Phage Therapy might be a Potential Therapeutic Strategy for Skin Diseases?

Nicole Natarelli (University of South Florida), Nimrit Gahoonia (Touro University) and Raja K Sivamani (University of California, Davis) recently reviewed the medical literature assessing phage dysbiosis and therapeutic trials in dermatology. Although studies are limited by low sample sizes and the omission of control groups in some trials, phage therapy seems promising for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis.

Dr. Sivamani will join the 14th World Congress on Skin Ageing & Challenges 2023 to further elaborate the relationship between phages & the skin microbiome. Do not miss his talk!

The twelve hallmarks of !

In their review published in Cell Press, Carlos López-Otín, Guido KROEMER, and their colleagues stated that aging is driven by hallmarks fulfilling the following three premises: their age-associated manifestation, the acceleration of aging by experimentally accentuating them, and the opportunity to decelerate, stop, or reverse aging by therapeutic interventions on them.

Do climate parameters contribute to skin aging?

Nidhi Singh et al., from the IUF-Leibniz Research Institute For Environmental Medicine and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, analyzed the association between skin aging traits and ambient temperature, relative humidity, and solar radiation.

Their obtained results showed epidemiological evidence of an association between long-term exposure to high ambient temperature/ relative humidity/ solar radiation and skin aging parameters, and that it might increase the effect of particulate and traffic-related air pollution on skin aging.

Welcome note

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the members of the scientific committee, we are pleased to welcome you to the 11th International Conference on Skin Ageing and Challenges which will be held on June 4-5, 2020 in Portugal. Skin Challenges 2020 is organized under the patronage of the International Microbiota Society (IMS) and the International Society of Antioxidants in Nutrition and Health (ISANH).

Ageing is an international issue that has social, economic and individual impacts. Preventing it and decreasing its side effects (all related pathologies) are major challenges for humanity. Thus the understanding of ageing and in particular skin ageing mechanisms will allow us to live longer, better and healthier.

During Skin Challenges 2020, the Scientific Committee will allocate significant time to discuss the latest advances related to skin homeostasis and ageing. Our objective is to provide answers and to give a future vision and trends on: how can the current researches delay the side effects of ageing and skin ageing?
