Jen Pellet for Vernon Board of Ed
I'm a local mom and business owner running for Vernon Township Board of Ed.
Posting as a parent, not a BOE member... For those of us who are concerned about the decline in state funding for our school district, here are two places to write to decision makers. Gov Murphy's funding decision is not final until it's voted on by legislators in June, so please make your voices heard about what the loss of $8.6 million in state funding is doing to our district. Some talking points: Our kids are losing teachers and after-school programs, as well as after-school busing in a town where school activities are often the only accessible opportunity for healthy recreation during a crucial developmental time for these kids. All of this at a time when anxiety, depression and suicidal are at an all-time high for teens.

Welcome to my new candidate page! Here's a little about what I've been doing—and intend to continue pursuing—as a member of the Vernon Township Board of Ed.:
• Working diligently to strengthen the Vernon Township School District for our students and community.
• Stabilizing district spending to address a $10 million reduction in state funding, while minimizing the impact on staff and students.
• Supporting the pursuit of grant funding to supplement budget shortfalls, enabling the district to avoid cutting programs and staff positions.
• Ensuring the update and repair of aging school district infrastructure to keep our students and staff safe and to prevent further deterioration leading to the need for more costly repairs in the future.
• Improving the district’s career technical education (CTE) program to equip Vernon students with relevant skills in nine areas of employment, including certificate programs in cosmetology, culinary arts and construction, as chair of the Curriculum Committee.
• Ensuring the expansion of programs to support families with additional college and career planning guidance and resources, both to prepare our students to enter the workforce and to help them access affordable opportunities for higher education.
• Fostering positive engagement between the schools and our community through hands-on involvement with Student Life Committee events, including annual signage celebrating Vernon graduates, the Artstanding festival and school carnivals.
