Aly Bear is the Third Vice Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), a proud mother to two daughters, a lawyer and a descendant of Dakota, Anishinaabe, and Nehiyaw heritage from the Whitecap Dakota First Nation. Vice Chief Bear earned her degree and her Juris Doctorate from the U of S College of Law in 2020. Every day I celebrate women.

Today I sat with some young women in Ahtahkakoop First Nation and reminded them of their inner strength, resiliency and independence.

I celebrate our young people every day.

I am proud to be a Nehiyaw Iskwew.

I thank Mother Earth for making life so beautiful and our Creator who protects us.

Driving home with gratitude and hope — Came to my home nation today for the MGBHLM youth powwow and was honoured for my accomplishments and perseverance. I wanna thank the elders, C&C, the youth, my relations, my family and powwow crew for their appreciation, effort and respect.

This road is not easy and to be acknowledged is a blessing and reminds me why I do this work❤️ I will keep going for all my ancestors who lived before me and the young ones who will guide and serve our peoples for the next generations - we are strong, resilient and capable of anything✊🏽

I cherish these moments where our youth are happy, smiling and laughing that’s my hope for the future. Anything for the children. Ekosi - have a good day everyone and stay warm❄️

Youth to Youth - Honouring Indigenous Peoples | HIP 20/01/2023

HIP is in search of 50 youths ages 15 to 18 from across Canada to participate in this innovative program & National dialogue aimed at peacebuilding & creating sustainable environmental change!

HIP is excited to announce the launch of its National Youth Truth & Reconciliation Experience, a unique Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) learning opportunity for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students in grades 9 to 12. This innovative initiative raises cultural awareness, promotes mutual understanding among youth across Canada on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and treaty relations plus ignites the need to create sustainable environmental transformation.

Youth will spend 4-days participating in a Ceremonial Gathering at Turtle Lodge providing Knowledge Keepers and Youth Leaders with the opportunity to present Indigenous spiritual leadership perspectives of the land. The intent of the Gathering is for First Nations Youth, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to share land-based knowledge, what healing means to us, and the meaning and practice of leadership.

Following the Traditional Spiritual and Ceremonial Protocols of the Turtle Lodge, this Gathering will begin each day in the Ceremony with the Lifting of the Sacred Pipes and the Water Ceremony. Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth will learn, through experience, ancestral ways of stewardship, and kindle in them a spiritual relationship with the land.

Learn gauntlet mitt making and porcupine quillwork in our upcoming workshops from Bonnie Masuskapoe.

Born and raised on Ahtahkakoop First Nation, Bonnie grew up going to powwows and round dances, where she first recalls seeing traditional beadwork adorning the dancers' regalia. She learned how to do beadwork from her mother, and sometimes in school, but it wasn’t until she was an adult that she started to seriously create. After immersive cultural experiences in Africa and on Manitoulin Island in Ontario with World Youth Canada, Bonnie began to appreciate her own Cree culture more. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, she started to learn how to make traditional objects like moccasins. She also started to experiment with her own style, and with using traditional designs on contemporary items.
