Castor Z. Concepcion Memorial National High School (CZCMNHS) held a two-day School-based Campus Journalism Seminar-Workshop for the 82 editorial staff of Morning Breeze, the English school paper, and Bayanihan, the Filipino school paper with the theme "From Campus to the World: The Global Reach of Campus Journalist" at the school pavilion on February 27-28, 2024.
During the first day of the event, Mrs. Aiko R. Apostol delivered a lecture on News Writing, Ms. Gladys O. Obillo tackled Copy Reading and Headline Writing, Mrs. Regine R. Obejas discussed Editorial Writing, and Mrs. Loraine N. Fajardo shared about techniques in Photojournalism.
On the subsequent day, Mrs. Macrina O. Cruz talked about Science and Technology writing while Mr. Javis Bon N. Arciaga, a teacher from Apatut Elementary School and a former cartoonist of Morning Breeze, demonstrated his skills in Editorial Cartooning. Meanwhile, Mrs. Regine R. Obejas and Mrs. Loraine N. Fajardo tackled Feature Writing and Sports Writing, respectively. Each lecture was immediately followed by a workshop and the learners with the best output for each category were recognized.
"Written work is more effective than violence as a means of social and political change," stated Dr. Joel B. Nava, School Principal IV, highlighting the power of the pen in his inspirational message.
Likewise, Mrs. Macrina O. Cruz, Head Teacher III of the English and Filipino Department, encouraged the participants to take the first step towards reaching the world by being a campus journalist.
The activity was conducted as an echo of the Division Training for School Paper Advisers which was attended by the SPAs of the school and as a part of the preparation for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference.
