SPC BS Pharmacy Freshmen Webinar Series
This page is created for the promotion of the Freshmen Webinar Series of the SPC BS Pharmacy Freshmen 2021 students.
We are ecstatic to announce that the Freshmen Webinar Series 2021 has officially ended! It has been a great run. All the 1st year Pharmacy students, sections 1A all throughout 1G, presented many intriguing lessons about the roles of everyday Pharmacists as they navigate today's world of face masks and social distancing. The last group, BS-Pharmacy section 1G, ended the series with their Pac-Man themed webinar entitled, PharmaSILAYAN: A Look into the Role of Immunizing Pharmacists.
The webinar started at 4:30 PM with admission of participants as the hosts showcased their short films. It was followed by an interview with three early birds and as a reward for their participation, they were given a token.
PharmaSILAYAN webinar officially started at 4:55 PM with an opening prayer by SPC chorale, national anthem, then SPC hymn. Blessing us with his presence, Mr. Elton John Alpere, RPh welcomed the participants with a brief introduction of the theme, “What if, in the game, there was something that kills the ghosts that chase Pacman? In real life, the ghosts are the diseases and that something that can kill the ghosts is vaccination. What if now that aside from dispensing and advising the patients, pharmacists can also give vaccines?” He then followed the statement with an introduction to the Guest Speaker, Ms. Danielle Matuguinas, RPh.
At 5:03 PM, the Guest Speaker, Ms. Danielle Matuguinas, RPh, and immunizing pharmacist, started her talk on the Roles of Immunizing Pharmacists to the Society. She elaborated that “The more people who have been vaccinated, the more people we can protect. We are pharmacists and we are new to this program. There should be a quality of pharmacist to this program during the immunization.”
Undeniably, 30 minutes of the talk was not enough. To break the gap, Ms. Danielle was asked two questions which she answered perfectly and with confidence. The Open Forum was followed by the photo opportunity with the Guest Speaker.
In order to formally end the program, Mr. Pascal John Gantala, BSPHARM-1G’s Class Treasurer, gave his closing remarks highlighting what he learned from the Guest Speaker, "Vaccinating pharmacists can help us win the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases as the numbers keep increasing." It was then followed by the closing ceremonies: Closing prayer courtesy of BSPHARM-1G, SPC hymn, and Ekstraordinaryo.
To break the ice and as a token of appreciation to the participants, a mini raffle was conducted needing siix raffle winners. But due to Ms. Danielle's generosity, three more winners expressed their gratitude.
In conclusion, the webinar would not be possible without the guidance of several faculty members and thus, we thank the following: Head of the Pharmacy Department, Dean Fatima May Tesoro, RPh, MSPharm; Supervising teachers, Mr. Jeritz George Orbigo, RPh, Ms. Danielle Matuguinas, RPh, and Doctor Erwin Faller, RPh, MSPharm, PhD. A special thanks to Mr. Elton John Alpere, RPh as well for his captivating introduction to tonight's webinar.
Next, we would like to give out a big thank you to our very own guest speaker, Ms. Danielle Matuguinas, RPh for contributing to the success of the webinar. And to more than a hundred participants who made time from their busy schedule to attend the webinar.
Finally, we give praise and thanks to the Lord for a successful webinar.
From BSPHARM-1G, we thank you all. God bless.

Statement: “Vaccines are formulated by the health experts together with our clinical pharmacists, to protect people and to slowly help our country stand from being dragged down by the virus itself. However, people spread fake news which leads to misconceptions. Hence, us who are aware of the truth should spread the truth, and the truth only so that we could make a change with helping hands and pull up those who fell. [Moreover,] vaccines should not be something we should be afraid of, instead we should look at it as a key to open closed doors and have a fresh start. With greater courage, we conquer strength with knowledge.”

Let us take a moment to look back and reflect on this eye-opening statement by 𝓜𝓼. 𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓲𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓮 𝓡𝓸𝓼𝓮 𝓐𝓵𝓸 to further enlighten us on the Management of Drug Shortage and Treatment Protocol Development.
"The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 prompted testing of many newly developed or existing repurposed therapies as treatments for COVID-19. Expecting drug manufacturers to increase the supply of all candidate therapies or health care providers to stockpile inventory before drugs are proven effective would be unreasonable. Thus, when a new drug is shown to be effective, there will likely be at least a temporary shortage of supply unless it is already widely available."

Starting at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, the BS Pharmacy 1E held their webinar via zoom, entitled “The Chronicles of Hospital Pharmacy Beyond Filling Prescriptions.” hosted by King Melchor Gador and Ahl Shane Villos.
They had their ice breaker before the proper event started facilitated by their game masters Jeanna Nicole Sabino and Russel Gantuangco.
After their fun and exciting games, the event started with the opening prayer, singing of the national anthem, and pharmacy hymn.
Pharmacy 1E President, Ms. Josella Dyniel Paye Angeles began the program with her opening remarks.
“Let us work together to develop courageous future pharmacists. As Aslan emphasizes “If you doubt your worth. Don’t run from who you are.” she stated.

“The challenges of wearing PPE, going to Covid area, seeing patients who aren’t breathing well and having medications run out of stock during this pandemic. We, pharmacists, consider alternatives to help alleviate symptoms while waiting for medication to arrive.” she said
Pharmacy Department Dean, Fatima May R. Tesoro, RPh, MSPharm, expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Catherine for accepting and having us as our guest speaker for this webinar.
Before proceeding to the next part, they have their open forum with Ms. Catherine where they ask several questions about the works of hospital pharmacy.
Professor Mary Angelica Litob, RPh, gave her faculty speech.
“I want to acknowledge the organizers this afternoon, for our 1st years starting your endeavors like this event, which is knowledge importing, is something that you will surely be thankful for when you reach your higher years or when you become pharmacists someday.” she said
After Prof. Angelica Litob shared her faculty speech, the BSPharm 1E gave their Certificate of Appreciation to Ms. Catherine for her invaluable contribution as a guest speaker in the event.
Pharmacy 1E Vice President Ms. Yonice Marie Andrea Salinas then had her turn and closed the event.

If pain or discomfort persists or worsens, it’s okay to take more than the prescribed dose.
FALSE! This is a BIG NO NO, kids.
WHY? Failure to follow the suggested or prescribed dose of an OTC or prescription medicine might result in hazardous side effects such as accidental overdose or liver damage. Please be cautious when taking your medicine and just take the recommended dosage. Pharmacists should are urged to provide information regarding the dangers of taking more medicine than is suggested or prescribed. We do the best we can to guide you —ensuring that you are safe, well, and healthy.

Without a doubt, all the guardians who were aboard with 1D on this wonderful and informative sleigh ride left with smiles on their faces, not just because of the games they had played or the prizes they had won, but most especially because of the wisdom they had gained from our esteemed speaker and beloved community pharmacist, Mr. Jhon Raphael Jimenez, RPh. Truly, we are PHARMore than just "Tagabantay ng Botika'' because we are guardians who hold the responsibilities for safe and appropriate use of drugs in patients and advocates of a patient-oriented workplace. We were also graced with the words of our senior guardian, Dean Fatima May R. Tesoro, RPh, MSPharm, who never stopped believing in us and encouraging us to be the people we ought to be. Statement: “Today we talked and learned a lot about community pharmacists. Just how controversial this topic is, we are privileged enough to have access to accurate information. They are not just "tindera/tindero (a seller)”, as people call them. They are more than what people think about them.
Paul W. Abramowitz even said that "𝘗𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵, 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴" because pharmacists, as healthcare professionals, are always there to lead and serve the community. You may be discouraged to enter this field because of what you've heard from other people who aren’t knowledgeable enough about what pharmacy really is, but I hope that this webinar helped you in seeing the beauty of this field. Statement: “The community pharmacy has been in the country for years and is an established business. It is the traditional product- oriented service in the medical field. Pharmacists are the most accessible health facility in the community, even more than hospitals. Yet pharmacists are only seen as the people behind the drugstore counters, shopkeepers, counting pills, businessmen rather than healthcare practitioners. But we are members of the healthcare team and a provider of services, information, care and give you quality pharmaceutical service as prescribed. We increase the quality of life of patients and we aim for their satisfaction. Our practice is constantly evolving and advancing to further provide for the community.”

Statement: “The COVID-19 Pandemic has brought recognition to our medical frontliners, including volunteer pharmacists. On the other hand, community pharmacists play a significant role in primary care and giving out the right medicines that the people need to fight against this virus. Behind the famous stigma that Community Pharmacists are mere storekeepers lies the truth about their true worth and work in providing a trustworthy setting in which to decrease prescription mistakes and provide safe dispensing of drugs, all while lowering costs and enhancing treatment quality. This webinar will be an eye opener to everyone that each of us has a part to fulfill in putting the terrible stigma to an end, and therefore we must all work together to make the world a better place, not just for us, but also for our community pharmacists. What a healthy smile the beautiful faces of our participants in this one-of-a-kind event had! It is indeed overwhelming that all of us had acquired a greater perspective in the enormity of the Manufacturing Pharmacy. ❤
As the saying goes “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Having participated in today’s event discussion can empower us between not being ignorant and misinformed but to advocate and extend the courtesy of sharing it with others, in the manufacturing of drugs.
