A choppy little sea of stools..

A moment and a Millenia. Here a passing moment of sunlight illuminates one of our rare Kauri stools, which in turn contains and radiates thousands of years of sunlight. Our work is less about designing new things than about curating old things, the shaping and presenting of natural history, passing it on into the future.

The light was magnificent today, so we had to do an impromptu photo shoot with our star, the Sphere.

Three stools, three Millennia old.
3000 years ago they were seeds, saplings, standing Giants, then fallen Giants, buried in the coastal swamps of New Zealand long before humans arrived. Now risen to the surface, we are stewards of a small amount of Kauri stumps, and are preserving them in clean timeless designs in limited editions, and passing on these remarkable artefacts.

A singularity of sorts.
I kept looking at this gnarly complex piece of Kauri, time and time again, and felt when I wasn’t observing it, it was observing me. Eventually we came to terms with each other, and reached an interesting agreement. This bench.

A wonderful Wandergeselle! Florian is an Austrian Journeyman, a traditional craftsman dedicated to a three year working journey to hone and expand his craft, and by wandering into the workshop he is now expanding ours. So glad to have you Flo! Journeymen and Journeywomen are rare these days, if you spot one don’t hesitate to offer a ride or a bed or a job.

Meet the Maker… The only thing more satisfying than finishing a piece is the pure joy of finishing a whole collection. Our head of design and maker of sawdust mountains Jon Lister warmly invites you to join him at our Georado exhibition for makers talks, discussing the love and logic behind working with the oldest wood in the world.

The exhibition runs until February 26th and a Midissage will take place on February 10th (starting at 6pm).

It was wonderful to share some GO objects and prints by our NZ designer and artist Heather Hunt at the Xmas Market in Dorfhain.
A perfect opportunity for GO designer/maker Jon Lister to catch up with other makers and locals from his community in Germany.
