Some quick updates on the project:
1. The Water Committee will be convening a meeting this week under the auspices of the President, Mola Ngundu Mokomba. I had a conversation with him last week on some of our key milestones.
2. I contacted an expert on local water sustainability projects, one of our Buea brothers. He has accepted to help us develop a training program for members of the water committee. He mentioned to me that the lack of training and transfer of water management skills to locals is the bone cancer that kills 95% of such initiatives.
3. They have to be trained on water-treatment, management of finances, book-keeping, and how to tax the villagers, per household a maintenance fee. The expert termed the household fee, "one beer" per month, per household. Meaning about 600frs per house.
4. Individuals will also be trained in the long-term management of pipes, taps, etc.
I will publish the manual here once it is completed. I am still encouraging others who have not made a financial commitment to try and do so. Our goal is to get 300 Buea men and women to each give a minimum of 80,000frs. However, contributions in any amount are welcome. Nothing is too small.
