To those contemplating the rehoming of a pet, this is not intended to cause shame or guilt, but rather to encourage thoughtful consideration.
It is essential to recognize that there is no ideal home where individuals magically acquire more time or resources. Similarly, there is no farmer in need of an untrained dog, nor is there a rescue organization with unlimited resources and time to devote to every dog.
The reality is that many well-behaved and loving dogs languish in shelters and foster care for extended periods, sometimes exceeding a year, without receiving any adoption applications.
Before resorting to rehoming, it is crucial to exhaust all available options and make every effort to ensure a successful and fulfilling life for your pet. This may involve seeking professional training, exploring alternative care arrangements, or addressing any behavioral challenges.
Remember, rehoming should only be considered as a last resort, and every effort should be made to find a suitable and loving home for your pet.

Parenting isnโt all or nothing you do it consistently through the day, throughout your childโs life. Dog training should be no different.
There is always time to train the dog.
Too often people believe it is an "all or nothing" approach to training. They are under the false impression that if they don't have 20-30 minutes of concentrated time to devote to training, they may as well not do it at all that day.
If that were the case, my dog would rarely get trained! ๐
Certainly if you have 20 - 30 minutes and can do that once or twice a day, that is FANTASTIC!! but if you don't have that much time available, make the most of the time you do have.
The key is to integrate training into your daily routine rather than making it a line item on your to-do list.
Have the dog wait every time you open the kennel dog so they learn not to charge out. And then have him/her sit every time you put the leash on and as you open the door to head outside together.
Practice a few doggie push-ups (Sit-Down-Sit-Down) while your waiting for the coffee to brew. And then make the pup remain on their place while you prep their breakfast.
Start your walk with a few minutes of heel, then allow the sniffari if you want to, but finish that final block to the house with the heel command again.
Have your dog remain on their Place or hold a Down while you eat dinner. And practice the off/leave it command when you load the dishwasher (unless you appreciate the dog doing the dish scrapping for you!)
You have to take care of the dog, which means there is always time to Train.
Change your thinking, then change the routine and pretty soon you will have changed your dog's behavior for the better.
No more excuses.

You may never want to show or compete with your dog, but yes you want perfection!
Focus on making the basics perfect. That is the mantra. I repeat in my head when it comes to dog training as well as everything else in life. We spent too much time looking at exploring difficult things without first perfecting the basics.
The focused heel is the basic of basics in dog training. It is also my very favorite exercise, the one I find the most beautiful, the most poetic, and the one that symbolizes the relationship between the handler and the dog. It is the one exercise you can do with a young puppy, while teaching him, and with a very old dog. It is the glue that cement the relationship Between the dog and human.
In my opinion, it takes forever to perfect this exercise and it is a skill you work on forever. Good thing I like doing it. ๐
So grateful to have Schmuley in my life. He is truly a godsend because he is infusing, joy, and fun back into my days. I love all of my dogs, and Shmuley is such a welcomed addition.
