Title: โDeath & Beyond: A Practitionerโs Missionโ by Sis Sylvia Bay
In this final installment of the 3-part Death and Beyond series by Sis Sylvia Bay, we finally start to realize the importance of this practice and why it is crucial we live our lives in accordance with the Dhamma at every moment, and why it would be to our detriment if we don't. Also finally, we learn the ultimate power of the Buddha's teaching, that it is potent enough to take us out of rebirth completely.
Registration to come to BF West Centre is FULL. However, we humbly invite you to join us on Facebook Live for the Dhamma talk by Sis Sylvia Bay this Sunday, 13 Dec. NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE STREAMING.
The talk is broadcast LIVE from BF West Centre to Buddhist Fellowshipโs Facebook at 10:30 am SG Time (GMT+8) and to be uploaded at BF YouTube at a later date.

Merits: Transforming Mind and Life by Sylvia Bay
In the Chinese tradition, the 7th lunar month is the time when we make offerings to our departed ones. What did Buddha actually say in regards to the plight of the departed and as relatives and friends what can we to help them that is beneficial to them and ourselves? Sylvia Bay offers a short reflection and a reading of the Tirokuแนญแนญa Sutta Kp 7 - The Beyond the Walls Discourse. And we can share merits anytime.

giyฤnฤซ Sutta AN 5.195 by Sylvia Bay.
๐ญ๐ณ (๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ก๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฐ, ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฎ)" was given by Sis Sylvia Bay at the invitation of Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society (BDMS) via zoom meeting on 14 August 2020. This is the edited and annotated version.
Acelakassapa Sutta SN 12.17 traced how ascetic Kassapa who was practising extreme mortification where nakedness was part of the practice, was awakened by the Buddha. Sis Sylvia Bay deciphered the cryptic nature of the conversation between Buddha and Kassapa, where Buddha replied, "It is not that I do not know and see suffering, Kassapa. I know suffering, I see suffering." where Buddha used conditionality to trigger Kassapa's awakening. In the same manner, Sis Sylvia highlighted why we are shackled by dukkha and yet, there is non-self.

Dawning of Dhamma - Sylvia Bay
The realisation of Dhamma is like sunrise. You start out in pitch darkness. You see nothing. You are clueless. Your ignorance makes you blind.
When you start to practise along the correct path, and understanding grows, the darkness that envelops your mind will begin to fade. Dhamma concepts begin to make some sense. You know you may not have gotten it but you know enough to be able to tell what is or is not Dhamma. Just as you can make out the forms and shapes enough to avoid the dangers and troubles, when dawn's first light start to cast faint, weak glow upon the land and dissipate the shrouding darkness.
At some point, as your understanding of Dhamma matures, every concept that once perplexed you will start to make sense. Their place in the whole teaching, their role, their purpose, their meaning, will all become clear. The process of realisation is literally like the dawn of a new day: the whole landscape of reality is now bathe in the light, clear, obvious and beautiful.
Just as you cannot exactly pinpoint when night turns to dawn, you may not be completely sure when Dhamma has truly taken root in an irreversible way. But you will know when it is day break. That the night is past and the sun has arisen.
