Happy 30th birthday, Trompe Le Monde! Comment your favorite track.
While the music blogosphere is obsessed Lorde’s butt, released their 18th album today, a record of mainly happy, major key songs, recorded during lockdown. It’s a departure, weaving synths and midi sequences with acoustic guitars, but it’s also all KGLW.
25 years ago, this classic was released.
This gem turns 20 today. I always forget Black Book is on this record because this was on my very first MP3 player, some little junker that couldn’t fit the whole record on it, so I took the first track off. That may be the only track I don’t know like the back of my hand.
👍👍👍
Our favorite indie rockers are becoming quite prolific!
Water's Push by Koalra Stream and Pre-save Water's Push - Distributed by DistroKid
This new album from Koalra is absolutely one of the best indie rock albums I’ve heard in about a year, when their last album came out. Smashed between those two full lengths, they released an EP and a few singles this summer. With elements of chime-y college rock, chugging indie rock, post-punk repetitiveness, and shoegaze-like effects, this band is definitely one to watch.
Killer new live record from Thee Oh Sees (or OSEES or whatever they’re called these days)

Radiohead’s Kid A turns 20 today. One could argue that not only did the album mark the start of the band’s sound changing forever, but also was the beginning of how they would release music in subsequent years. It was a timely record for the first year of the new millennium.
This might be the best record I’ve heard all year. Technically it came out in December 2019, but this 8 song banger from has been on repeat at SMHQ all of 2020. They also released an EP this summer and a few singles. If you haven’t heard it, you need to.
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary was released 15 years ago today. Shine A Light and Grounds For Divorce are a couple favorite tracks here at SMHQ.

Sonic Youth’s Washing Machine turns 25 today. A classic!

30 years ago today, Superchunk released their debut album! It’s still amazing. (And yes, we named our blog after its single).
#30
Beulah. Their debut album Handsome Western States from 1997 is a must listen.
Lotsa press on Bossanova turning 30, but Pod turned 30 this year too!
