Fear Covid-19 not the police – Dr. Chilufya urges
By Mavuto Chipeta
Minister of Health Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has urged members of the public not to fear the police but fear the Coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19 because it kills.
Giving an update on the Covid -19 occurrence today at Ndeke House in Lusaka, Dr. Chilufya was worried that members of the public were more afraid of the police than the virus itself.
He thus cautioned members of the public to fear the virus because it kills and destroys lives than the police who are merely enforcers the law.
“Comply with legal framework in fighting Covid-19. Fear the virus and not the police because Covid-19 kills, the police are merely enforcing the law,” Dr. Chilufya said.
He added that adherence to health regulations is key in protecting communities against the Covid-19.
And Dr. Chilufya has urged members of the public to embrace officers working to enforce public health guidelines in the fight against Covid-19.

‘SEER 1 CAN’T INFLUENCE OUTCOME OF 2021 POLLS’

‘Seer 1 can’t influence outcome of 2021 polls’..it is only Zambians who have the right and power to make change
By Nancy Chindalo
A Lusaka based Church Leader says Nigerian controversial prophet Andrew Ejimadu popularly known as Seer 1 has no power to influence the outcome of next year’s 2021 general elections.
The South Africa based prophet has for sometime been running sustained hate and propaganda campaign via social media platforms against President Edgar Lungu and his government.
But Presence of God Overseer Apostle Christopher K***a said in an interview that Seer 1 has no ‘power’ over the destiny of the country hence his utterances should not be taken serious.
Apostle K***a said it is only Zambians who have the right and power to make change.
“It is not a secret that Zambia is facing many challenges but the words coming from Seer 1 that he has ‘power’ over Zambia is not true, we believe that a foreigner has no power to control the destiny of this country,” K***a said.
K***a described it as unfortunate some Zambians that have been supporting seer1’s utterances on social media.
The clergyman further stated that Seer1’s ‘insults’ to the Presidency cannot be tolerated in some countries.
“People should stop supporting Seer1, he has been speaking against the President and it is unacceptable because he is an outsider, we had elections in 1991, there was no seer1, 2001 he was not there and in 2006 and so he cannot say he has power to control the Zambian people,” he said.
The Apostle added that the South African based prophet should stick to the pulpit than trying to influence the Zambian people on who to vote for in 2021.
“If we want change, it is only Zambians who have the power to bring that change through the ballot and not an outsider or a witchdoctor,” he added.
Others feel Seer1’s negative sentiments about Zambia shows how bitter he is on his deportation.
Recently this year, Seer 1 made revelations that some Zambian politicians had acquired supernatural powers from him to sustain their stay in power.
Seer 1 also predicted that the current ruling party will fail to rig the 2021 general elections.
S*x boosters damaging to own health - ZNMNDG
By Nancy Chindalo
Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development (ZNMNDG) has expressed worry at the influx of foreign traditional healers who are advertising s*x boosters and other concoctions for enlargement.
ZNMNDG National Coordinator Nelson Banda has since called on the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to check the escalating number of foreign traditional healers mainly from East African countries who are putting adverts, posters asking Zambian men to take s*xual concoctions to enlarge their manhood.
“We are worried that some foreign traditional healers are putting advertisement and posters asking men to take s*xual boosters to enable men go for more s*xual rounds as this could have health implications on men and women,” Banda noted.
Banda further noted with worry that authorities such as the immigration department and the LCC have not taken interest to check the conduct of the traditional healers who have found Zambia to be the most lucrative country for doing such illegal healing business.
Banda is of the view that in the wake of increasing cases of s*xual and gender based violence, asking men to drink s*xual concoctions to enlarge their manhood could trigger s*xual violence especially r**e and defilement.
“Men should be warned against taking s*xual concoctions to enlarge their manhood as this is damaging to their own health and the health of their partners,” he said.
He further expressed worry that most of these traditional healers have Zambian mobile phone numbers adding that this is evidence that they have been in the country long enough conducting their illicit business with the full knowledge of authorities.
The Central Business District including bus stops and main streets around Lusaka are littered with posters where foreign traditional healers are advertising their services.
Clergy calls for peace in Lukashya by-election
United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Northern Presbytery Bishop, Maybin Musonda has advised political parties taking part in the Lukashya Parliamentary By-election to exercise utmost tolerance and engage in development focused campaigns.
Bishop Mulenga said candidates vying for the Lukashya seat and their respective parties should desist from hate speech, name calling and violence as they woo voters ahead of the September 17 by-election.
He noted that it is unjustified for political players to create anarchy in the run up to the polls, saying the people of Lukashya should be allowed to freely choose their representative.
“In my pastoral counsel to the politicians, I wish to urge them to exercise utmost tolerance and avoid violence because what we want is peace. They should desist from politics of insults, regionalism and tribalism” Bishop Mulenga said.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama, Bishop Mulenga also urged electorates in the area to reject politics of violence and division.
And Bishop Mulenga has challenged clergymen to be above board and remain non-partisan in carrying out the work of God.
He said it is sad that some ministers of the gospel are openly taking sides and influencing people to support certain political parties in election time.
Bishop Mulenga said the clergy should strive to be peacemakers and not divide the people they lead on political lines.
“It is not our duty to stand on the roof top, present some certain candidates, anoint them and present them as messiahs to the people. Ours is to be peacemakers” He said
Meanwhile, Caritas Kasama Director, Leonard Kalyoti has appealed to political parties participating in the Lukashya Parliamentary By-election to engage in issue based campaigns unlike instigating violence.
Fr Kalyoti observed that Lukashya Constituency has been lagging behind and needs a leader that is determined to address the aspirations of the people.
He further cautioned youths against being used as instruments of destruction during campaigns.
“The people of Lukashya should take time to scrutinise the candidates and not be swayed by sweet talk. Our youths must also refrain from violence. “Said Fr Kalyoti
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set September 17, 2020 as the date for the Lukashya Parliamentary By-election following the death of Independent Member of Parliament, Mwenya Munkonge on July 18.-ZANIS
PF ruled offside
By Nancy Chindalo
Patriotic Front (PF) is an outgoing party which should not be allowed to mess up democracy, which Zambians have enjoyed for many years, National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice president Joseph Akafumba has said.
Akafumba said an attempt to deregister his party by the registrar of societies is political and has since accused the PF of being behind this.
Akafumba further charged that President Edgar Lungu is a dictator who has destroyed institutions of governance and that the Registrar of Societies has not been spared.
Akafumba added that the only way to restore sanity is to vote out PF in 2021.
Recently, the Kabwe High Court dismissed with costs the deregistration of the opposition NDC.
High Court Judge Isaac Kamwendo found the state’s attempt using the Registrar of Societies to trash democracy to be irregular.
The state will now have to pay NDC all the costs incurred in this exercise.
And Akafumba said the party does not agree with the Society’s action and that the Kabwe High Court delivered a landmark judgement.
Akafumba stated that the Registrar of Societies was off the line saying that the attempt to deregister the NDC was null and void.
“The action taken by the Registrar of Societies was political because there was no reason whatsoever to take that action of deregistering a political party that was registered and issued with a registration certificate,” he said.
Akafumba said the judgement now enables his party to be in full gear as provided in the constitution by providing checks and balances.
“It is unfortunate that the Chief Registrar of Societies allowed herself to play to the political tune, the same person deregistered the MMD and Harry Kalaba’s Democratic Party (DP) but the court ruled her offside, this is not a coincidence. It is the PF behind this and they are putting on a mask hiding behind the society that should not be the case,” he said.
Meanwhile, Akafumba urged Zambians to guard their space and democracy adding that it is the duty the opposition to go flat out and educate people on their rights.
“Kabwe High Court in agreeing with our position condemned the state, the society should pay for misconduct in a public office,” he added.
Humbleness and obedience key-Clergy
Kabwe Catholic Diocese Bishop, Clement Mulenga, says there is strength in being humble and obedient.
Speaking during the ordination service of six deacons to priesthood at Don Bosco Parish in Makululu, Bishop Mulenga said humility and obedience is cardinal to achieving set goals.
He reminded the new ordained priests to be humble and obedient to their superiors in order for them to achieve their calling.
He said the new priests have been set apart in a special way and now have authority on behalf of Christ to minister the gospel.
Meanwhile, Chifunabuli Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Ponde Mecha, urged the clergy in the country to be part of the debate on Bill 10 of 2019.
Mecha, a lawmaker for one of the parliamentary seats in Luapula Province, said the church has a long history of mediation where there is conflict.
He said the newly ordained priests should not shy away from issues to do with bill 10 because it is a constitutional matter.
And gracing the reception at Viovin Entertainment Centre for the new priests, Central Province Minister, Sydney Mushanga called on the church to continue praying for the leadership of the country.
Mushanga said the church should continue praying for the political leadership including those in opposition.
He said this will help to put the interest of the people and nation first as opposed to ambition. – ZANIS
Rural teachers not receiving hardship allowances- ZNUT
By Nancy Chindalo
Zambia National Teachers Union of Zambia (ZANUT) has disclosed that there are some places where teachers are still not accessing rural hardship allowances.
ZANUT General Secretary Newman Bubala attributed the challenge of some teachers not getting rural hardship allowances to the mistakes made during the mapping of schools which was conducted some years ago.
He said in an interview with the New Vision that some schools were captured as being in urban areas when they are located in remote areas.
Bubala stated that the Union is seriously engaging government so that it finds another mechanism of determining distance from the post office.
“We may have a situation where people stay 25 kilometres from the post office in defined towns but the system says they are not qualified for the rural hardship, this has been a long standing problem, which can be resolved once we correct the system,” he said.
“The sad part of it is that to date we still have places where people are not accessing rural hardship allowances just because of coordinates, these codes were terribly mishandled, the people who were on the ground did not do a good job, you find that a school, which is 200 kilometres away from the post office is detecting that it is within the urban area, so you have a situation where people are suffering because the coordinate system did not do a good job,” Bubala said.
Meanwhile, Bubala said that there is need for a policy direction where all stakeholders will agree on the best solution to deal with the issue of COVID 19 before reopening non examination classes.
Bubala said with the escalating cases of COVID 19, the Union will not recommend a piecemeal solution that will see the reopening of schools in areas perceived not to be recording high COVID 19 cases.
“We are aware that all examination classes are learning but we are not going to have a situation where some places perceived not to have recorded high Covid 19 cases to re-open, it should be uniform and serious solution to this,” Bubala said.
He noted that the learning environment should be conducive for children by having an assurance that they are safe and learning under a good environment.
And Bubala noted that in as much as e-learning does not suite all, it is a good platform which is being accessed.
“This e learning is an urban issue and we are trying to produce a lot of modules which go with the same syllabus for children in rural areas but to produce modules needs serious funding,” he added.

Save Lives Foundation donates to Ng’ombe Clinic, Seko Orphanage
By Nancy Chindalo and Henry Chunza
Save Lives Foundation donated 800 cloth face masks to 10 health facilities and food hampers to Seko Orphanage in Mandevu Constituency.
Save Lives president Younus Essa said he was happy to donate to Ngombe clinic and other clinics in Mendevu Constituency.
Essa said Save Lives foundation feels it is its responsibility to support the front line health workers during this time as way to supplement governments effort in the fight against Covid 19.
“We feel that clinics during this time of the pandemic need Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) like face masks and it is also our duty to help the front line workers because they are looking after these patients and they are the heroes in this fight hence we have made reusable face masks, we are part of Zambia, hence we need to help in any way we can because this disease does not see any race, anyone can get it,” Essa said.
He pledged to continue working with government in helping to uplift the living standard of the less privileged in society.
Essa explained that it is the duty of the corporate world and other stakeholders to work with government in addressing the spread of COVID-19.
And Essa disclosed that he wants to open a home for the vulnerable children and that he is waiting to be given land by the minister to aid his vision for the vulnerable and orphaned children.
He added that the orphanage will train these children in various skills such as tailoring and carpentry.
“I would like to build a home for the vulnerable children in society, I’m requesting for land from the minister so that that vision can become a reality,” he hinted.
Meanwhile, Mandevu MP who received the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries commended the foundation for supplementing government efforts in helping curb the further spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“ We have mounted tents at this facility to check people coming in to the centre and we will be giving out these masks especially to those that come in without masks,” she said.
And Seko Orphanage Founder Angela Malik said she will always be a mother and father to the 39 children who are living at orphange.
German agri business company Amatheon set to harvest
…for first quinoa crop in Zambia cheers Mukwita
By Vision Reporter
Zambia´s Ambassador to Germany Anthony Mukwita has commended Amatheon, the agri business company that has started growing Quinoa, a highly nutritious food that has a semblance with rice.
Ambassador Mukwita said he learnt with great pleasure that the decision by Amatheon to grow the crop would also create jobs to some 1000 out growers that live around the agri business premises founded by German millionaire Carl Henrich Bruhn.
“Bruhn has informed us that the company is preparing for the first harvest of the crop that is very nutritious and could help bridge the nutrition gaps in Zambia that have in the past contributed to stunting,” Ambassador Mukwita said.
Quinoa is a gluten-free, whole-grain carbohydrate, as well as a whole protein food, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids and it’s much cheaper and affordable than other carb foods according to experts.
Amatheon high lights in Zambia
Amatheon agri business employs some 650 Zambians full time that actually pay taxes while it provides support system and lifeline for more than 3000 out growers to its farms in Mumbwa and Lusaka.
Ambassador Mukwita said CEO and founder Bruhn needs to be lauded for filling in a nutrition gap in the country through the new crop quinoa pronounced ´Kweenah´ and for continuing to create direct jobs.
Amatheon also provides schools and medicare in the areas it operates from as part of social responsibility to the immediate community while Bruhn is one of the major cooperating partners of the embassy of Zambia in Berlin according to Ambassador Mukwita.
All farmers participating in the quinoa growing have undergone training provided by Amatheon staff and external consultants in order to cultivate, handle and harvest the highest food quality standards possible said Bruhn.
Ambassador Mukwita observed that Amatheon Agri Zambia continues to support crop diversification in the country while offering an expanded product portfolio to the company’s clients.
Quinoa is particularly well-suited for growing under arid climate conditions and given Zambia’s number and length of growth days, temperatures and rainfall patterns, Amatheon introduced it as a new crop – first commercially and within its Out-grower Programme.
Bruhn said what his company has done is to bring to smallholder farmers, high value products that have a global market and a guaranteed offtake.
Ambassador Mukwita said Amatheon´s presence in Zambia speaks volumes about industry in Germany that Zambia is a safe business destination and haven for more Foreign Direct Investment or FDI.
“If a company in Germany wants to know whether it is safe to invest in Zambia,” Ambassador Mukwita said, “we simply direct them to Carl and show them how his investment is blossoming safely in Zambia…Amatheon is a poster child of success for an individual single investor from Germany for us.”
This is according to a statement issued by Kellys Kaunda, First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Berlin- Germany.

By Godfrey Ludaka
Former Netball national team player Numala Katenge says Zambia Senior National Netball team should aim at repeating past history next season after the Covid 19 period is over.
Netball is among the sports that has been on hold since the outbreak of Covid 19 in Zambia.
Numala said that it will be great honour for Netball team to rewrite history next year an exploit achieved four years ago in Singapore.
“It will be great honour for Netball team to rewrite history next year, achieved four years ago in Singapore” Numala said.
Zambia became the first African team to win the 2016 Mission Foods Nations Cup in Singapore.
Zambia then beat Papua New Guinea 65 – 49 in a game played at the OCBC Arena to emerge 2016 Mission Foods Nations Cup champions.
Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) hailed the team for putting Zambia on the world Map.
Ngoma said that this is Zambia Senior National Netball Team’s first trophy won outside Africa which will be remembered for many years to come.
And Numala has praised the technical bench led by Coach Charles Zulu and all the players for putting up an impressive performance which still lives in many people’s memories.
Gay rights has no place in Zambian football-soccer fans
By Godfrey Ludaka
Scores of soccer fans say Gay rights have no place in football in Zambia because of its status as a Christian nation.
Soccer fans spoken to observed that Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will not allow an idea of introducing gay and le***an rights through the sports because Zambia forbids the act by constitution.
William Banda former player has condemned the move as satanic and devilish.
He said most European leagues and some parts of the world have already adopted and introduced gay and le***an rights through the sport.
He observed that the country was declared a Christian nation by constitution which does not support gay rights.
Banda said it is an offence to practice such activities with a prescribed 10 to 15 years jail sentence.
The practice is therefore expressly against the law in Zambia to practice same s*x marriages or relationships.
And Former Germany international Hitzlsperger admits he is gay
Hitzlsperger has become one of the few high profile sportsmen, and the first well-known footballer from his country, to publicly reveal that he is gay.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert praised Hitzlsperger for going public and former foreign minister Guido Westerwelle, who is openly gay, said the former player had shown courage.
"I'm making my homos*xuality public because I would like to advance the discussion of homos*xuality among professional athletes," Hitzlsperger told Die Zeit in an interview to be published on Thursday.
The 31-year-old, who retired in September, played 52 times for Germany between 2004 and 2010 and spent his club career at Aston Villa, VfB Stuttgart, Lazio, West Ham United, VfL Wolfsburg and Everton.
Kalumbila Mine pledges job security, safety
By Martin Musunka
KALUMBILA Minerals Limited (KML), a wholly owned First Quantum Minerals (FQM) subsidiary, has reassured workers of job security and safety at the place of work as the mining sector grapples with coronavirus which has distressed the global economy.
KML assistant general manager Junior Keyser said during a restricted Labour Day occasion at Trident Country Club in Kalumbila on Friday where 44 employees were recognised for their contribution to the mining company that workers were entitled to job security and deserved safety as they carried out their work.
Keyser, who remembered employees who died while serving Sentinel Mine in the Safety Department, said it was justifiable for employees to be accorded job security and safety because of their commitment and hard work.
He also paid glowing tribute to mine unions – the National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW) and Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) for inculcating the positive working spirit in their members for them to work hard.
Keyser said the KML management was elated with the mine unions for providing leadership to their members by explaining labour laws and employees’ rights, which has played a major role in having a knowledgeable workforce which understands the provisions of their employment.
In presenting the Leadership Recognition Award to eight deserving employees, Keyser said in times of adversity such as the one the company was going through, with the COVID-19 pandemic that has ravaged the world, now more than ever leaders needed to rise up and be counted.
“We need them to calm the storm and drive positive change. We need inspiration, we need responsible people to remind us that we can always rise above all challenges that we face. We need people who turn individuals into a team and make working for KML worthwhile,” he said.
He, however, said the good news was that the company already had such people who cannot go unannounced and had been represented by the various nominations received across departments at Sentinel Mine.
KML human resources manager Briton Mwiinga said all Kalumbila Mine employees are important parts of a whole, in the achievement of the company’s overall objectives and explained that management values the contributions of all workers.
In presenting the Outstanding Performance Award to 14 recipients, Mwiinga stressed that there are individuals who go above and beyond in their efforts and exceed expectations consistently.
“To you I say thank you! You are truly an inspiration to all of us and have set the bar extremely high – EVERYONE is watching you! You have not only been outstanding in your performance but also in the upholding of safety and demonstrating our Values of Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together,” he explained.
KML process manager Jean Pierre Van Der Vorst said operating the same way others do can be easy as most people are capable of learning and coping with the routines but adding that the difficult part was finding new and improved ways of doing things.
In giving out the Innovation Award to eight beneficiaries, Van Der Vorst said human beings are destined to evolve, but not all of them drive that evolution. “Not all of us have a creative mind. Where most of us see a problem, others see an opportunity. Where some of us are satisfied with the way things are, others always strive to improve.”
The Most Safety Conscious Award which was presented by safety manager Brent Pondang went to electrical supervisor Gilbert Kakinga whom he said has been involved and developed videos pertaining to the THINK Safety Programme and TFDs for Kalumbila Mine.
Mine operations manager Rees Magrath, in conferring the Resilience Award to nine deserving employees, noted that most people do their jobs good enough and it ends there while others are not good at multi-tasking, with some not being good at sharing or teaching others yet others are not brave.
However, Magrath explained that he was presenting the award to colleagues who have demonstrated that they are brave and strong in their performance in many difficulty circumstances, often stretch to perform in other areas beyond their core area of responsibility, while keeping their own area shining.
They were also recognised for demonstrating keenness to share with teammates the art of effective multitasking, inspiring positive change, sharing experiences with others who were struggling to deliver results and tactfully developing themselves and patiently excelling through the rank and file.
