With the formula shortage it’s important we share some education around feeding babies. Parents want the best for their babies and some think that adding a little water to breastmilk or extra water to formula will get their baby a little more volume of food. But in fact, it has an opposite effect! Diluting breastmilk or formula with water is very dangerous for baby. Here’s why:
It throws off their delicate and important electrolyte balance.
It interferes with nutrient absorption.
It causes water to enter the blood stream watering down the blood.
This can cause brain swelling, seizures and potentially death.
Water intoxication is a very serious issue. Please share so we spread the word. There are too many well-meaning families and care givers who might unknowingly put their child’s health at risk. Awareness is key!
