Get your orders in asap if you need kids masks. I'll have time to sew this weekend! And I've got to sew some more for my kids anyway. Where do all their masks end up? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

12/12/2020

So with each purchase of a mask 50 cents goes into the charity pot. We've been accumulating and have over 60$ now! I'd like to donate to one or two local charities this December. I'm thinking one human and one animal charity.

So if you have any ideas for a wonderful local (Nanaimo) charity drop a comment please :)

Made some kids masks with matching elf masks! How cute is that! I can also make matching scrunchie πŸ˜‰ 3$ add on.

Tis the season! Of spreading cheer not germs πŸ˜‰

10$ 2 layer Xmas/winter prints (remember they are reversible so you can wear after the season)

Choose the letter, ties or elastics, to add on a toggle or lanyard and lemme know if you have a specific backing fabric you'd like (to flip and wear after the season)

16/11/2020

A few reminders before I drop the Xmas fabric tomorrow.

1. Washing: hand wash or washing machine on gentle. best to lay flat to dry
2. Masks are made with a high thread count backing material. This is purposeful for its increased ability to trap viruses which is the masks purpose!
3. Masks are custom made for you to allow for choices! I want you to be comfortable wearing your mask!
- 2 layer/ 3 layer, ties/elastic, choice of front fabric and pu/mailed
4. It can take a couple days to complete a mask or might be done in a day. Depends on what's going on. So let me know if you need it asap and ill do my best to prioritize. I've got young kids so everyday is a new adventure!

03/11/2020

I suppose it's perfect timing to mention I have filter fabric for 3 layer masks! Numbers are rising steadily so nows a good time to order before the rush. Keep in mind that many store bought masks are single layer and are made more for aesthetics and compliance. 2-3 layers has always been recommend!

So if you're looking to stay protected and protect others this winter I've got you covered πŸ˜‰

Spooktober special πŸ‘» is here! Halloween, superheroes, frozen, dalmations shopkins, secret life of pets, and plain black prints are 10$ each made to order πŸ•ΈοΈ

Here are my 2 Halloween prints. I've also got plain black or orange, superheroes and various other prints to get you in the spooky spirit.

Did you know you can wear my masks in reverse? Just roll the nose wire and flip to the other side and bam! 2nd color option 😜

01/10/2020

Whoa it's October already!? Who's ready for spooktober? I'll have some cool Halloween fabrics coming out soon :)

I haven't been active much lately as I've been side tracked by transitioning my oldest to preschool. Here's the fidget quilt I've been making for him.

Back to school sale!

Pre cut fabric 10$ each, kids size only.

Choose your own fabric with lanyard included 15$ any size.

Help me reduce my precut bin! Frozen, pink etc. Add a lanyard to precut sale for only 2$

Lanyard choices are pink, navy, silver and black.

Lanyards are here! These work great with elastics to allow you to hang the mask around your neck when not in use. And you can use the toggle to cinch the elastic off your ears if you so wish.

Fantastic for kids!

Cost is 3$ add on to a mask purchase. If you've recently purchased a mask you can add on a lanyard but I won't be selling them on their own.

Colours are pink, grey, black and navy blue

I've got toggles in! When you combine a toggle with paracord magically abilities are imbued on your mask. Okay well maybe only if you have a Harry Potter print mask?

Toggles are great for kids and adults alike. No tug on the ears, quick cinching to desired tightness and when you slide the toggle to take it off the mask can dangle around your neck so you don't loose it.

So powers imbued: quick n easy on/off, don't loose your mask and great for long wear.

Pic of my 2 yo wearing his toggled up mask to his check up. His diagnosis was "adorable" πŸ˜‰.

Alberta to require masks at schools this fall, but still no mandate in B.C. - Nanaimo News Bulletin 04/08/2020

I've already been getting requests for school children. With the uncertain future of the fall I understand parents anxiety. I have new fabric stock coming to the site soon in prep for schools return. Like frozen, trains, otters, shopkins etc.

If you choose to buy from stores or others just please make sure the fit is correct for your child. Nose bridge should fit flat without gaps, fabric pressed again skin along jaw line and in front of ears. For long days in school consider ties instead of elastics, headbands to pull elastics off ears and even backup masks for each day.

My masks are made to protect not just to fulfill obligations. Whatever you wear, keep safe!

B.C. doctor heads to court to demand province make masks mandatory | CBC News Dr. Wei Li, a family physician in Burnaby, B.C., is asking for a court injunction requiring the province to bring in a mandatory mask policy for indoor spaces like restaurants, schools and public transit.

Masks recommended but still not mandatory in B.C. as province sees spike in COVID-19 cases 21/07/2020

Masks recommended but still not mandatory in B.C. as province sees spike in COVID-19 cases Although it’s not mandatory to wear masks in B.C., it’s recommended when physical distancing isn’t possible. BC Transit handed out masks in Greater Victoria on Monday to encourage the use of face coverings on buses, where being two metres apart isn't always possible. In a press conference last...

UPDATE: No COVID-19 at Woodgrove Centre as memo mixed up mall identities - Nanaimo News Bulletin 01/07/2020

A reminder to not jump on any bandwagons. I had many people share the story that woodgrove had a case but reminded people Dr. Henry had not included a van isle case that day. Many news sources ran the original article so the blame falls on woodgrove's parent company for not getting their information straight.

Also, I actually had been at the mall briefly last week. Of course I wore my mask and was in and out asap. I'm still seeing very few people wearing masks. Can you imagine how fast covid could have spread has this case been real?

My masks are made with at least 1 layer of tightly woven 100% cotton for ample filtration. I am now making SUMMER masks made from 2 layers of 100% cotton with a slightly looser weave. Still filtering air but allows air to move more freely.

Let's talk fit. There are plenty of incorrect ways to wear masks but it is imperative to wear your mask correctly to have the best protection.

You want a good seal around the edges of the mask to force the air you breathe in through the fabric. The most common mistake I see is air escaping around the nose. This is why I use strong comfortable wire that can hold the mask tight to your nose.

Picture is of me removed one ear elastic. Mask doesn't fall off, gj nose bridge wire πŸ™Œ

Totoro has finally arrived to Netflix Canada and he showed up at my studio too! Look even the soot sprites are wearing masks! πŸ˜‚

I have limited availability for these fabrics. Masks from these patterns will be 15$ due to the extra costs of these fabrics.

Chillaxing Totoro or Ninja Totoro fighting covid-19!

Wondering why there's little hearts sewn on the nose bridge? Well there's 2 reasons :) 1: it's functional. It helps secure the wire used to allow adjusting and securing of the nose bridge. 2: We all need a little reminder now and then that the world is still a good place. I ❀️ making masking and keeping you safe :)

You can't see because I have so much hair but I'm wearing a mask. Masks are becoming required for more things these days, including hair cuts. Let's keep everyone safe.

I finally got my hair chopped off! Thanks to for once again doing an amazing job. As you can see in the before pic, she usually does my colour (it's a year old in pic). Check her page out for the cool pics of different colours and cuts, look hard and you can find my mermaid hair. My 1 yo also got his haircut and there was no fuss. Beth works wonders and has a studio in her home but it's in separate safe area.

To quote one of my amazing crafty friends "You should always be wide awake when cutting fabric".

πŸ˜‚ I'm not sure what wide awake feels like anymore, my youngest son likes to be up at 6 am 😭.

Okay so not the first time I've cut myself with my rotary cutter but I got a new blade recently and this cut was a good one. 😭 Ow. So my blade was carefully cleaned and left to dry overnight meaning less sewing and cutting happened tonight.

Tomorrow I'll be cutting out some scrub caps in the early afternoon while drinking coffee πŸ˜‰

Using hand sanitizer is gonna suck for a while!

05/06/2020

Here is a collage of fabrics available for scrub caps.

Why only these options? Fabric is harder to come by at the moment with mail taking forever and few options in town.

Why these fabrics? These are tightly woven 100% cotton fabric making it better at stopping small covid virus particles.

Scrub caps have no guarantee and are non-medical. I make no promises but I do what I can to make them the best they can be. Buttons can be sewn on them for mask elastics.

L-R: dusty blue , dark brown , light blue , organic cotton beige/white and red

It's been about 3 months since either of my kids have been in a store. I'm still wary about bringing them but alas it was needed today. Pic is my oldest on my back in his toddler Tula. He just turned 4 and wears the kid size with elastics. His mask is fitted like mine it just looks odd in the picture. I'm wearing the women's size with ties.
