Trust me, it matters

As a new VA I just wanted clients so I could get paid. Dassit 🤷🏽‍♀️

I didn't think about HOW I wanted to be paid so let me be the one to tell you...

Work with the clients that put your invoice on autopay!

It was so stressful having to nag clients about past due invoices and wondering when they would pay me. It was frustrating, annoying, and I really started to dislike the work that I was doing. After a lot of trial and error (and clients that just weren't a good fit for me), I realized this was something that I needed to implement not only for my sanity but also to attract higher quality clients.

When your invoice is on autopay this is a great sign that their business is stable, which means you'll be paid consistently and on time and you can create the systems you need in order to thrive as a full-time VA.

If you're doing this, STOP!

One way I've found amazing clients is using platforms like Indeed and Monster, and 9 times out of 10 the positions listed on those sites will want your resume.

As a former Human Resource Manager who has screened hundreds of resumes, if you're sending the same resume to every position you apply for you're making a huge mistake.

Clients want to see that your history and experience are related to the position they're hiring for. You should be tweaking your resume to fit each and every position you apply for,

Doing this can absolutely be time-consuming, but your application needs to grab their attention from the start or it'll be tossed!

While I'm a big believer that hindsight is 20/20 and we don't know what we don't know... there IS one thing I wish I'd known when I was first starting out with going full-time as a VA... and that's using multiple strategies to find clients.⁠

⓵ 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵. You can't just send a random email with no strategy and no plan. You have to do research on your potential client to identify areas that you may be able to support them in. They'll feel like you're speaking DIRECTLY to their needs.⁠⁠⁣

⓶ 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀. The offers that you send with your pitches should be customized according to the research that you did in #1. Once you identify their gaps, send them a pitch specifically addressing where you can help them and how you can help them.⁠⁠⁣

My schedule literally consisted of:
🐟 Eating fresh-caught fish and drinking straight from coconuts
🚲 Wandering the town & getting to know the locals
💻 Checking emails
🏊🏽‍♀️ Swimming in waterfalls
😴 & sleeping in

This was one of the best trips I've ever taken one, because my fiance surprised me with the trip.

But two, this was my first real taste of traveling while working!

My job let me travel abroad and take my work with me and my mind was blown 🤯 I had never heard about working online or even a digital nomad life before, but I knew I needed MORE OF THAT!

It's still hard for me to believe that I've actually given myself that freedom to travel and make consistent money at the same time.

Next on my travel list is a solo trip to San Francisco!

You don't know everything.

As a new VA it's easy to fall into the overwhelm of feeling like you should know everything.

There are hundreds of different programs & software & skills you can have, but the #1 skill that 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 VA needs to have is: 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀!

From working with clients and holding discovery calls, being resourceful as a VA is the best skill to have, even if clients aren't aware of this themselves.

3 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝘀:
1️⃣ Ask for feedback. Your clients will 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 the fact that you want feedback. This will give you the information you need to make adjustments to better perform your tasks.

2️⃣ Do the research. Honey... Google needs to be your best friend! If there is something you don't know, Google it, YouTube it, get the basic information you need to get a task done. Ask your VA network, as your coach, and TRY.

3️⃣ Be a 'figure-outer'. This is similar to doing the research, but you now have to take it upon yourself to figure things out. When I was unsure of why my posts weren't formatting correctly in my client's FB group, I created my own test group to create and publish posts and I figured it out!

✨The very first thing I like to do in the morning is make a cup of tea 🍵

The way that I start my mornings ☀️ really set the tone for the rest of my day and I DEFINITELY have noticed the change. I haven't always been a morning person, but I received some advice that has stuck with me for years and changed the way I tackled my mornings:

'Find that thing that excites you and makes you want to get out of the bed in the morning'

For me, this is being excited about jumping in to my work and enjoying a really good cup of tea. I am a tea hoarder 🤷🏾‍♀️ but having so many teas to choose from in the morning just make me super happy 😂

What's something that makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning?

I have to admit... 🙈

I have a habit of getting ahead of myself, which is why I have to take time to slow down and reflect on things 🤔 Last month was an extremely busy month for me, but I learned a lot of really good lessons.

One huge lesson I learned is that being a GOOD FIT matters in my business. I love that my clients and I have great relationships where we are free to give and receive feedback, make suggestions, and chat as if we’ve been friends for years 🥰

Now I know exactly what to look for in my clients, and I know when to turn down those that just may not be a good fit FOR ME 💯

What are some lessons that you’ve learned last month?
