“Undas” is the second release of Brighter Light Brigade’s Filipino-themed project, Kapwa. Featuring Amanda Maestro as the 'apo' and Amy D (Amyliza de Jesus) as the 'lola', “Undas” is an educational song about how Filipinos celebrate their ancestors throughout this holiday.

Instrumentally, “Undas” again features an all-Filipino/a/x-crew crafting their music magic: Amanda Maestro-Scherer - vocals, Amyliza De Jesus - vocals, bass & co-producer, Raynier Jacob Jacildo - clavinet and vox, and Alexander Powell on drums and percussion. Joe Rodriguez provided the studio expertise as mixing/mastering engineer and co-producer.

The single is available today on bandcamp (sneak peek!), just in time to close out Filipino American History Month and usher in Undas!

“Kamayan” is the first release of Brighter Light Brigade’s Filipino-themed project tentatively called Kapwa.  Featuring LZA (musical shapeshifter Amyliza de Jesus), kindie fave Mista Cookie Jar, and introducing Amanda Maestro, “Kamayan” is Tagalog for “by hand,” and this song celebrates the traditional Filipino style of eating - together in community, without plates or utensils, but with your hands!

In “Kamayan,” LZA, Mista Cookie Jar and Amanda Maestro (all second generation Filipino-Americans born to immigrant parents) explore their favorite Filipino foods, their roots, and the sense of community that stems from sharing food and stories around the table.  This hip hop-inspired tune also celebrates the intergenerational ways Filipinx families share their culture from Lola (grandmother) to apo (grandchild).

Instrumentally, “Kamayan” features an all- Filipino crew: .dejesus, , , & playing traditional Filipino instruments: bamboo castanets, bungkaka, kulintang, and Tinikling bamboo poles.

You can find “Kamayan” today(!) on all major platforms, to coincide with the end of Filipino Food Month and the beginning of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Mabuhay!

We were thrilled to find out today that our songs “Fire Inside” and “Pancakes on Sunday Morning” are semi-finalists in the 2022 International Songwriting Competition! What an honor to be in the company of some of our favorite kindie artists 💗

The single is a punkish pop ditty about the specialness of summer coming to a close and the anticipation of the seasons to come - bringing us back to summer again.

Traveling Together is a collection of songs, like our EP out earlier this year, Feel It All, that are conversation starters for families about different emotions and experiences we all have. "See You in the Summertime" originally was inspired from the longing to be with loved ones that we all felt during the pandemic. As things have started to open, we all feel the excitement and hope of being reunited with family, friends, and places, too. The summer has always been and always will be a time of year when we get out of our routine, have fun adventures outside in the sunshine, and see special people we don’t get to see other times of the year. So, this song is about looking forward to that season – to seeing those certain people, having those adventures, and feeling that anticipation of the fun to come.

We are SO excited to be releasing this single, which features Mista Cookie Jar, Marla Vannucci, and Dean Jones, with the amazing children's label 8 Pound Gorilla Records.
