National Night Out is happening now at Lincoln Park
South End Neighborhood Association (SENA) wants to share the announcement of Sergeant Nathaniel “Nate” Pendelton retirement. Sgt. Pendelton has proudly served the City of Albany’s Police Department for more than two decades. Regardless of which station Sgt. Pendelton worked from, he always made himself readily available to the community to participate in events, community meetings in the South End, West Hill, and beyond. While Sgt. Pendelton consistently demonstrated genuine care and concern for the city of Albany and our community, it has always been evident that our youth have a special place in his heart.
Sgt. Pendelton humbly served in the Youth Empowerment Program founded by Retired Judge Helena Heath and former Police Chief Jim Tuffy. While working as part of the TRaC (To Reach and Connect) Unit, Sgt. Pendelton was able to exhibit his love for the community with an emphasis on the youth, by hosting or participating in programs such as National Save Our Sons Night, BEyoutiful Fashion Show and Bookbag Giveaway, and National Night Out. He was also actively involved in other departmental community engagement initiatives such as recruiting for the department, participating in Pastors on Patrol, T3C3 (Time to Talk Cops and Community Collaborating), NYPUM (National Youth Project Using Minibikes), and the District Attorney's Community Partnership Committee.
During his career, Sgt. Pendelton has always been a familiar face within the hallways and classrooms of many schools, head start programs, and family/human service organizations. Sgt. Pendelton established the CARE through COPS Program (Children Achieving Reading Excellence through Community Officers Promoting Success) with Brighter Choice Charter Schools. This program in collaboration with TRaC, has afforded more than 70 youth the opportunity to visit the National Museum of African American History in Washington, D.C. since 2017.
Sgt. Pendelton has always been an integral part of SENA, he actively participated in our meetings, kept us abreast of important information or events, supported us with National Night Out, and acted as an advocate. We appreciate everything Sgt. Pendelton has done for SENA, the South End, and the City of Albany. Sgt. Pendelton will always be valued for his hard work, commitment, and dedication to our community. SENA wishes Sgt. Pendelton a happy retirement and best wishes on the next chapter in his life.
