It’s not about what you hear.
It’s about what you listen to.
- TJ Tyus
Hearing is understanding a sound was made.
Listening is giving the sound your attention.
Sports Momma, are you the loudest voice in your child’s ear?
Does your child hear you or do they listen to you?
There are a ton of people trying to get into an athlete’s ear.
Does your child know how to listen for your voice, as well listen to your voice?
Who’s the loudest voice in your child’s ear? Is it you?
Does your child know how to listen for your voice in the crowd?
How does your child make decisions?
Do they have a framework or are they choosing based on uniforms and stadiums?
There is one more Intro to College Sports class this month, folks.
This class is for middle & high school families who are thinking about playing a sport in college.
We’ll cover need-to know terms & give you 3 questions you should ask every college coach to save yourself money.

Last week, I told you followers aren't your fans.
If you're like me, you've probably asked yourself: "How do I figure out the difference between fans and followers?"
Which leads me to this week's NIL Word of Wisdom:
Find out who really supports you.
In my world, Support = Taking some type of action
Here's a really simple way to find out who supports you: Ask them to do something.
It's just that simple.
Fun fact: In marketing, when you ask someone to do something, they call it a "call to action".
A call to action doesn't have to be deep.
It could be asking someone to like or share something, or asking them to leave a comment or asking people to make a purchase.
That's it. Easy peasy.
If you found value in this email, please, share it with a friend.
Tomorrow is the last free NIL class for the month. To sign up, click here -> https://calendly.com/sportsmomu/nil-from-a-sports-mom-s-perspective-college-edition
Save the date! I have 2 conferences coming up that may interest you:
The Certified Sports Parent Symposium - 12/27 - 28, 2022
The You Can Succeed NIL Conference - 2/24 - 26, 2023
Go ask your followers to do something - like I just did. lol
Until next week!
Hey y'all!
It's time for another NIL Wisdom Wednesday. Today's tip:
Don't assume all your followers are your fans.
Follower: an adherent or devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity.
Fanatic (fan): a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, especially for an extreme religious or political cause
There is a difference between devotion and single-minded zeal. In the worlds of social media and sports, here is a great way to understand the difference:
Fans spend MONEY.
Followers interact on social media and talk.
A common misconception in the worlds of social media & sports is followers = fans.
When businesses partner with popular athletes, they are banking on the fact that 9 times out of 10 every athlete has some fans sprinkled in with their followers.
Here are a couple of questions every sports family should be thinking about:
Are the people followers on your social media merely "followers" or are they "fanatics"?
Have you given them something or someone to be single-minded about?
Are you building your school's brand, your brand or both?
Feel free to reach out to me if you need help with any of these questions
Don't forget there is another free NIL class tomorrow. To register, click here -> https://calendly.com/sportsmomu/nil-from-a-sports-mom-s-perspective-college-edition
Please, share this with a sports family you know.
See you in class!
Hey y'all,
It's time f0r our weekly NIL tip. This week, I strongly encourage you to:
1) Teach your child how to respectfully say NO! 100% of the time.
Here's why this is important:
More and more agents are approaching high school kids because they want to "sign" them before they get to college.
More and more contract agents are masquerading as marketing agents as they attempt hook college kids before they go pro.
Fun fact: I've heard agents say they are going to 7-on-7 tournaments and showcases to meet and sign high school athletes OR they hire young college students to go to these events with contracts.
Does your 15-year old know how to say "NO!" to an agent who comes up to them at a 7-on-7 or at a showcase?
Does your 20-year old know how to say "NO!" to a 50-year old business owner who is used to getting their way in a business deal?
Here's what I recommend to my clients:
Have a family discussion.
Decide 2-4 people who will be the "Decision Making Committee" or 1 person who is the "Designated Decision Maker."
Step up an email account for business inquiries
Whenever someone wants to talk "business" with your child/your family teach them to say:
"I make decisions with a team. Please, email me at ____ . My team and I will review your request and get back to you within 24-72 hours."
Viola - a respectful NO!
*Disclaimer: Feel free to come up with your own script. Also, the "team" is the parents + trusted family advisors.
Don't forget, we have another free NIL class tomorrow (10/13) @ 8pm CST/ 9pm EST.

See ya next week!
Today is Wisdom Wednesday!
Here’s this week’s NIL tip:
Take steps to project your family name (yours & your child’s)
Here’s an example of why this is important:
BJ Ojulari plays at LSU. He’s been on Twitter since 2017 BUT for some reason he didn’t elect to use his real name.
In 2020, this Stefan person created a Twitter account using BJ’s real name.
Stefan makes controversial statements.
Whenever that happens, the real BJ Ojulari has to explain its not him.
When businesses and NFL teams research players, one of the first places they look is the player’s SOCIAL MEDIA.
Because BJ & his family didn’t secure his proper name, they will continue to have to explain the accounts of the other account.
If you wanna know how to avoid this situation and protect your family name, drop your email in the comments & I’ll add you to my weekly NIL Wisdom Wednesday tip.
I teach a free NIL class on Thursdays @ 8pm CST, we talk about this things.

Today, on the B.O.S.S Network Podcast, we are talking about athlete mental health.
I watched the FSU-LSU game. The ending was disappointing for LSU fans.
They made threats and other awful social media comments to the LSU players after the game.
Some players completely deleted their social media accounts.
Others removed all LSU references from their social media.
What happens when fans go too far with their social media comments?
How can athletes & sports families protect their mental health in a social media world?
We’ll be talking about it tonight at 6 PM CST / 7 PM EST.

I remember them Fire Norvell Spaces when Travis flipped to JSU?? Y’all like him again? Y’all gonna keep him??
It’s the start of the season - volleyball, football, girl’s soccer - and for some athletes, the season is over.
What do you do when your young athlete’s season is over before it even starts?

Internship alert!
Tomorrow on the B.O.S.S. Network Podcast, we’re talking expectations.
Ever see athletes comparing themselves to other athletes?
Wondering why so-and-so has “offers” & they don’t?
Ever see an athlete mentally take themselves out of a game?
Ever see parents yelling things from the sidelines that make their kids completely shut down?
Join us tomorrow. We’re gonna talk about all that and more!

Listennnn, do it with the confidence of my grandson, Noah, when he sees any type of water.
He runs to jump in the water immediately - and can’t swim a lick.
Drowning is not even in his thought process.
He just know he’s gonna survive.
Do it with the confidence of a 5-year old in a Spider Man custom.
They believe they have alllll the super powers.
Be confident!!
When I started my community, I made a commitment to seek out people who would come along side us and help us along the journey of raising athletes who are chasing dreams.
Sports families get ripped off in a lot of areas but high school and college families are getting shafted in 2 areas right now: Film & Graphic design.
Everyone wants to make your logo or your highlight film.
I’ve seen someone try to charge one of my moms $4997.99 for 2 highlight films.
Someone in this community saved her over $4000 by helping her.
Today, I’m announcing the first 2 members of the Sports Mom University Preferred Partner Network.
Aaron Archie & Shadeed Q Drakeford
Aaron is a beast in the graphic design field. Check his work (IG)
In this new world of NIL, sports families need more than logos. They need a complete digital strategy that includes cartoons and animation. Aaron has got that and more.
I know parents want to know how to make their own film without breaking the bank. Shadeed & Ready to Stream are going to help us with that.
They are going to teach us how to make our own film using the phones we have in our hands and show us what equipment to purchase when we’re ready to step our game up.
Shadeed created a whole class - just for us.
Knowledgeable
Professional
Efficient
High Quality
Those are the things our Preferred Partners will be known for.
Welcome to the family, gentlemen!
Lots of new & exciting things are happening in the world of high school & college sports.
Did you know high school students in 14 states - and counting - can make money of their name, image & likeness?
Do you know their is a difference between a contract agent & a marketing agent?
Do you know what a collective is?
Come find out the answer to these questions and more at my free NIL class.

Tonight on the B.O.S.S. Networks Podcast, we are covering a topic some people may say is controversial.
We’re going to be talking about Black athletes in predominantly whyte spaces and the HBCU experience.
More and more athletes are switching to private schools in high school.
In a lot of instances, those private schools are predominantly white.
All of the FBS schools kids want to play for our predominantly white institutions.
So tonight I have a panel of athletes, coaches and parents who have lived this experience and we will be sharing our stories.
If you are a sports family, join us!
If you’re an athlete who has attended an HBCU or a predominantly white institution, please, chime in with your comments.
