I will be taking a break from esthetics for a while. I love what I get to do and all of the people I’ve gotten to meet in this journey. Right now I need to focus on life stuff and hopefully come back better. It’s not goodbye, just see you later!

Let’s discuss:

❌ Oily skin DOES need to be moisturized. Moisturizer helps regulate oil production. Not using moisturizer can lead to an overproduction of oil.
🩷 Acne is not curable. But acne IS maintainable. Having a solid skincare routine with the right products can help keep your breakouts under control.
❌ Acne is NOT caused by bad hygiene. Acne is triggered by many factors, and although it’s true that poor hygiene can prevent your skin from clearing, acne is not an indicator of bad hygiene. Acne is a disorder of the hair follicles and sebaceous (oil) glands.
❌ SPF does NOT cause cancer! SPF helps PREVENT skin cancer. If you’re afraid of the ingredient benzene that is often in chemical sunscreen, opt for a mineral sunscreen.
🩷 This one is sadly true if you are prone to having hormonal acne. Androgens in milk products can lead to an overproductions of sebum which can triggers acne breakouts.
❌ Biotin is widely popular for being great for skin, hair, and nails. But sadly, us acne-prone folk are at risk for more breakouts. Biotin consumption can lower Vitamin B5 levels, which are good keeping your skin barrier balanced. Other supplements you can use for healthy skin are high-quality Omega-3 supplements, Lysine, and Zinc.
🩷 Benzoyl peroxide is commonly used to treat acne. It has an antiseptic effect and reduces the bacteria on your face. AND it’s pregnancy safe, so don’t worry about cutting it out of your routine.
❌ Toothpaste is NOT good to use as a spot treatment. The minty burn might feel like it’s doing something, and might temporarily dry out the breakouts, but really it would do more harm. Most toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which can clog pores, so you don’t want to be putting that on your face.
🩷 After you start using a new product that’s meant to target acne, you might notice your skin breaking out more, so you freak out and stop using it. However, this is usually something called purging. This is your skin’s natural reaction to the acne-fighting ingredients that trigger rapid cell turnover. So the breakouts you’re seeing are really just your skin trying to push out all the bad to make room for the good!

Enzyme peels use fruit enzymes to lower the skin’s pH level to loosen the cells that bind dead and healthy skin together. These peels reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging, without being as aggressive as a chemical peel. Both are great options, however enzymes peels are a great introduction to peels. I recommend trying one before a chemical peel, especially if you haven’t been a regular facial client before!
