‘भाभी तो आज भैया के साथ उज्जैन गई हैं,’ मैंने दरवाज़े के पीछे से ही कह दिया.
उसके चेहरे पर निराशा का भाव था. फिर मेरी सवालिया नज़रों को देख उसने सकपकाते हुए कहा,‘मैं राहुल हूं. माला दीदी मेरी मौसेरी बहन हैं. दीदी की शादी में मैं अपनी परीक्षा के कारण नहीं आ पाया था इसलिए मुझे आप नहीं पहचान पा रही हैं.’
वह बाहर बारिश की तेज़ बौछारों से भीगा कांप रहा था. बड़े संकोच से उसने पूछा,‘माला दीदी नहीं हैं तो क्या आप मुझे अंदर आने के लिए भी नहीं कहेंगी?’
मैंने दरवाज़ा खोलकर किनारे खिसकते हुए कहा,‘क्यों नहीं? आइए.’
अंदर आकर भी वह दरवाज़े पर ही ठिठक गया, क्योंकि उसके तर-ब-तर कपड़ों से लगातार पानी से सारा फ़र्श गीला हो गया था. उसने वहीं से कैफ़ियत देते हुए कहा,‘मैं एक मीटिंग में इंदौर आया था. माला दीदी से बहुत सालों से मिलना नहीं हुआ था, सोचा आज मिलता चलूं.’.......

बरसात की वह रात - by डॉ. अरुणा शास्त्री रात गहराती जा रही थी. मेरा मन घबरा रहा था. भैया-भाभी आज सुबह मुंह अंधेरे ही उज्जैन के लिए निकल गए .....

उस दिन उससे मेरी मुलाक़ात क़रीब तीन दशकों बाद हुई थी. पर लग नहीं रहा था जैसे इतना समय गुज़र गया हो. बस उसकी आँखों की चमक कुछ कम हो गई थी और गॉगल्स की जगह रीडिंग ग्लास ने ले ली थी. मैंने पूछा, “इतने सालों बाद?… कैसे इंडिया आना हुआ?’’

उसने मुस्कुराकर कहा, “…कहाँ जा सका…बस, यही गाँव के एक कॉलेज में प्रोफ़ेसर हूँ… अभिमन्यु से स्टूडेंट्स के लिए कुछ नोट्स चाहिए थे, इसीलिए उसने घर आने को कहा था.”

मैंने हँसते हुए कहा, “अच्छा…. तो तुम मुझसे मिलने नहीं आए थे? तुम इतना कैसे बदल गए आकाश?” वह भी सॉरी कहकर बस हँसता रहा. “तुम तो जेएनयू से ही लंदन के सपने देखते थे आकाश?….सीधे गाँव?…कैसे इस तरह तुम्हारे सपने आसमान से धरती पर उतर गए?”

मेरे लिए वास्तव यह एक प्रश्न ही था. जेएनयू से पढ़ाई के बाद एक प्रतिष्ठित प्राइवेट कॉलेज में लेक्चरर रहते हुए आकाश ने कितने ही विद्यार्थियों के यूपीएससी के सपनों को पूरा करने में अहम भूमिका निभाई थी. वही आकाश आज किसी गुमनाम से गाँव के कॉलेज में लेक्चरर है. आकाश ने बात को टालते हुए कहा, “चलो… आज नहीं बता पाऊंगा…. कुछ विद्यार्थियों की किताबें लेनी हैं. अभि ने मेरे लिए नोट्स दिए होंगे. हफ्ते भर बाद फिर आना है… तब बातें होंगी… तुम्हारे हाथ की स्ट्रॉन्ग कॉफी के साथ…”......
