Posted • Alienisation and the New Normal.
Here is the front view (see last post) to show the common changes (digitally created on the right) we are seeing today with the gross misuse of dermal fillers. Thank you to my beautiful sister for allowing me to use her face (on the left in real life).
In my next post I will present a classification of the New Normal to help us identify and better understand the phenomenon of alienisation which is a major epidemic in our industry amongst patients and practitioners.
Ahead of the presentation, I wanted to show this front view so that you can see the distortions in comparison to a natural and normal appearance.
Alienisation refers to the distortion of features beyond what would be considered normal for the particular individual.
Note again that some people present naturally with certain features in the simulation, but the problem is creating these in others and making everyone look the same.
So why is alienisation taking place?
There are many reasons for this and while the lack of regulations play an important role, distorted results can be found commonly amongst some of the most highly qualified practitioners. It would appear that while for example our knowledge and understanding of anatomy is increasing exponentially, this is at the expense of artistry which is grossly lacking in our industry.
The distortion of features often involves a More is More approach and so monetary gain or greed is an important factor to consider.
However, it is the case that many (both practitioners and patients) lack awareness and simply do not see. The reasons may be Perception Drift (the changes in perception of self after new treatment), brainwashing (from the daily bombardment of abnormal images, especially on social media), a lack of artistic acumen and image disorders such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder which in a small survey was found to be more common amongst practitioners.
It is important we understand all the reasons for this epidemic which is spreading at an alarming rate and fast becoming the New Normal. It is important because this will help us with damage limitation.

This patient had concerns of her face having no dimension. With the use of accurately placed dermal filler we created the perfect feminine face.

▪️very subtly placed volume back into the nasolabial folds
