National Juvenile Championship Day 2
BRONZE For Cliodhna in the U15 RaceWalk 🥉
Another brilliant by performance by Cliodhna Ni Chonaill to claim a brilliant bronze in the U15 Race Walk at the National Juvenile championship in Tullamore today in a brilliant 10.49.
This is a just reward for all her hard work which started back last November adding to her U15 Siver medal from the National Juvenile indoor Championship earlier this year.
Big thanks to Pierce O'Callaghan of Tuam Athletics Juveniles for coaching Cliodhna and his hard work had its just rewards with a sizeable amount of silver wear being won by those in his Galway Racewalking group this weekend between the SIAB and the National All Ireland Championship aswell as the Super performances by his daughter Savanagh in the European U18 championship in Slovika this weekend.The crew all train together.
We thank Pierce for sharing his Racewalking knowledge to the Castlegar crew.
Big well done also to John Mc Dermott in the U17 100m who ran a brilliant 12.15 today.

Brilliant performance by Siún Ni Chonaill in the U14g 800m yesterday were she finished 12th overall. Amazing performance where 31 girls in total competed.

The details are out for the World Cross Country Tour which is coming to Galway on Saturday 28th September 2024 on Galway Race course.
Organised by Castlegar Athletics Club this year promises to be one of the biggest cross country events of the season and the first EVER Senior International Cross Country race ever held in Connacht!

U12 All Ireland
All IRELAND GOLD in Long Jump and a Three way tie for BRONZE for Mattiss Ozlins
Mattis Ozlins was in fantastic jumping form in Tullamore where he jumped a massive NEW PB of 4.65 to take the GOLD in the U12 Long Jump
Later in the afternoon Mattis was up again in the High Jump when he finished jumping he achieved a THREE way tie for BRONZE jumping a Massive 1.30.
Mattis has now taken the GOLD in both the Under 12 Boys Long jump in both the All Ireland Indoors and the All Ireland Outdoors some achievement at such a young age
U12 All Ireland
7th in All of Ireland for Ciara Murphy in the U12 60m
Ciara Murphy ran a blistering time of 8.87 to finish 2nd in her heat. Her heat was such a close call it had to be checked several few times to determine the lucky few that qualified for the Finals. Ciara was one of the those lucky few.
After a long wait and some serious nerves waiting for the heat results and even with the heat of the day Ciara ran another blistering race in the U12 final to finish 7th in a new PB of 8.79 a brilliant 0.08 sec improvement on her run earlier in the Day.
Big shout to Ciara every supporting family especially her brother Cormac as it was his birthday today. Happy birthday Cormac.
National Children’s Games
U11 Boys 600m
Finbar Sayar Salas and Ciaran Casey were also very nervous but after an inspirational chat by club Chairman Decky Madden both boys settled and ran the race of their lives.
Finbar Sayers Salad ran an outstanding 1.52 to finish 6th in his heat.
Ciaran Casey had an equally impressive race running a brilliant 1.58 to finish 9th in his heat.
We await official confirmation but from our rough math’s we believe they also finished 5th pair in All of Ireland.

U11 Girls 600m
Two very nervous and talented runners and camogie player pulled off the their best race every today in the U11 600m in Tullamore today.
Ruby Coyne was first up running a blistering 1.58 to finish 6th in her heat.
Ciara O’Doherty was next up and she pulled of her best race evey to finish 7th in her heat running a brillant 2 minute on the button
We await official confirmation but from our rough math’s we believe they finished 5th pair in All of Ireland.

Two Castlegar Ac Athletes were fortunate to
have the opportunity to compete in Morton Stadium today where they got the opportunity to compete in a 1k and a 2k race walk. They had the opportunity to walk alongside Ireland’s Brendan Boyce and Kate Vale who were attempting to get the last Olympic spot in the Mixed Relay Marathon taking place in Paris this summer. Unfortunately the Irish team didn’t qualify today by the two Castlegar athletes truly enjoyed the opportunity.

Our senior members, along with members from Tuam AC , Athenry AC, Clare River Harriers and Corofin AC enjoyed a marathon workshop given by Irish internatnational and Irish marathon champion Ann Marie McGlynn and Irish U23 International Grace Lynch from 11:11 coaching today.
The group learned about the various insights into marathon training throughout the morning. Ann Marie and Grace spoke about:

It was the turn of our U14 to Senior / Masters and one Under12
Under 12
Dylan Madden was flying it again today when he took on the Under 12 walk he walked superbly from the gun walking a super 5.51 to finish First claiming GOLD in the process and SMASHING the Under12 Connacht Outdoors Walks Championship record by 24 seconds
Under 14
Rachel Ryan was first up in the LJ jumping a super 3.66, Rachael also took on the 800 later in the day finishing in 2.57.
Emma Madden had a busy day her first event of the Day was the Shot Putt where she throw an amazing 6.55 to finish 6th in Connacht, Next she took on the Javelin where she throw a brilliant 12.70 Emma final event of the day was the highly competitive 2K walk where Emma walked a brilliant 11.41 to finish 6th in Connacht.
Rachel Duggan event of the day was the 1500M. Rachel ran super bravely had a super run to finish in 5.37 and 9th in Connacht
Suin Ni Chonaill had an absolutely prenominal 1500m race she started off well up the front and hung on there to finish in an impressive 5th in 5.18 and smashing her PB by 11sec.
U15
Elly Turner had another great performance today up against though competition in the Renton Twins but Elly hung on behind them to finish in a impressive 3rd place to take BRONZE in 5.11
Cliodhna Ni Chonaill also put in a fabulous performance in the U15 and was just piped on the last lap to finish SECOND to take the SILVER in 10.38 2sec behind the winner.
U17
Adam Bensmane took on the 400M where he ran a brilliant 59.82 to finish 4th, Adam also took on the 800m later in the day finishing in 2.18.
John MC Dermott took on the 100m and flew off the blocks to take SILVER in 12.01. John had an equally impressive run in the 200m where again he ran strong to finish in second taking home another SILVER in an impressive 24.7.
Seniors & Masters
Renier Botha was leaping for the sky again today where he smashed his Long Jump record with a new PB to jump a brilliant 5.52 to take GOLD and claim the MASTER Connacht Title.
Eoin Staunton also gave it everything again today in Senior men’s 800 where he ran a super 2.14 to take the SILVER medal
Best of luck to Athenry Juvenile A.C Sean Doggett who is due to compete this morning at 9.45 am in the 4 x 400 men’s relay.
It was only a few weeks ago that Sean was helping Castlegar and other athletes line up at Athenry Live.

Connacht Silver Medal winners
Historic Day ! 8 Connacht Medals headed home to Castlegar AC after Day 1 of the Connacht Outdoors
1 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze we haven’t had this level of success in quite some time at this stage.
Our Under 9 Girls
First up we had our Turbo champs Isabelle Grealish throwing 3.95 and Adaline Gullane 3.72 both girl where sick all week but truly enjoyed their trip to Claremorris finishing 6th pair overall.
Our under 9 Relay girls were next up. First of the block was Isabelle Grealish passing it to Adeline Gullane who passed to Nollag Tighe and she passed to Hana Fargj Gheziel. The girls ran a stormier and Hana F***j Gheziel ran a super leg gaining enormous ground helping the team to second in their heat fishing 7th overall.
In the 60m sprints Hana F***j Gheziel ran like the clappers finishing second in a time of 10.31in her heat and 5th overall. Isabell Grealish put in a great effort finishing in 11.59
In the 600 Hana F***j Gheziel ran an amazing race to finish 2nd in her heat in 59.51 and agonizing 4th overall by 0.19 of a sec.
Hana also ran a 4th time when she ran a stormier of a leg in the U10 girls relay.
Under 9 Boys
Ben Leahy was our sole Under 9 competitor and boy did he run a great race. He was off like a shot from the gun pushing hard all the way to line running to finish 3rd in his heat a new PB 9.95 4th overall.
Under 10 girls
Aoibheann Connolly was in brilliant form running a great 500 to finish 5th in her heat in 1.46.56
In the Under 10 relay we had Aoibheann Connolly, Aoife Connell , Hana F***j Gheziel and Loise Mc a Donagh all ran brilliant legs to finish 2nd in there heat 7th overall
Under 11 girls
The Scoil Mhuire Brierhil duo and camogie stars Ruby Coyne and Ciara O’Doherty where our under 11 600m pair and boy owe boy did they run a stormier. Ciara ran like a pro moving her way through the field to finish a brilliant 4th in her heat in 2.03.
In the next we heat we had Ruby Coyne who also paced herself perfectly also finishing 4th in 2.04.
Then when the full results were posted the girls started adding up there results and they realised there was a strong possibility of good pairs result and when the announcement of a brilliant SECOND in the pairs was made the were jumping with joy.
The girls are now through to the All Irelands in two weeks time
Scoil Mhuire Brierhill were well represented in the Long Jump too with Zara Calvey and Ruby Coyne Zara had a fabulous jump jumping 3.12 Ruby Coyne jumped a super 2.98 finishing a brilliant 5th pair overall. Some jumping girls.
U11 Boys with 2 pairs teams in this or hopes where high.
In the first heat we had speedy Ciaran Casey and Matthew Casserly. Ciaran was sick all week and both him and Matthew ran brilliant and they were changing places through out the race with Matthew winning out to finish 3rd (11th overall ) in his heat in 2.0195 with Ciaran (13th overall ) hot on his heal in 4th in 2.0373.
In the second heat we had Adam Carr who also ran a brilliant race to finish 4th in his heat in 2.03.56. (12th overall)
In the final heat we had Finbar Sayer Salas. Finbar came up specifically from Lough Key in Roscommon where he was Zipling on a camp with Renmore Cubs who had an early rise of 6am and despite very little sleep and two hours of Zipling he still pulled of great race to finish 3rd in his heat in 1.52 and 3rd overall to take an individual BRONZE.
The boys waited patiently for the pairs results to be compiled and then the announcement was made where Finbar and Ciaran finished a suburb 2nd overall to take SILVER in the pairs qualifying them for the All Irelands and Matthew and Adam were 5th pair.
We also had a pair in the U11 Turbo and both Sean Botha and James Ryan gave a great account of themselves throwing 12.73 and 8.96 respectively
U12 Girls
Ciara Murphy was our sole U12 girl and ran a Pb of 8.83 to win her heat and to finish 3rd Overall taking home the BRONZE.
U12 Boys
Mattis Ozlins was first to start off with the High Jump and took a brilliant SILVER with a jump of 1m 35. He was bang on form in the Long Jump with a brilliant jump of 4.34 to take GOLD. In the 60M Mattis was unlucky to false start twice and was unfortunately disqualified.
Speedy Ethan McGinty was in flying form were he ran a brilliant race to finish second in his heat in a time of 8.92(a new PB), and a brilliant 5th overall
Mount Everest climber Culann Conroy ran a brilliant 60m in a time of 10.36.
In the 600M first up was Felix Stapleton who ran a smart race working his way through the field to finish 4th in his heat in 1.56.52.
William Duggan had an equally good race finishing a brilliant 3rd in his heat in 1.57.92 running in the same heat as the ultimate winner Philip Griffith. William also tried his hand the Turbo javelin on the day.
As with all clubs this brilliant day could not have been possible without our super volunteer officials.

Rob Lennon was in smashing form being the first Castlegar runner on the night in a fabulous 8th place in 16.56, next in was Adrian Grogan 17.39 then Liam Ruddy in 17.42 then Oliver Gresiti and Terance Grogan, Stephen Boyle John Connolly and Michael O’Domhaill
Loughrea
Eoin Staunton had a great run finishing 2nd in 17.40, next in Adrian Grogan in 6th in 17.49, 7th for Noise Metager in 18.00 on a return to form we had Frank King in 18.13, fine runs by Stephen Casserly, Liam Ruddy, Oliver Gresiti, Derek Mc Dermot, Terance Grogan and Stephen Boyle
Maree
Derek Mc Dermot was first Castlegar home in 20.10 followed by Stephen Boyle, Oliver Gresiti and Pascal Silke all of whom had fine runs

Track and Field live Athenry - Castlegar Ac Take over
A gang of nearly 50 Castlegar Athletes made the short trip out the road to Athenry Juvenile A.C track to take part in Track in Field Live Athenry and a great time was had by all.
We had by far the largest club representation on the night and great fun was had by all
The excitement was rif by Our under 8 who had the opportunity to take part in their first official race and it was great to see that the ran like pros.
Everyone had an absolute ball despite the cold evening

The clubs Race Walking squad were honoured to have the New Zealand 🇳🇿 Champion Arnika Nelson training with the group yesterday on Glass Avenue along with expert coaching from 3 time Irish 🇮🇪 Olympian Jamie Costin.
Arnika is the daughter of two Olympians and competed in the World Race Walking Team Championships in Turkey a few weeks ago.
She will spend the summer training and racing in Ireland and is planning to race the Connacht Senior Championships in Athlone in June

TWO Firsts And a brilliant 4th
Adam Bensimine finished an impressive 6th in the 800m in a time of 2.15 representing Coláiste Iognáid
Brilliant performance by Elly Turner who ran an impressive 5.06 to claim First in the Minor Girls 1500m representing Coláiste na Coiribe
Emma Madden had a brilliant Walk to take First in the Minor Girls 1200m representing Coláiste Bhaile Chláir
Cliodhna Ni Chonaill representing Colaitste Na Coirbe also walked impressive 6.37 in the Junior girls 1200m finishing a brilliant 4th outstanding considering the three girls in front of her are all 1 year older and were all in top three in the All Ireland U16 indoor walk in March and she was sick earlier this week. Watch this space this lady will go places in this event.
Cliodhna somehow managed to find enough energy to take on the 1500m race later in the day and she had a great run

Speed Mattis Ozlins was quick of the spot claiming gold in 8.80 to take GOLD, Ethan McGinty was equally impressive despite being under the weather he finished 7th overall in a brilliant 9.35, Tomas Grogan and Culann Conroy also had fine runs in the sprints

6 though lads took on the 600m William had a class race to finish 5th overall in a time of 1.56, Tieren Lee was right on his heels finishing 6th overall in 1.57, and Felix Stapleton 7th in 1.58, Ethan Mc Ginty Cian Corbett and Dylan Madden also had fine runs

Another Championship record was shattered again with Mattis Ozlins jumping a massive 4.52 to claim another GOLD
