Middlesbrough 1st
VOICE - CHOICE - OPPORTUNITY
Hey all, quick post about last month's Brothers and Sisters meeting with our wonderful attendees!
The main focus of the group was activities surrounding what our group members think is important to them as well as their interests as well as drawing pictures of ourselves! We also had activies such as a gentle exercise session led by our own brilliant Amanda as well as a session around the subject of 'Safe Spaces' in Middlesbrough!
Amanda and the group either wrote or drew a responses to a series of questions in order to gauge what the group felt should be included in a safe space. All the responses that we received were brilliant, but highlighting the main ones, we found that:
-The group wanted a space that would be open to anyone who felt that they were unsafe in order to be as inclusive as possible.
-They also wanted a space that felt 'homely' to help people relax, suggestions including, snacks, drinks, games and appropriate decorations!
-A number of suggestions from our group members also stated that shops may be considered as good places for safe spaces, due to the members having their own favourite preferred shops or places that were familiar to them.
The session was then finished off with a few fun quizes, such as naming animals and matching them to letters of the alphabet as well as a quiz about naming Disney films and characters!
We've also included some pictures of what our group members came up with!
Our Brothers and Sisters group enjoyed the Cleveland Fire service visit about fire safety in the home with an opportunity to ask questions. Afterward the group did some paper exercises on fire safety and recapped on what they had learnt.
The afternoon session was cause for celebration as It was Claire's birthday! Claire is one of our beloved members and Trustees. Everyone enjoyed chocolate cake and sang Happy Birthday. Afterwards we had fun with a quiz game naming parts of the body by using the alphabet and going around the round the room therefore members taking it in turn to have a go. We followed this by doing dance exercises and exercise games with a ball.
We then asked our members to write down on post-it notes how they felt about the session to provide feedback!
