you might just have a better idea of your value, identity, and worth.

We are with you.
Jennifer & The MFMH Team
