๐ฅ Trikonasana (triangle pose)
๐ One of my all time favourites! Stretching my side body has always felt so oooooooo good!
๐ข In the past I used to suffer from chronic low back pain... But no more!
๐ช Through targeted strengthening asanas and various poses that stretch out the Quadratus Lumborum (QL) muscle (and lots of practice) now, I rarely suffer.
๐ The QL muscle is located either side of your lumbar spine and joins the top of your pelvis to your lowest ribs, it is the deepest ambondinmal muscle!
โค๏ธ I work with a lot of clients who are very fit and active, however a lot of exercise tends to focus on our exterior layers of muscle groups, and the deepest muscles which provide us with real strength and stability are often left out of many repetitive workout regimes.
๐ฆธโโ๏ธEven if you are fit and strong, if your deepest stability muscles are weak or unworked, it is easy to overcompense with the wrong muscle group causing injury and/or instability... How good is your balance?
๐งโโ๏ธLuckily, yoga, through balancing asanas and deep streches, these deep muscles are targeted, woken up, strengthened and stretched, giving all round good muscle health, stability and a better framework for movement.
๐If you are fit and active, but find you have tightness, soreness, or areas that are easily injured, then bring some yoga into your life! I promise you won't regret it!

๐ฅAvocado on seeded sourdough toast... Excellent source of healthy fats, fibre and those much needed carbohydrates!
๐งHomemade hummus with lots of tahini
๐ฅฌGreen goddess salad with cous cous (iโค๏ธcarbs... Who doesn't!), parsley and dill for flavour and chlorophyll, calcium and vitamin c to name just a few... Also raw kale again packed full of chlorophyll and essential fatty acids and is great roughage to pass through your gut, helping to scrape away dead cells of the intestinal wall for optimum gut health (of course it also feeds your microbiome, all fibre does! ๐ฆ ) and watermelon ๐๐ great source of vitamins a, c and e, not to mention packed full of fibre and water, not only helps you feel full but also hydrated in this hot weather!
Eat well, love yourself, love food, love your gut, be happy! ๐๐๐

The aftermath of 108 SUN salutations โบ๏ธ... This time round anyway ๐
Day 21! 108 sun salutations done!
Having spent every other day (bar 1 2,3) resting my injured hamstrings, they had healed enough so I could join back in with the challenge on the final day.
And I never expected I would be able to do all 108 after so long resting but there we are! Surprise surprise! Goal achieved... But there's more to come, another 108 days if I'm not mistaken ๐.

Day 2
I was stiff and sore!
Yesterday we completed in 1 hour, today we did it in 40 mins!
Yesterday I had to skip a couple of rounds to catch my breath, today I was able to power through no breaks!
Improvement comes thick and fast when you practice everyday.

Starting off 2021 with 21 day challenge with the wider Rishikesh Yog Dham family.
54 rounds sun salutations with intent to complete 108 on the final day. Nothing like a big yogic endorphin hit!
Its said that if you do 108 sun salutations for 108 days you never need to do asana again, let's hope it never comes to that!
I've had a lot of creaks and cracks to work out lately, feels good to bring them to the surface!
I call this one, the joys of blind optimism! ๐Found myself looking back at how I started the year and in the process found a photo I hadn't seen before! Thanks to for capturing this moment ๐ must have been feeling the freedom pretty hard, it was good to see almost a year on.
I don't need to mention the year the world has had, or the tightening and losening of restrictions we've been under in the UK more times than we can count. I won't lie the yoyoing has made be beyond dizzy, I haven't yet developed the resilience it takes to not affect my mental state and my behaviour.
This year has knocked me back. I've been less than productive, often acting against my own self interest or shying away from my own development. But I will get there, just need to learn me some more resilience.
I'm not one for these kinds of posts but I think some self reflection is long overdue after hiding away.
But that's just life init really! There's ups, there's downs, no point getting worked up about, that's just how anything is going to play out. There's no real duality because up and down are just parts of the same life.
So here's to recognising and ending all this nonsense and just be content to know that one day life will be like it was in this picture again, and many many many more times after that, all mixed and mushed in with the s**t times too ๐. Love yourself, it doesn't really matter, there's always another day to start again.
Breakfast has to be my favourite meal of the day ๐
As happens sometimes I've been straying from healthy eating habits lately but this breakfast made me so excited to fully embrace what I know is good for me and to keep on track.
Didn't even eat the bacon in the end, I handed it over instead to a very grateful and hungry man.
