President Barrow Assents to Access to Information Bill and Six others

His Excellency the President of the Republic, President Adama Barrow, has in recent months assented to several Acts of the National Assembly including the following seven Acts;

• National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority Act, 2021
• Petroleum Commission Act, 2021
• Tourism Offences (Amendment) Act, 2021
• Persons with Disabilities Act, 2021
• National Assembly Service Act, 2021
• Supplementary Appropriation Act, 2021 and the most recent is the Access to Information Act, 2021.

These new laws represent a wide range of critical socio-economic interests that the President has relentlessly pursued since assuming office. Assenting to the Acts makes them legally binding laws of the Republic of The Gambia. The President has demonstrated commitment to the socio-economic transformation of Gambians, inclusive growth and fostering democracy.

President Barrow Presents an SUV and GMD500,000 Dalasis to Gina Bass and Gambia's 2020 Tokyo team.

His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, on Thursday, presented a Nissan Kicks to Gambia Olympians Gina Bass and an amount of D500,000 to the entire Tokyo team, at a ceremony held at State House on Thursday evening. The President said this presentation is done by his government to show appreciation to Gina and the entire team for the success registered at the games - something that raised the Gambia's name higher at the 2020 Olympic.

The Olympians with the executive members of Gambia National Olympic Committee GNOC with their trainers, team Doctor were accompanied to the State House by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deputy Permanent Secretary Technical, as well as Executive Director and staff of the National Sports Council.

In his appreciation remark, Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie, the Minister of Youth and Sports expressed delight over the gesture and initiatives so far taken by the Government of the Gambia under the leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow. He reiterated the Government commitment to support sports and the Young People of the Gambia.

He assures the Olympic Committee of continuous working relationship, and Government commitment to supports all sporting disciplines. Emphasising that he's always proud of athletes who represent Gambia at international level.

President Barrow Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to the Fight Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking

President Adama Barrow Wednesday reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking during a meeting with officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) and their Nigerian
counterparts at the State House.
The courtesy call on President Barrow was to brief him on the MOU signed between DLEAG and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria (NDLEA). The MOU will strengthen collaboration between the sister countries to fight against drug abuse and trafficking within the two countries and the sub-region. Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria, said that the partnership’s objective between the two institutions is to “stem the flow” of the trafficking in drugs.
“Drug trafficking is a threat to national security,” said Gen. Marwa.” If you look at West Africa now, all kinds of criminal gangs are moving from one country to another, causing great havoc and disturbing the peace. These gangs use drugs to perpetrate their evil acts and finance other criminal activities.” General Marwa noted that it is crucial for The Gambia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria to “collaborate and cooperate to …eliminate drug cartels in our countries.”
Bakary Gassama, Director General of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), said it is vital for countries to fight against drug trafficking and other organized crimes in the sub-region. He added that the DLEAG would benefit a lot from this partnership with Nigeria.
