Hello Heros and Heroines!

I've been working on a passion project with you in mind.

This webinar is a great opportunity for anyone looking to understand themselves better, make the most of their greatest strengths and live a life of fulfilment and satisfaction.

We learn a trade/ profession but we never learn "Life" until unpleasant circumstances force us to. Or worse yet, we find ourselves trapped in cycles we don't know how to get out of. By the time we hit psychological maturity at 25 most of us already have too much going on to focus on building self awareness.

The mental health model focuses more on mental illness than mental wellness. And while there's a place for that. It's time to change the narrative and take a proactive approach to our wellbeing.

You deserve better than just getting by.

The bottom line is: Mental wellbeing is the truest marker for the quality of your life. And mental wellness is about Self Mastery.

On this year long journey, you will learn:

😲 Really interesting facts about how your mind works and how to master it as a tool

πŸ€” How and why the mind malfunctions and misconceptions about happiness and wellbeing

🀩 The successful practice of what psychological science describes as "the good life"

This whole program is designed such that you can join a single webinar and still get great value. Or you can also participate in the entire process from start to finish and really make 2023 (and part of 2024) your year of Self Mastery.

I'll put out snapshots of what to look forward to every start of the month so you can get ready and invite your friends to take the journey too.

I wanted to do this because my own process of self awareness and mastery has completely changed my life for the better. In my practice, as a therapist, I see how much people gain from self mastery. I wanted to create a thorough, truly insightful experience that's accessible (affordable) and sustainable (because it's affordable you can keep at it long enough to experience the benefits)

And yes, it's a year long because life's a marathon, not a race.

I can't wait to share this journey with you! πŸ€—

It's World Mental Health Day!

How can you gauge your mental wellness? Here's a simple continuum to help you assess yourself.

Mental health exists on a continuum that fluctuates.

Something amazing this way comes...

πŸ™πŸΌBEHIND THE SCENES - THE MANIC MONOLOGUES πŸ™πŸΌ

There is a beautiful passage in the Bhagvad Gita that describes the mind:
β€œThe mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O KαΉ›αΉ£αΉ‡a, and to subdue it, I think, is more difficult than controlling the wind.”
The mind always fascinates me. How each mind responds and reacts to different situations and what better for an actor to get into the mind of someone and see it from a third persons view. It's almost like you are a consultant for that uncontrolled mind you are witnessing. The metaphor of going with an open mind to open minds! It's an experience I will always cherish!

Have you ever just been living, minding your own business, being a good human and then life just comes along, picks you up and shakes you about and then puts you back down for no apparent reason?

πŸ₯Ί

Yeah, me too.

It's okay to get bothered and a little emotional, even a lot emotional, and to mope and feel unfortunate

😭

AND then ... We're using "And" here to validate that all your thrashing about is completely justified.

And then, do the one thing that makes all the difference: face your front.

Meet life squarely as an equal and see what quality facing this inconvenience requires of you. That quality is life's gift to you.

I know, πŸ™„ What an odd way to gift someone, but it is. It's life's way of giving you something you might never have bothered to cultivate while you were comfortably living, minding your own business and being a good human.

"You're welcome", Life says "you're welcome"

We're so honored and super stoked to be the mental health partners on this ground breaking project..

Art in all its forms has always held a special place for us, here at Prometheus because it's through art that we are reflected back at ourselves and this reflection is how we come to know ourselves.

"You know how vampires have no reflections in the mirror?" Junior Diaz, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author asked. "If you want to make a human being a monster, deny them, at the cultural level, any reflection of themselves."

Here's to seeing and embracing ourselves, fully

Are you just tired or could you be experiencing the effects of anxiety?

Anxiety puts your body in threat mode, so you're ready to fight or run away from something dangerous. That high alert, high energy state is very difficult to maintain.

🧑 Your heart is rate is up to pump oxygenated blood to your muscles

πŸ‘€ Your senses are highly sensitive to alert you to danger

πŸ” Your digestive system slows down, to focus blood to your muscles. That's why it's hard to eat and your stomach may experience discomfort if you do eat

All this and the threat is a report due by end of day!

No wonder you're tired!

So check in with yourself today. Are you tired or is there something causing you anxiety today?

Hello Heros and Heroines and Hello July.

Are you all keeping warm?

This last month was a busy and exciting one for us here at Prometheus. Our team grew (yay!) We had our first ever physical event (it was so nice to meet you all) and then 2 of us promptly caught Covid 😐 not cool.

So we've been bonding and recovering and now we're feeling a little better.

One of the insights we got from the event is that lot of people feel they may be struggling with anxiety and that's what we'll be talking about all through July and August.

We're planning some freebies as well so be on the lookout. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Here's to learning to ride the wave of life with poise! πŸ™πŸΎ

Hope you're all having a lovely day

Warmly,
Olive.

I'm a mental health advocate. I work as a therapist and volunteer as a committee member for the Kilimani Mental Health Initiative (KMHI), a project under Kilimani Project Foundation. I'm a mother of 2 and greatly believe in creating a balance between one's work and personal life. I'm particularly interested in wellbeing in the workplace and outside of it.

I love what I do and have worked with people from different walks of life. It is my hope that we can normalize discussions about mental health, seeking information, help and treatment.

Hi there, my name is Marie Odhiambo! I’m a recent Psychology and Sociology graduate from the University of Toronto, and I’m hoping to learn and grow more in the field of psychology. Helping people has always been a big part of who I am, and finding a passion for psychology has given me a clear direction to follow where I can do that! I’m beyond excited to be a part of Prometheus because I fully believe in our mission of prioritizing holistic wellness and wellbeing. I’m looking forward to watching Prometheus blossom into what I know it can be. I strongly believe in the power of therapy, but more than anything I believe in the power of the individual. If I can help even one person find and use that power within themselves through psychology, then that’s a job well done 🀍

Join the challenge!

This we're going to share how we make our happy hormones and keep our mental health in top shape!

Our brains produce hormones that help regulate our moods, manage our sleep patterns and impact our focus our productivity and focus. Serotonin is one of them.

Serotonin boosts your mood, makes sure you get a good night's rest and keeps depression at bay. All it takes is regularly spending time outdoors, in the sun, surrounded by trees while moving your body. Basically describes a hike β›°οΈπŸšΆπŸΏβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆπŸΏβ€β™‚οΈ
Or dancing in the forest.... Ama kulima πŸ˜„ Do you, we don't judge 😊

As we wrap up here's a novel idea: STRESS IS GOOD.

Stress is actually good for you. It's all about how much stress. Being challenged stimulates our creativity and boosts our productivity.

At optimum levels of stress we're in flow. Below that we experience "Rustout" which feels lethargy, listlessness and chronic fatigue.

And ofcourse above optimum levels of stress we experience "Burnout" which also feels like chronic fatigue and lethargy...

So you might be thinking you're burnout because you have too much on your plate, perhaps your work isn't challenging you enough. You might be rusting out...

πŸ€”Food for thought!

If you're not sure what you're dealing with, consider having a therapist help you figure things out and together, you can chart a path to wellness, productivity and engagement.

Enjoy the long weekend for those who will have the time of and those who won't. As we celebrate the life of our former president and all the things he made possible on his time.

See you all in the new month!

Is stress at the root of your relationship difficulties?

Are you overly identified with your job?

When your boundaries between work and life are blurry and your identity is too wrapped up in your job role, title or activity you might find that

⏱️ work eats up your time and identity leaving less space for hobbies and interests

πŸ€” You think about work whenever you're not there

πŸ—£οΈ You tend to bring up your job within minutes of talking to someone

πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ You find it hard to connect with people who aren't part of your working life.

Poor work boundaries means someone struggles taking time off which can lead to exhaustion and burnout

Work is a great thing. And loving your job is truly gratifying but it's important to remember that leisure time is not trivial. If you recognize yourself in the signs above then it's time to set some boundaries with yourself regarding work.

You are more important than what you do. You are a whole human being and your well-being is essential

Hope you got a chance to read the new blog post on Imposter Syndrome for some tips on how to manage better at work.

Sometimes we convince ourselves that imposter Syndrome has it's good points

πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ "At least I won't get arrogant"

πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ "Well, this negative talk has gotten me this far so it must be working"

The reality is there are no positives to imposter Syndrome. Instead of pushing us to do better it actually holds us back and keeps us paralyzed by fear and uncertainty.

It makes us feel anxious, it prevents us from internalizing our success, it us to over work so that we ultimately experience stress and burnout and it damages our be self esteem 😟

Can you relate to this? Let me know in the comments below

If you haven't read the blog yet I'll put up the link in stories again.

If you have, let me know which of the 5tips really resonated with you
