Have you ever wondered about having a water birth? Is a water birth even safe? Aren’t water births only for those giving birth at home?
If you are intrigued by the possibility of a water birth, or just love hearing birth stories (I know that’s a good chunk of people here 😉) I want to invite you to join me as I chat with Certified Lactation Counselor and mother of 2, Liba Chaya Golman as she shares her (gasp!) *hospital* water birth story 🛁.
I can’t wait to hear about it! Let us know what questions you have in the comments here or in stories.
See you Wednesday, February 28th at 1:30PM EST.
Can’t wait!
Check it out! My favorite newborn photographer featured me in her blog series this month.
(Important to note that I support all PARENTS, and you’ll see this reflected in the blog post, despite the name of the series)
Our March Mother to Mother series is Live!!!!

New year, and many new followers! Welcome to my corner of the Internet—I’m so glad you’re here, and I’d love to get to know you.
Some stats for my first year in private practice! I opened my practice in February, and this year I met my goals for both paid and gifted work supporting families.
I’m excited to provide feeding support to even more families in 2023 and increase my offerings for prenatal breastfeeding education. #2022
I know it can feel tedious to repeat the details of your birth—whether in your intake paperwork or talking with me in a session. It may even feel upsetting or traumatic, depending how your birth went relative to the preferences you had, and where you are in processing your feelings about your birth. I want you to feel safe discussing your experiences with me, and I am always happy to work through the details with you and refer you to the supports you may need.
Instagram is not your lactation consultant. It can be a fun tool full of helpful tips from lactation professionals, but no amount of clever posts replaces personalized support. Every breastfeeding journey is unique, even for the same parent from one child to the next. For that reason, every journey needs and deserves individual support.
Your child’s pediatrician is not your lactation consultant. Unless they pursue additional training, your ped has 1-3 hours of breastfeeding education and that’s it. They are an expert on children’s medical needs, they are NOT an expert on milk supply, feeding frequency, or pumping (or infant sleep).
Your friend who just had a baby is not your lactation consultant. Yes, they have more baby feeding experience than you do—but they also have their own journey, and the challenges and solutions that they experienced won’t be the same as your experience. There is no one-size-fits-all feeding advice!
Your OB (or midwife) is not your lactation consultant. They have varying amounts of lactation training and are able to screen and care for basic medical issues of the breast like infections, but their job is to be an expert on your uterus!
That Facebook group is DEFINITELY not your lactation consultant. Though it may be full of well-meaning parents (or event lactation professionals) who authoritatively share breastfeeding advice or opinions, those people don’t know you and they don’t know your specific situation. And often, they’re giving out bad advice that is not based in evidence (even if the group says they are evidence-based 🤡)
Lactation professionals have ethical codes, and that means individual advice that is specialized to YOU and your situation. I can give general tips, and they may or may not work for you.
If you want to be empowered to achieve your feeding goals, work 1:1 with a qualified lactation professional who tailors their support to your needs.
Thanks to one of my favorite doulas for this post concept!
Hi there! Welcome to the page for Lev Lactation, a little thing I started to provide evidence-based feeding and lactation support to parents in the DC area and virtually everywhere! Here’s a little about me.
📸 photo credit to my wonderful husband. We have been married almost 3 years and live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC.
🏡 We recently bought our first home, and it has been so fun figuring out where everything goes (and doing a kitchen renovation, which is thankfully finished!)
✡️ We are Orthodox Jewish, which is why I cover my hair with a scarf (and sometimes a wig!) I’m always happy to talk and answer questions about my religion, and I love learning about other folks’ spiritual practices.
👶🏼 I have one adorable son who currently alternates between wreaking havoc and giving adorable hugs. Toddlers are so much work and so much fun!
🤱 I’m deeply passionate about supporting all breastfeeding parents and ensuring that EVERYONE gets the help and support they need. Breastfeeding requires community and a village—let me be part of yours!
