Match report 03/02/24

Shotton V North East sports youth gunners

Started the game very strong today and dominated from the off, they struggle to deal with us and didn’t get into our half at all, a free kick was awarded and Ben stepped up to take it, unlucky for him it hit the post and came out and we couldn’t convert, the ball did drop to Harry and he took a belter shot from around 20 yards out and the keeper had no chance and it dropped in to make it 1-0, he then took another wonder strike which hit the post and dropped in to make it 2-0. It then went to Harry again and today was his day every time he took a shot it went in but did save the best till last when another wonder strike left the keeper still looking for the ball and took us into half time 3-0.

Second half was pretty much the same a couple of half chances for them but Joe was on the ball and sharp off his line to make some great saves and put them under pressure, again we had plenty of chances ourselves and there keeper made some excellent saves to keep them in the game. It should have been 4-0 but a very very dodgy referee decision said it wasn’t over the line even though the keeper had to get a rake to get the ball out the net, blame Michael Lowis as he had one job and again let the lads down, poor Finn as it was upto now goal of the season.

MOTM was difficult and Harry probably should have got it after scoring a hat trick but every single one of them grafted all game today so went to the team!

As always a massive shout out to the sponsors as without there generosity none of this is possible.Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies and new sponsor of our training kit Anwen Construction again thanks very much for making the lads look the part.

P.S - we must have the roughest looking lot haha.

Match report 27/01/24.

Today we headed over to Sherburn for what we knew would be a tough tight end to end game if the home fixture was anything to go by, the game started off with us on the back foot struggling to play our football in the cow field, we did have half chances but it was Belmont who broke us down eventually after some last ditch defending and them hitting the post they did score just before the break to find ourselves going into the break at 1-0 down.

The message to the lads at half time was go and give it your all and with a few changes we looked very dangerous going forward, and within minutes of the restart a lovely ball through to Sonny he latched onto the end of it and calmly took it round the keeper to slot it home and get us back into the game 1-1. Shortly after a goal from them found Sonnys head and Charlie was on his toes to get on the end of it with a lovely volley finish 1-2. From then we went through the gears and looked very dangerous going forward every time Ben coming close with a lovely effort and a fine save from their keeper, then Finn forcing one of the best saves I have seen any young keeper make from a free kick. But Sonny as relentless as ever did manage to fix the defence and a mixup at the back he got the second for him of the day, credit to Lewis today who stepped up and put the gloves on for us and without him in the sticks today it could have been a closer game than it was 1-3. We did force another free kick very late on and again Finn stepped up and got the goal he deserved and we saw the win out at 1-4.

Not just saying this but today is probably the best I have seen the lads play in a long time, drove forward together as unit, defended together as a unit and most importantly had each others backs and grafted for each other, it was an absolute pleasure to coach and watch today.

MOTM was a tough one today as anyone could have got it but we did give it to our vice captain Robbie, won every tackle, kept his head and played some lovely balls through to the lads up top well done mate, (to get a picture was the hardest bit I did manage to get one so if he looks in pain this was the best one 😂😂😂)

As always the most praise goes to our sponsors the continued support is immense and certainly does not go unnoticed, Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies.

Back to home action next week if your at a loose end the lads take on North east gunners ag wellfield with a 12pm kick off, would be nice to see you all there.

Match report 16/12/2023.

Game started very fast from the opponents as we thought it would but the lads held on strong and defended really well, they did eventually break us down and got the first to make it 1-0, the second was a rocket with where no keeper would have saved it and then it went to 3-0. Our boys did not stop all game and managed to get it back to 3-1 before the break when Finn got on the end of a beauty free kick from Lucas and put it through the keepers legs.

The messsage at half time was just to go out and give it a go and leave everything on the pitch and boy did they do that. We set off like a steam train and pressured them from the off, if we could finish our chances we would have been clear and out of sight but that’s football and these things happen. They did hit another rocket again Lewis has no chance of saving to make it 4-1, Jake’s persistent battling and got it shot away which there keeper saved but Charlie was on hand to slot it home to make it 4-2. They did manage to find away through towards the end of the game to make it 5-2 and that’s how it finished, the scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the game there was only one team in it second half and that was us! Harry keeping us from not getting any further behind too with a heroic goaline clearance right at the death. Great battling from the boys today and none stop attitude made me the proudest coach in the north east today!

And that’s a wrap for the year for the lads, I would personally like to thank all the parents for their support this year, the transition from 7v7 to 9v9 is a huge jump but they have took it in their strides like a duck to water. There is far too many to mention individually but you all know who you are.

Again huge thanks to our sponsors again without them none of this is possible Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies, we look forward to working with you in 2024!

Your man of the match today went to Lewis made several cracking saves and did a job for us by going in goal at last minute. Well done mate tremendous today!

25/11/2023

Match report 25/11/23.

Well what can I say from today definitely a game of 2 halves.

Game started and within 7 minutes found ourselves 3-0 can only say the lads were still asleep, but that gave them the bit between their teeth’s and and to start playing our football. Sonny getting the ball and playing through to the on running Finn who comfortably slotted it through the keepers legs to get us off the mark 3-1, after some last ditch defending we cleared our lines and reached Sonny from a clearance from Lewis and Sonny put it over the on rushing keepers head to get us rite back into the game 3-2, the half time whistle went shortly after this and it was all to play for.

Message at half time was go out and give it a go, and by god both teams did not disappoint.

We again struggled to clear our lines and found ourselves 4-2 down, but the warriors we are we kept playing and got back into the game with goals from Reggie and Sonny but again Beamish took every chance they had and got us pegged back and took the lead 5-4, some changes made and freshened it up, Jake playing a beauty ball into Lucas who slotted home to get us back level at 5-5. Within the dying minutes Jake got taken down and the free kick was a quick one and found its way to Finn who knocked the ball into the on running Harry who slotted it home with 10 seconds to spare and it’s saw the home crowd and players go berserk including the coaches! I’m sure they trying to give us coaches a heart attack but what a game to watch fantastic from start to finish!

Some outstanding performances from every lad today who all played a part and battled till the sheer end! Full time Shotton 6- 5 Beamish.

MOTM could have gone to several but went to Jake outstanding today strong in tackles and outstanding on the wing knocking dangerous balls in all the time, well done mate!

As always special thanks to our sponsors who without all of this wouldn’t be possible Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by all!

Match report 11.11.23.

Before a ball was kicked and both teams honoured a minutes silence for our fallen heroes. Brilliant from both teams!

Shotton started off like a steam train and pressed high from the off, we won a corner and a beauty ball in from Charlie dropped to Sonny and the keeper made a beauty save, but Harry was there to poke it home for us to take the lead. We carried on with the high pressing and tempo, and they managed to break clear and catch us out on the counter to make it 1-1, Shotton continued with the high tempo and pressing and Sonny hit a rocket to knock it over the keepers head and take us into the break 2-1.

We asked the lads to dig deep and give a big effort at half time and that’s what they did, with just 9 there all of them played there hearts out. The second half was pretty much the same as the first with some excellent football played by our lads! Thornley pressed us hard in the second half and we had to dig deep at times but we did just that, a very soft penalty was given and they slotted it home to make it 2-2. The game was played in good spirit and as we pressed hard Thornley handled it just outside of the area, I told Ben to take it and boy did he do that he hit a rocket of a shot that no keeper would have saved and smashed it into the top corner! What a strike and that was how the game ended 3-2 win for us.

Massive credit to the lads there this morning with the bare bones they gave it there all, the lads that missed today will be back next week and make us stronger again!

As always huge shout out to our sponsors, without the generosity none of this would be possible! Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunniesAnwenConstruction!

MOTM could have gone to several today but it went to Ben grafted all day hard and scored a beauty well done mate.

04/11/2023

Match Report 04/11/23

We started off very quick this morning moving the ball around very well and looking like a threat every time we went forward, Durham couldn’t get out of there half and with about 15 mins gone Charlie broke through and was taken down in the box and a penalty awarded, Charlie stepped up and comfortably put it away to give us the lead 1-0. We gave too much of the ball away after that and got lazy and sloppy, a mix up at the back gave them the chance they needed and put it passed the keeper to take it back to 1-1. We did press and go again till half time with several shots from Sonny, Reggie, Finn, Jake and Lucas but couldn’t score, Joe on his toes as always kept us in the game when we did switch off and allow them in. Half time 1-1.

At half time I asked the boys to calm the ball down and play our football as they couldn’t contain us when we played. Shortly after the break Sonny chased down from there kick off and the keeper made a cracking save but Reggie was on hand to pick up the pieces and give us the lead 2-1, shortly after Lucas broke through and slotted it home to make it 3-1. We did allow Durham the ball when we couldn’t clear our lines and they managed to get into the game for a while 3-2. Lucas then picked up the ball from a clearance and I still say and so does he that it was a cross but a cracking goal from around 35 yards out to make it 4-2, the coaching team did have to remind him he scored as he ran away without a smile on his face and a certain contender for goal of the season! Again we kept pressing and Finn chased down a loose ball to make it 5-2. We all thought that was it and the game put to bed but again we showed them too much of the ball and allowed them to score in the dying minutes 5-3. We did however hang on and and get the win which was well deserved, there was only one team on the pitch all game and should never have gave them 3 goals but we will take the 3 points!

MOTM could have gone to a few today, it was given to Mr Rooney he looked calm on the ball and cleaned up well when needed!

As always massive thanks to our sponsors, their generosity allows all of this to happen Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies. Thanks again!

Next week is the local derby against Thornley, at the home of football Le Stade de Recreation, as much support as possible wouldn’t go a miss to watch this feisty affair take place.

Match report 27/10/23.

Never seen rain like it tonight and waited till the game was about to kick off, monsoon season has hit Wingate folks! Game started off very slow from us and allowed Easington far too much time on the ball, we pressed hard and tried our best but before we knew it we were 3 down. We pushed hard into half time and started playing our football within the last 5 minutes and kept them at bay. Ben hit a strike from just inside his own half and any other day would have flew in and been goal of the season but there keeper made a cracking save to keep them 3 ahead into the break.

Half time came and we asked the lads to dig deep and be first to the ball, we made a few changes and changed formation to keep us in the game and not allow them as much time on the ball and it worked we played some good stuff and the lads had the fire in their belly to get goals, unfortunately they did break through from a mistake at the back and scored again. But our lads never gave up and came back stronger than ever winning tackles and battling hard for every ball, Charlie got the ball and played a lovely 1 2 with Finn who squared it to Charlie and he stroked the ball goal wards for there defender to handle it and us to awarded a penalty, Finn stepped up and there keeper again made a blinding save, we didn’t however play doing through and the gazelle he is got the ball first and took it round there keeper to slot it home very comfortable, now we were back in the game shortly after Jake weaved his way through most of there team and put it passed there keeper to his far side he had no chance, we pressed and pressed but couldn’t do anymore.

MOTM tonight went to Sonny never gave up and battled all game, well done mate!

Tremendous effort by all tonight in horrible weather, consolation was we won the second half 2-1.

Saturday 14th October.

Game started off really well this morning boys playing a lot of good stuff and got the lead early on when Sonny took the ball out of his feet and rifled it home 1-0, we made a few changes and let them back into the game shortly after 1-1, the lads couldn’t really play football a lot as the pitch looks like a cow field due to the amount of football it’s had played on it. We tried our best to play but lost the ball and they broke away to take the lead 1-2. The boys battled hard and in the last seconds of the first half a tremendous ball in by Reggie and Finn got his head to it with a beauty header to take us in to the break level 2-2.

We spoke to the boys and told them to play football and get the ball out wide and they did, we created a lot of chances and somehow just couldn’t find the net, give Belmont there due they came at us and gave it there all, some real good performances out on the pitch today and some good contenders for MOTM, but in the end it went to Reggie was solid at the back all game and a lovely ball into Finn to set up the goal, match ended 2-2 and was a good game to watch.

Massive get well soon to Joe too our GK who unfortunately missed today due to Covid, speedy recovery mate and get you back soon, huge thanks to Lewis who again stepped in the sticks today and had an excellent game.

As always massive thanks to our sponsors who we can’t thank enough and the lads wear there sponsorship with pride. Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies.

Saturday 7/10/23.

Early start for the boys this morning with a trip to South Shields, the pitch wasn’t in the best of conditions and it was touch and go if it would be on but the ref allowed it to happen.

Started off pretty shaky and if it wasn’t for Lewis at the back making some last ditch defending we could of been a few down, we did eventually settle down and play football the ball broke and Sonny found himself one on one with the keeper and he took it round him very comfortable to put us in the lead, Shields did press us hard again and before we knew it we were level 1-1. We started playing football from the kick off and soon after Sonny again a huge threat upfront for them notched another two to takes us into the break 3-1 up. Half time 1-3.

At the break we told the lads to keep playing the ball through to Sonny and make sure we’re first to every ball n tackle, they kicked off and with 3.5 seconds found ourselves starting the game again when we let there lad skip through us 2-3. We did press hard and changed a few things around Sonny broke through and put it across the keeper who managed to get a touch on it & Charlie chased and slotted it in very calmly from a very tight angle 2-4, again we went forward with Finn n Reggie creating problems a ball into the box saw there lad handle and awarded us a penalty, Finn stepped up and slotted home very calm putting the keeper the wrong way 2-5. A lovely knock on from Charlie to play Sonny through saw him make it number 4 for the day. We did make allow them one more goal when we tried to slide tackle and it went wrong and all credit to their lad he placed the free kick into the bottom corner, full time 3-6 to the colts.

Some very good individual performances today and hard to pick a MOTM so it went to Lewis and Sonny, Lewis a rock at the back and made some excellent tackles and Sonny a threat every time the ball was played to him and scored 4 very good goals.

Massive shout out to our sponsors who without there support we would not look as good as we do weekly Signature Aesthetics by PaulaCK Electrical ServicesJoe's bunnies.

One last shout to the parents for the early start this morning, it does not go unnoticed and thanks again!

Saturday 23rd. Cup first round

Shotton colts V Boro sports academy.

Following the first game and us coming away with a heavy defeat the lads had a lot to show and boy did they do that. Game started very quick from us and pressed high, the ball dropped to Charlie who played a lovely ball through to Sonny who spotted the keeper coming off his line and slotted it passed him Coll as ice into the corner, we kept up the momentum and pressed creating plenty of chances and coming close on several occasions. Boro came at us and we held our own the ball dropped to them and a mix up at the back they got back level with a couple of minutes of the half left, half time 1-1.

At half time I asked for another massive 30 minutes from the lads and they didn’t disappoint, Sonny as relentless as ever pushed them back which they couldn’t deal with and 2 of them rugby tackles him to the ground, penalty to us and Sonny sent the keeper the wrong way, 2-1 to us, we conceded a corner shortly after and cleared it well but in the mix of it all we did give a free kick away just outside the box and their kid hit a thunderbolt which bounced off the post (think it’s still shaking), Lewis made about 2000 saves until it dropped to them and bat and in, in the middle of all of it Lewis unfortunately took a nasty kick to the foot and had to come off, up stepped super Reggie who had played a blinder at the back in the first half and said “I’ll go in” and away he went, playing some cracking stuff and making some excellent saves just like Lewis 2-2, we lost another 2 players due to injuries and unfortunately had to finish the game battered and brusied and players playing out of position which cost us a further 2 goals in all of it. Take nothing away from today though the boys grafted and played out of their skins which is all I ask for, tremendous effort and coming away 2-4, good luck to Boro in the cup.

MOTM was a tough one but it went to Reggie, rock solid at the back and stepped up in goal and played cracking in the sticks too!

Special mention to our sponsors as without them none of this would be possible, Signature Aesthetics by Paula, CK Electrical Services & Joe's bunnies, your support is appreciated.

Shotton colts v Pools youth.

Boys started very slow this morning and couldn’t really get the break, we the fell asleep in defence and didn’t clear out lines which have Pools the first goal of the game 0-1. The boys dug deep and had several chances but just couldn’t find the net, straight from the pressure the ball fell to their lad who ran through on goal and scored 0-2. We made a few changes and the boys peppered there goal again and the ball dropped to Reggie who slotted it home calmly to get us back into the game just before the break 1-2. The ball dropped to them again with a couple of quick chances and if it wasn’t for super Joe in goal we could have been in trouble, he was really big n brave today commanding his box and sharp off his line to stop anything else getting passed him, half time 1-2.

I told the lads to keep pressing and make sure they were first to the ball and boy did they do that, Sonny giving there defence nightmares from the kick off he broke through them all and calmly slotted it in to make it even, 2-2. Some lovely play then lead to Finn who scored the third,3-2 then Reggie got brought down in the box and took his penalty really well to make it 4-2, he then must of heard his dad would give him twenty notes for the hat trick and put it home comfortably. A massive effort in the second half to make us clear winners in the end! Full time Shotton 5 Pools 2.

MOTM could have gone to a few today but for Joe’s bravery and quick thinking it went to him class mate keep it up.

Special thanks to our fabulous sponsors too who without there generosity the lads would not look as good as they do, massive thanks again for the support.

Match report 19/11/22
Shotton colts V Hetton juniors Lazio

We started the game very strong and Hetton struggled to get out of their own half it took some time to get the first goal from a lot of chances there keeper havimg a blinder, then stepped up sonny one on one with their keeper after a tremendous kick from Joe in goal and slotted it home very cool. We kept the pressure on and shortly after Finn went on to score a very well worked goal making us 2-0 and it stayed like that till half time.

We told the boys at half time to just think it was 0-0 and was still all to play for and not did they do that every single one of them played with pride today and some lovely ball work from all of them, shortly after the break up stepped up Sonny again after a lovely bit of ply between him and Reggie, Charlie got the ball out wide from Reggie again and turned their defender inside out and put it through his legs (obviously been watching his dad on…… not) and was unlucky not to score, but the little fella kept going and finally got his firat goal of the season deep in the second half after Hetton struggled to clear their lines and that wrapped the game up!

Final score Shotton 4 - 0 Hetton.

MOTM was the hardest to pick yet but went to Finn for his non stop running, well done mate.

First clean sheet of the season for Joe too again we’ll done mate played a huge part today.

Fantastic stuff this morning that we will take to next week ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Match report 15/10/22 Shotton colts V Velocity wolves

Match started off very slow with both teams a little nervous on the ball, the first goal came around half way through the first half with a lovely ball from Lewis in defence a quick touch and turn from Sonny who played Finn through to slot it home, Velocity pushed us hard but could not get the goal before half time. Half time 1-0 Shotton.

We went out after half time and I may aswell have told them not to do anything as all we did was the opposite, looked very nervous and scared for some reason, after a corner that took a horrible bounce we managed to put it in our own net 1-1. The game was very scrappy from then till the end with not a lot more to say on the matter, gutted to see us not come away with 3 points as they did not have one shot on goal and we made them look very good and ourselves look poor.

Final result 1-1

A lot of work to do at training on Friday and a full house would be appreciated, we go again next week ⚽️⚽️⚽️

01/10/2022

Match report 01/10/22

Game started of as we thought very fast and they wanted to press but our lads held there own and created a lot of chances, unfortunately they had there 1 and only shot of the half and took a very lucky deflection off Ben and went in 1-0, we pushed and pushed until half time but just couldn’t get the goal, 1-0 half time.

Second half I asked the lads just to go out and give it there all as I knew they would and shortly after we scored with a very well worked goal from the forwards and Cole slotted it home to make it 1-1. We then got going again got to give it to Joe some outstanding saves to keep us in the game on a few occasions, and some solid defending then with 3 minutes Cole and Sonny playing some lovely football together and Cole got through and that ball was only going one place and that was the back of the net 1-2.

To say im proud is an understatement each and every one of them lads played with there hearts on there sleeve today great pwrfoemance and the win we deserved, well done boys and keep it up!

Final result Chester le street 1 - 2 Shotton

MOTM - Reggie worked his socks off in the middle today class.

Missing Finn today but need you back 100% mate back as strong next week

24/09/2022

Well today was another game that was spoilt by a referee! We started off really slow and took us around 10 minutes to get going, by this time we were 2-0 down, all forwards played some really good stuff and got us that well deserved goal just before half time 2-1.

I asked the lads to go back out and show the same character that we finished on in the first half and they did it, after a sloppy third from them we set Cole away down the wing and the ball was only going one place and that was the net! We grafted hard all second half and was only one team in it, we made a silly mistakes with seconds to go and the rest is history. Can’t fault the lads this week much more bite and determination from last week and that’s all I ask week in week out, game finished Shotton 2-4 Beamish. Think the league need to look at the quality or referees as todays was terrible!

Goals - X2 Cole
MOTM - Finn back to himself today and showed it!

We go again next week ⚽️⚽️⚽️

17/09/2022

Well not the start we asked for today, just couldn’t get started at all controlled the game for the first 10 minutes but never looked to go any further after that! A lot to work on at training on Friday to prepare for next week. Special thanks to our goalkeeper Joe today without him it could have been a lot more well deserved MOTM performance.

Thanks to the official who allowed the minutes silence before the game more than just a game in my eyes!

Shotton 7 - Easington 0

The score line says it all really, we started off slow and Easington looked the better team for the first 10 minutes but 2 quick goals from Cole calmed the nerves, from there we never really looked threatened and finished the game stronger than ever. Goals were Sonny X3, Cole X2 & X2 Lucas. MOTM went to Lewis great to see him back from his latest string of injuries.
