Are you aware when you are experiencing physical vs emotional hunger?
Getting to know your hunger cues is an important part of ending the cycle of emotional overeating.
If you are getting emotional hunger cues, we will give you tools and strategies so that you don’t follow through with these urges.
The primal (lower) part of the brain is in control of your vital functions like heart rate, breathing and body temperature. It is responsible for our survival instincts, safety and our fight or flight responses. It’s aim is to keep us alive and safe.
➡️When you experience a negative emotional state, your primal brain perceives this as a threat.
➡️The primal brain can't tell the difference between a harmless threat - like a stressful day at work or a life or death threat - the response and the feeling can be just as strong.
➡️At some point in your life, the primal brain has been wired to expect food when it senses a threat. It's learnt that food distracts and momentarily suppresses negative emotions which it perceives as a threat. Therefore, the habit of overeating to relieve negative emotions is created and wired into the structure of your brain. The primal brain falsely believes that excessive amounts of food is necessary for survival.
➡️The habit of overeating does not mean you are damaged, or that you are broken, your brain has just been wired to respond in an unsupportive way. We have the tools, experience and knowledge to support you to reprogram your mind so that you can let go of the habits that are deeply ingrained in your primal brain.

There is no denying that with our modern lives comes a raft of stressful responsibilities, demands and expectations.
Each person has different responsibilities, there may be work pressures, financial pressures, social pressures, difficult relationships, and cultural expectations that we should constantly be in productive mode.

Stress can also be caused by a circumstance of our emotional state, feeling lonely, not content, not feeling heard, not feeling desired or not feeling respected.
The mental stress and load on women is immense and a lot of work that we do for our family and friends is often unseen (think - grocery shopping list, children's appointments, house work, buying that gift for a birthday party, organising family get-togethers etc).
It is imperative that we take responsibility for things we can control including the way we respond to situations and stress because if we don’t find healthy ways to deal with our stress that is when we can experience urges to overeat.

How do your conditioned beliefs, habits and behaviors affect future generations?
➡️Our reason to end the cycle of emotional overeating was too important to ignore. We made a decision one day that we would do the work and show up for ourselves and our family.
➡️One of our biggest reasons was we didn’t want to pass our conditioned beliefs, habits and unsupportive behaviors onto our children and future generations.

When we find escape or pleasure in excess amounts of food at times of uncomfortable emotions, our brain registers this escape as a comfort.
As we know, the quick fix of using food to numb emotions seems to work in the short term, but only exacerbates the problem in the long term.
Those emotions remain unacknowledged or unprocessed.

Society has made some women believe that everything you want in life comes a lot easier when you are more beautiful or slimmer so therefore your self-worth is based on your image.
However, we feel that our goals and desires in life can be achieved when you are true to owning our self worth, taking care of yourself by nourishing and moving your body, prioritising yourself, setting healthy habits, creating a mindfulness practice that resonates with you and doing the inner work to let go of beliefs and conditioning that are holding you back. ✨✨✨✨✨
What are some of the positive experiences that you have had when you started to prioritise yourself and your health goals?
If you are anything like me you have spent years with the habit of overeating but have never considered what subconscious beliefs you hold.
➡️At a deep subconscious level, overeating - when life got challenging was part of who I thought I was.
➡️It was my default standard, the ‘set point’ on my thermostat that I always reverted back to, part of my identity.
➡️ I started over with a healthy eating routine, I stuck to it for a while, but sooner or later the belief that “I'm an overeater, I'm not one of those fit and healthy people” would creep back in and the cycle of self sabotage would start all over again.
➡️It wasn't until I dug deep and really realised what my subconscious beliefs were, that I was able to start shifting these beliefs and replacing them with new ones to create long term, permanent change and finally put an end to my overeating.
So what are some of the things I did to change my who I believed I was?
👉Firstly recognising the limiting belief, why I gained the belief in the first place and deciding it’s time to shift it once and for all
👉Created habits of the person I wanted to become. E.g meal prepping, journaling/observing when the urge to overeat arose. Over time these habits have become more and more effortless and are becoming just something I automatically do - part of my identity
👉Practicing affirmations around the person I wanted to become e.g “I prioritise eating well consistently”. “I process emotions/uncomfortable feelings” (instead of eating to escape them)
👉Visualising myself doing all of the above to further provide evidence of my new identity to my subconscious mind.

Our mind places more value on present rewards rather than future rewards. That is part of the reason that we emotional overeat, when we know excessive overeating is not good for our health.
