Friends and yet to be friends alike. Say a prayer for us.

It has been one of the most challenging seasons for us - particularly on the health front. This sushi lunch may have been the last time we were not worried about health stuff. Also, there's 742 pieces of sushi in front of us and that makes me happy.

A few weeks ago, my mother missed a step, fell, went to ER, and hours later...was having total hip replacement surgery. Life changed real fast...and there went our travel plans.

Then, a week after that, Minhee's mom had a stroke and lost control in half of her body. She spent a week in ER/hospital. It's not easy trying to be present while you're thousands of miles away. Minhee may need to go back to Korea just a couple months after being there.

One of our children, now living in her own place, has had regular health challenges and she needed to go to Urgent Care this past week and unfortunately, Minhee and I couldn't help much because...

After staying almost miraculously COVID free over the last 2.5 years - including while traveling to Korea and the UK during January and February of 2020 (when we had no idea how serious it all was), I recently tested positive for COVID-19. At first, I felt fine and was thinking how "normal" I felt, and then...BAM. It hit me like a train and I was out for about 48 hours. Thankfully, I've been able to quarantine in our basement and I'm now ready to resume life...but one after the other, it has felt like so much to process - even amid so much going on in our nation and world. Also, I. stopped. reading. the. comments.

So, say a prayer for me and Minhee. For wisdom and discernment as we navigate decisions - including caring well for our mostly grown children and aging parents. And through it all, caring well for ourselves, too.

I'm preaching to myself but perhaps this is an encouraging word for someone else too:

There's nothing selfish about sabbath, rest, and self-care. We can't give what we don't have. Experience life and we'll be life-giving to others.

I share my praise reports because I want to encourage others to stay on top of their health.

Last week, I had appointments with my medical oncologist, endocrinologist, and urogynecologist.

The reason I have a medical oncologist is for surveillance and monitoring because I had breast cancer.

The reason I have an endocrinologist is because I had a hysterectomy. Hormonal changes after a hysterectomy can negatively impact your thyroid function. The other reason is because of the nonspecific nodules bilaterally, on my thyroids.

I have a urogynecologist because I had microscopic hematuria. Also, pr*****ed bladder is common after a hysterectomy, so monitoring is important.

I had the total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, 2 months after I had my bilateral mastectomy. I wanted a hysterectomy because the breast cancer was ER-positive and PR-positive. So, I had a laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy.

I’m so thankful to GOD, I don’t have any issues from the mastectomy or the hysterectomy and all of my recent labs and scans are GOOD.

We’re all different and we’ll all have different outcomes. I know anxiety and fear can consume us when we have health issues, but we gotta take good care of ourselves. Just because there are possible side effects associated with certain procedures, don’t let that stop you from doing what needs to be done, to save your life.

Pray and talk with your medical team to decide what is best for YOU. Get more than one opinion if you feel like you need to, ask questions if you don’t understand. Communication is very important!

PLEASE, schedule an appointment if you know something is not right with your body, PLEASE! Statistics is one thing, but the HOLY SPIRIT is a good thing!

This post is for somebody and I may never know who, but I do know GOD and what he will do!
