Measles is one of those diseases we don’t tend to worry about anymore because vaccination has worked so well - but it hasn’t gone away. Cases are on the rise again and it is highly infectious.

Measles is more than just a rash, and vaccination gives the best protection against our little ones becoming unwell. Since the measles vaccine was introduced in the 1960s over 20 million cases have been avoided, saving over 4,500 lives - which shows how safe and effective it is.

With summer holidays now here and families expected to travel, it is vital that parents and guardians check their child’s Red Book to make sure they are up to date with their vaccinations and contact their GP practice to catch up on any missed doses of the MMR vaccination.

Check your child’s Red Book, and contact your GP to check your own vaccination record.

Walking the Ramblers through a difficult flu season 16/01/2023

There’s nothing like starting the new year with a big health kick, embracing the outdoors, and going on a big walk. Well, I know that’s true for members of The Ramblers association. But we must stay vigilant and remind ourselves that influenza remains at an alarming level and could continue to rise throughout winter.

I recently spoke with The Ramblers about how we can best protect ourselves, to allow us to continue doing the things we love in 2023. It’s essential that we follow the official guidance on getting the recommended protection, for ourselves and our loved ones. You can find the full article here: https://bit.ly/3COXWnW

Wanting to kick out unwanted health habits this New Year? I am pleased to be supporting the new health improvement tool Ready to Change which I’ve been working on with the Public Health team at Norfolk County Council in collaboration with the University of East Anglia.

It’s a great little 3 step web tool that can really help you shift your mindset when it comes to improving your health. If you’re fed up with constant yo yo dieting, or maybe need a bit more encouragement to stop that mid week drinking or even quit smoking this is definitely for you.

I’d encourage you to think of the end goal and how much better you’ll feel when you get there - I recognise making changes can be tough but it will be worth it.
Just take the quiz, find out about the health benefits and then set your own targets, it’s simple and it’s free. Let me know how you get on!

The news of our Queen’s passing is devastating and the end of an era but we should take heart in remembering her incredible achievements, her place in history, her dignity, integrity, strength, stoicism, resilience, wisdom, experience, fairness, and love for everybody at home and throughout the Commonwealth and the world. She will be sorely missed but her work ethic, endurance, good humour, love of her people and the majestic example she set us is something we would all do well to emulate.
