STATEMENT ON THE PASSING of Mr Timmy Kwebulana:
The office of the Ward Councillor extends its deepest condolences to the Kwebulana family, friends and the entire entertainment industry and the Langa community on the passing of veteran actor and musician, Mr. Timmy Kwebulana.
Born and raised in Langa Township, Mr Kwebulana was a towering figure in South Africa’s entertainment industry, renowned for his immense talent, dedication, and memorable performances. From his remarkable portrayal of characters in beloved TV shows such as “Aba Kwazidenge”, “Ingqumbo Yeminyanya”, “Unyana Womntu”, “Generations”, “Rhythm City”, “Forced Love” and “Isikizi”, he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many South Africans.
In the year 1975, Mr Timmy went to London with the musical “Kwa Zulu”. He performed in Zakes Mda’s plays such as “Dead End”, “We Shall Sing for the Fatherland” and many others at the Market Theatre.
He also appeared in the production “Somewhere on the Boarder”, a play about the South African Border War (1966-1989) piercing through the
amour of silence, secrecy and shame that surrounded this war.
His legacy will forever be etched in the rich history of South African television and
theatre.
We mourn with the Kwebulana family during this difficult time and honour the life of a
man whose contributions will not be forgotten.
May his soul rest in peace, and may the family find comfort in the outpouring of love and support from all those touched by his work and life.
Sincerely,
Councillor Lwazi Pakade - Ward 51

Today we donated ‘Soup’ kitchen material such as gas stoves and pots to the Urban Rural Development Project in Langa.
This project feeds over 150 people who are referred to the kitchen by the local hospitals, clinics and social workers some whom are on chronic medication. They run a targeted feeding programme which aims at giving relief to the old and frail.
Food security is a big concern for us as a community and the rising queues around ‘Soup’ kitchens in Langa show that there is a need for us as leaders to step and assist where we can.
We will continue to assist different feeding programs in the community to ensure that those who are struggling can be supported.

🏆 Civic Honours Ceremony: 6 December 2023 🏆
It is with great excitement to announce that Langa walked out with two of the prestigious awards awarded to members of the public in the City of Cape Town.
The most prestigious award, Civic Honours Award, was awarded to Brenda Nokuzola Fassie for her immense contribution to South African music, and her undeniable legacy as an activist and the Queen of African Pop.
Representing the Fassie family, Themba Fassie, said, “MaBrr was such a masterpiece of the illumination of greatness, transforming our understanding of life through lyric.”
The 2nd award, the Mayor’s Medal, was awarded to the Busy Bee Rugy Club in the category of Recreation and Sports for passion for the game of rugby and its development.
Busy Bees RFC was established in District Six in 1923 by migrant workers from the Eastern Cape. A fractured his history is a chapter within the larger tragedy of forced removals in Distric Six under the Group Areas Act.
It’s a story of survival and passion for the game of rugby under impossible circumstances which forced the Club to move to the Langa Township in 1937. The club celebrates their 100th Year Anniversary in 2023, one of their greatest milestone.
I would like to extend my felicitations to our community and most importantly to the family of Brenda Fassie and the Busy Bees RFC for these awards they received.
It gives us hope for a better future for the kids of Langa.
Sithi huntshu!
Councillor Lwazi Pakade - Ward 51
Brenda Fassie to be awarded the Civic Honours:
The City Council will today host the official ceremony to award exceptional Capetonians with Civic Honours for their significant contribution to society in Cape Town and the world.
Among the 13 recipients of this prestigious award is our very own Queen of African Pop who hails from the streets of Langa, Brenda Nokuzola Fassie. MaBrr was born in Langa on the 3rd of November 1964 and rose to prominence as a singer, songwriter and an activist.
The award will be presented posthumously in the presence of her son, Bongani Fassie, and the Fassie family.
While we believe that more still needs to be done to honour the legacy of Brenda Fassie in within Langa where she was born, we see this effort as a stride towards the right direction.
Congratulations Madlomo. Your legacy still lives on.
