Around 1000 Vikings, lead by Leif Erikson, found an area of land that is now Quebec, Canada. They kept their discovery from the rest of Europe. They made a settlement there, although it didn't last long. There were some harsh winters, so they went back to Norway. About 500 years later Christopher Columbus discovered America.

The Vikings were the first Europeans to land in the New World.

During the Revolutionary War, George Washington employed James Armistead to be a spy. He spied on the British. The British thought he was just a slave, so they asked him to spy on the Americans. When he went to report to Washington he told him what the British told him to do. Washington told him to pretend to spy for them. The British gave him information; he told Washington all the information the British told him. So he spied on the British for Washington. The British thought he was spying for them on Washington, but he was helping America. His story is amazing and confusing. It is definitely a story not told enough.

America's forgotten war

In the early years of America, President Washington and Adams paid the pirates a fee so they would not attack American ships in the Mediterranean Sea, but President Jefferson had enough. He did not pay the fee. Tripoli, the country funding the pirates, declared war.
Neither the U.S. or Tripoli were ready for war. The U.S. quickly got prepared and founded the Marine Corps. We beat Tripoli in the war.

That war proved to other countries that we were able to defend its' people. It is the forgotten American war.

People have been trying to make Socialism work for centuries.

All the way back in 1609 Jamestown, the first British settlement tried Socialism. There was one large farm and they all split the food that was produced.The people realized that no matter how hard they worked they would receive food from the government. The result- hardly anyone worked.
The following winter there was no food, and more than half of Jamestown died of hunger.

That goes to show how Socialism, no matter where it is practiced, will always lead to the people suffering.

There has not been any Socialist country to succeed!!!
